- Sanibel Causeway a great fishing spot for all kinds of fish. A lot of visitors and locals enjoy the days here on jet skis, wind surfing, BBQing and just out enjoying the day. Locals fish all over the causeway but closer to the bridge. There are three main bridges, one closest to Sanibel Island, one in the middle, and the highest bridge leaving the Fort Myers area. It is also where you pay a $6.00 toll as well. If you enjoy catching shark, Bonnethead are all over here as well as Black Tip. I usually catch Bonnethead off of live Shrimp, the larger ones and Sardines at times. Black Tip do not usually bite on Shrimp or at least I have not caught one using shrimp. It is Pin Heads, Mullet, or Sardines. Occasionally if I catch a whiting, I will use that as bait. If you want to enjoy the day being outdoors and fishing it is a great place to go.

That’s awesome. I’m heading to the causeway Saturday morning. What kind of line and hook do you use? Also, do you use weight? How far up the line/size is the weight, if you use? Sorry for all the questions, just really want to catch a shark for my kids to see. Thanks a lot
Bonnethead will eat shrimp, you can use live shrimp. For others, finger mullet or if you catch a small fish (whiting) then cut it up and use that for bait. With Bonnethead I use fluoro lead but for other sharks, I would use steel lead because the teeth can rip the line. Bonnetheads I have had no issue catching on a fluoro lead. My lead is 40lbs. For hooks 3/0-4/0, circle hooks should be fine. Weights are really dependent on the current. Stronger current than a heavier weight. Normally I would use 3-4oz but you could get away with 2oz if the water is still. Triangle weights or egg (round) weights and either Carolina rig, egg weight is loose or around a 2' lead from the weight. There may be other opinions but that is what we used. I cast as far as I can with my 8' and 10' poles. I used to go to a bait shop right before the causeway but I am not sure if it is there anymore after last year's hurricane. Bonnethead sharks are not big sharks. The ones he got are basically full grown. They do fight good for their size.
How did they taste?
@@stay_free They taste pretty good, at least I think so. It depends on how you prepare them. Once you catch them they let out this ammonia type of smell which can get into the meat. Once you filet them then soak them in milk, lemon, or lime juice for three hours. After that freeze, bbq, marinade, a little salt and pepper, or fry and it is good. Between sharks, so far, black tip is a little better than Bonnethead but both are good.

Is the causeway open?
Do not know. I believe so but we moved northward because that area is going to take a lot of work to get back to normal.
Where is this at by the causeway please and thank you. I'm taking my first fishing trip there in a few weeks.
There are three bridges going over to Sanibel. The spot, in the video, was right after the second bridge on the left. There will be a dirt entrance but you will notice a building/bathrooms there as well. Once you enter go immediately left and drive down and park. You will see the rocks. One thing to remember is that if you do not get there early then it will be hard to get a spot to fish and/or park. Either early in the morning or go around 3:30pm when people start to leave. I fish at Sanibel look up Blind Pass fishing videos. You have to pay for parking on the Weekends its really crowded. Especially the traffic. Another option is parking at the Sanibel boat ramp pay for parking 5$pr hour or 20$ for the day. Can walk to bowman Beach from there. Parking is free along the Causeway they have restrooms too.

This was a while ago so I do not remember everything about it. But, it is the process of learning. Sometimes you have to look at things from another lens. We all have our way of doing things, right or wrong, but when think we know everything that is the point we stop learning. You are correct but I am still learning but I will always be learning. You take the good and bad advice from everyone and determine what works best for you. Now what works best may not be right but it is what they choose to do. 😁 I appreciate you watching and if you see me doing something wrong please let me know.

Hey Buddy, nice videos. Nice catches. I have a tip for you. The better you get, and the better you know the best spots, the more important it is not to give away the *exact* spot. Let people figure it out on their own. Not too hard to identify, but more importantly teach people to learn features and areas on their own. If you give them the exact spot it's too easy to duplicate and promotes over fishing. I live nearby and fish the same spots as you, and year over year all the best spots have exponentially more fishing pressure. At some point we'll all need boats because it'll be shoulder to shoulder with fisherman and nothing left to catch. Your channel will grow more if you tell viewers what features/tides/conditions to look for rather than give them exact spots because it appeals to fisherman on the entire Gulf coast. Cheers!
Hi Alex, Thank you for the tips and recommendations, I will take it into consideration. For now, we will not talk about any more spots in Southeast Florida because we are now located in North East Florida. A fishing spots is just a fishing spot.. I might do well one time but the next it could be slow or I might get nothing. Fish move all the time and another spot might be better that day versus the other spot. I hope that makes sense. 🙂 Again, thank you and I understand your concerns.
@@BeyondFishingFamily Well, a good Snook spot is always a good Snook spot. A good shark spot is always a good shark spot. A good grouper spot is always a good grouper spot. They move seasonally and with the tides, and feeding habits change, but the only other thing that changes is fishing pressure. Snook love shallow beaches and grass flats. Sharks love moving water. Grouper love deep spots with rocks, under bridges, around reefs, etc. Same trends hold true for snapper, sheepshead, and most other regular catches. Mackerel and tarpon are on the move and follow bait. Most fish have their favorite spots and can always be found there... Until we pick them clean or destroy their habitat.
@@Dec1duousTree You are correct Alex! It seems the Snook do like the Blind Pass area. Where we are fishing right now there is everything but that does not mean we catch everything all the time. Last weekend it was Spanish Max, flounder, stingray, whiting, and a spade. I do watch the tides but it seems no matter what I get more hits in the morning or evening. That does not mean I do not catch anything in the afternoon, I do, but most of the time it is morning or evening. Some of the Apps with recommendations on when to fish, tides, etc are not that accurate. I have not caught a grouper yet, waiting, one of these days 🙂
Toss them back man. Don’t keep small baby sharks. Gi catch a good eating fishing…
Thanks for watching. I throw the really small ones back and the ones you legally cannot keep. If they are decent size and legal then I will keep it. Shark is good to eat, although, some better than others.
