. The part number I am referring to in the video is 8R3Z-19A434-A. I'm sure you can find it online anywhere if you just want to replace the whole thing.
I tested EVERYTHING else, and it came down to the one little "stopper switch" on the passenger side near the lift ram. The slim little tangs were touching the trigger when they shouldn't be (when top is being lowered.) I spread them off just a few mm with a screwdriver or pliers - Problem solved.
What was happening was when lowering the top, it would stop about every 3 seconds - but not a binding issue. Not the pump. Not the button. Not the relays. Because I tested all of those and they all checked out fine. So, the little "stopper switch" or whatever it is called was the only thing left. And sure enough, that was the issue. Also, make sure that trigger is aligned properly. You might have to experiment with it - or compare to someone else's Mustang GT or V6 Convertible.

Thank you so much for this, I was so frustrated this morning haven't drove my Mustang in a while to find out my top wouldn't come all the down. Had to drive it to work with the top down and it was a bit cool outside 😂. Fixed my top during lunch break, thanks again

I know this is an old video. But, it saved me $400.
My switch had broken and was hanging near where it was supposed to be mounted. There is a locator pin and part of the switch the screw threads into to hold the switch in place that broke off.
Because of your video I was able to find the original mounting locatio Super glue the part that the screw threads into that broke off and reinstall it.
Without the switch in the right location My top stopped three times on the way down.
    Thank you.

Thank you so much for this video! I have replaced my motor and gone through a lot of hassle for what ended up being a 2-minute fix. I really appreciate you!

Thank you Sir !!! I had the exact same issue after getting a new top put on my 2005. A little screwdriver and a light twist between the 2 silver contacts and it works perfectly again.
    You made my day !!!

This is one more thing on my list of convertible maintenance. I have an 06 and have maintained it well. Just refilled the hydraulic fluid and did this as well. Now the top closes all the way. Before it wasn't lining up with the latches making it near impossible to close. Also suggest replacing relays and the actual top switch if necessary. Now I'm ready for fall weather!

You can simply exchange another relay next to it to see if that is the fix. For most people the relay or the interior cabin switch is not the fix for this.

I have an 05 mustang, I’ve put hydraulic fluid in and it still wouldn’t work. I’m going to try this out and hopefully this is it if not I’ll check the convertible top relay’s but thanks, nice vid!!

Hi Dave, just bought a 2001 mustang gt convertible last months. top worked fine for a little bit. now it wont go up. I reviewed videos and found that filling up the motor with atf fluid would help. I did observe fluid spritzing in the crack between the inside and exterior of the rear drivers area where the top comes up. this could be a lift arm but isnt tubing that I may need to replace? how would i get answers to this? am delaying refilling my motor with atf because am afraid it will leak into the body. thx.

I wonder if this is related to my problem. The passenger side lags behind the driver side when opening or closing and the folding bracket needs help to fold/unfold. I’m taking it out of storage next week to diagnose the issue...it almost sounds like this could be causing the passenger side to fall behind...we will see!

Sounds like the hydraulic ram needs servicing or something is bent.

@@HorsepowerHouse20 I didn’t pull the back seat before I put it away for the winter but I didn’t see anything that would make me think it’s leaking. With assistance on the passenger side it goes up and down smoothly so maybe the piston is bad on that side. That’s what I’m hoping for.

If you have never serviced the hydraulic ram, I recommend it.

Did your hydraulic fluid start leaking out when you tried to put it back up? Mine did. The motor is running because I can hear it. The top just won’t go back up at all. And I can’t figure out how to do it manually. I’ve tried pulling it up with a friend and it didn’t work

I don't know how to thank you!!!! If you are in the NYC area let me know as I am taking you to dinner!!! I Have a 2006 GT in showroom condition and only put the top down in spring and raise it in fall. This year it didn't go up and I found your video, the best on the subject and I don't know what I did but with a screwdriver had it working faster then I could say video after seeing your video. The one thing lacking here is you don't say that the top interior trim piece was removed but I figured it out after looking at your video again and found out how easy it is to remove from someone else's video and even knew how not to break it as he did in his LOL You are the only person that mentions this problem and I bet most guys that went to the dealer and got charged $500 had the same problem and will never know. Again; THANK YOU!!!!
