  • I'm tackling my first DIY home project of the year and it's a big one - a built-in electric fireplace unit! I broke this project process into two videos. This video covers PHASE TWO of the project, including sourcing a stone veneer product from StoneSelex, preparing the frame for stone, installing the stone veneer, and creating a really textural, cozy, overgrouted mortar wash to wrap this all up! Join me as I learn some new skills, try some new tools, and tackle some big things in our little home.

      Wow! Good for you - that sounds like a huge undertaking! I'm not sure I'd tackle the stone again (what a project!), but I'm glad I tried it. A fireplace makes any space feel so cozy.

    Thank you! that is so helpful! I found the exact same picture for inspiration, I really like the look of it! You did an awesome job! Can you please share the measurements of the fireplace and shelves and what's the depth of it?

    I am currently in the planning process of building one, I am also in Ontario so I think I'll also use the same stone company. I love your vibe and your motivation girl 🥰

      Thank you! I was really pleased with the stone but I do recommend finding a show room near you to view the colours in person. I was going to use one, but once I saw them in person I took a completely different direction! Good luck on your build 😊

    Finally...someone with a video using faux stone...thank you! I'm just now beginning to fill in with mortar...well kinda. We ended up buying premixed/ready grout and i'm not sure if it would be better to switch to mortar before i get any further. I saw a video with someone that used the grout but her creases between the stones was minimal at best. I think my biggest question is was the mortar easy to remove from the very porous faux stones or did you have to do some real scrubbing? Thanks for your help!

    • @LittleReesorHouse
      @LittleReesorHouse  Před rokem

      I was going for an over-grouted look, so I didn't try to remove it from the stones very much. I think if you really work at it and keep refreshing your water, you could remove most of it from the stones. I'd love to hear how your fireplace turns out!

      Hi Katie! Thanks for the feedback. It was such a labour-intensive process that I had to forgo filming too. That being said, I did blog a tutorial if you’re interested in seeing the process in more detail: littlereesorhouse.com/blog/how-to-overgrouting-a-stone-fireplace

    How is your veneer stone fireplace holding up? Most give diff application instructions. I saw you used the tube on each piece, which seems more DIYer friendly. I'm just curious how it's holding up. Also, how tall is your wall? Just curious how much stone you used.

      It’s holding up great! The grab adhesive worked really well and was very DIY-friendly. I liked that I was able to stop and pick it up again at different times with ease. I didn’t have any issues with it 👌🏼 My fireplace was about 50 square feet worth of stone coverage.
