After triumphantly casting off the shackles of claustrophobic dissonance on 2020's lauded "Stare Into Death and Be Still", New Zealand unorthodox Death Metal legends ULCERATE up the ante even further with mind-bending 7th album "Cutting the Throat of God".
An acknowledgement that the band's most powerful and affecting material leans to the melodic side, this refined and hook-laden new record is a self-sufficient universe unto itself, a conflagration of inventively visceral Death/Black Metal where dizzying experimentation meets head-nodding abandon - obscenely twisted and addictive, heart-stopping in its depth of feeling.
After a quarter-century of playing music together, Hoggard/Saint Merat are cemented as one of the strongest guitar-percussion combinations in Extreme Metal, and their music has evolved organically into something completely its own. The most well-produced ULCERATE record to date, "Cutting the Throat of God" is filled with peerless rhythms, the band's smoothest transitions, most compelling phrasing, and truly staggering riffage. The exhilarating, liquescent flow is topped off by a destructively dynamic performance from vocalist/lyricist Paul Kelland.
"Cutting the Throat of God" explores a cohesive lyrical theme centered around the rupture of morality, the delicate boundary between depravity and extremity, and the irreversible descent into darkness. - Hudba
Im quitting my job just to listen to it right now
Solidarity!!
That’s fucking based
what a man
Isn't that a little excessive? lol
When the Selbst preview song was about to be unveiled, I cancelled ALL meetings I had for that day :D
At this point Ulcerate is undoubtedly one of the greatest extreme metal bands of all time.
If they had retired after Everything is Fire, you could still say the same thing.
@@Suraj-fi1jv Everything is Fire is disgustingly brilliant. It has something that none of their previous nor later albums have. I have never heard such disharmonious yet somehow melodic riffs in such an extreme form anywhere else. Everything is Fire is peek. That said, I am liking their later stuff a lot more than their stuff before that though.
@@4musics237 I think Everything Is Fire or Vermis is their best but I can understand why people prefer the newer material. You could pick any Ulcerate album as their best and I would be hard pressed to argue against it. Just an incredibly consistent band that continues to evolve their sound.
@@4musics237 Well said...the splash cymbals on "To see Death just once" are so awesome!!
@@4musics237 this is great but the black metal parts are out of place IMO
After the 10th listen of this album it has come to my understanding that this is one of the greatest musical works ever concieved.
hahahhaa
It really is. On my 4th listen. Last time I listened to an entire album more than 3 times was the Galvin miller wilhelm quartet czcams.com/video/dxwm_GyKgj0/video.htmlsi=ClWHX2iyISaPn_x5

Well hello album of the year
as i was saying...i've been 6 months into 2024, and although a lot of good releases, nothing has popped for me....this is it!
Thought album of the year is Akhlys new opus :)
@@colld3m thats like… your opinion man. But yeah both albums kick ass. Great artists in both bands
Forget album of the year; this may be album of this decade. Everyone of this band's album is simply breathtaking.
They're playing Ulcerate song «To Flow Through Ashen Hearts» on Seattle radio right now. I'm pleased for them.
Only if SIDABS counts in aswell.
Majestic, darker than the bleakest moments in life and masterfully executed. Ulcerate does it again, providing the perfect soundtrack for the crazy times we are living in.
As a Ukrainian, I can't disagree.

Can't praise this production job enough.
Yeah, top notch. But... and that's just me, I prefer the previous one, on SIDABS. Still clear, but also a bit more rough, not all 100% clear ot better too clean. But all in all, this is top shit job. I couldn't believe they would make another SUPERB album, really, after SIDABS I was sure that was it, nowhere else it go, they are the top. Yet they did it again!! :o
The drum mix is shit.

This is perfect. Im in love with this album. After years and years listen to deathmetal, gettig older, kids, wife etc... This album i am feeling like 18y old, like first love. Incredible ulcerate. Thank you ❤
more emotional than ever, still crushing , can't wait for you in Poland.
Ulcerate zawsze najlepiej wypadało w szybkim, technicznym graniu. Shrines... był ostatnią dobrą (bardzo dobrą) płytą. Teraz jest tu o wiele za dużo wolnego, monotonnego, cukierkowatego grania. Szkoda. Słucham ich od początku, od taśm demo. Szkoda, że poszli w takim kierunku. Wokale OK, ale reszta...
Damn. This band is new to me and I'm listening to this album for the first time (and it's the first one of theirs I've ever listened to)...I can't believe what I'm hearing! This is absolutely masterful and brutally beautiful!
You should listen to their previous album (Stare Into Death And Be Still), it's also a masterpiece.
You should get their whole discography...they are aw some
the whole discog is great. they go more dissonant on some albums, more melodic on others. my go to album is The Destroyers of All.
Welcome to the club.
don't forget to listen Colored Sands by Gorguts and Times of Grace by Neurosis
They just proved again that they are the leaders of extreme metal these days. This album slays. 🔥
The major issue is that the songs are still indistinguishable. Almost every track contains the same elements of their trademark sound, and is sometimes reminiscent of their past albums.
That’s not an ‘issue’ at all. By definition, the same group of people who make music together will have a trademark sound. That’s exactly what you want; it’s called having an identity. You can trace back every single great band in existence and they have recognisable sounds from their previous albums; what sort of laughable critique is this?
@@FELTSZyou raise a valid point but on the wrong album. This is full of discernible songs.
@@paul1720 Rotting Christ been around 35 years or so and have changed but there is always a yeah that's them. They never sold out or anythung. Trademark can always be improved.
I guess I'm an Ulcerate fan now. I mean you can't hear this and not recognise it's greatness.
Why are they still so underrepresented? This is some heavy shit indeed!
People are lazy they never search anything out anymore, waiting to be spoonfed via communistic streaming platforms & the melonhead needle drop.
Furthermore they're not underrepresented, do you wish for them to be on Deathwish?

This may be their best work, and I really wore the shit out of their last record.. loved it.
Best album so far this year. Raw, dark, atmospheric and heavy as hell.
Strong Black Metal influences on this one, amazing. Ulcerate truly is one of the best metal bands.

@@mohammadreza7265
Why are all metal bands afraid to go on tour to Iran, Sudan, Russia, Pakistan, Paraguay?
@@FELTSZ
We don't officially have a rock artist here(except one or two). So, obviously, anything related to rock and metal is strictly prohibited. Yes, we have guitarists and drummers who can only perform for pop artists. But when artists get labeled rock, hard rock, and heavy metal, it becomes illegal. Then imagine extreme bands like Ulcerate coming and singing these lyrics here! They will be arrested immediately.
@@mohammadreza7265 I am aware of all the dangers that could potentially come to the musicians. But still they are not so risky. Behemoth's shows were canceled in Russia, and all the authorities could do was detain them at the local police station for one night and then release them.
@@FELTSZ Yes, I totally get it, and I agree with you , they have to risk. but for example, I remember Roger Waters went to Moscow a couple of years ago, but it's different because, on the one hand, we have Roger Waters here , a big name , and in the other hand we have russia not iran. in iran, we barely have international concerts and shows(and yes, we have jazz festivals and something like this). so it's not common. I remember religious artists like Chris de burgh wanted to come here, and even his place was ready , all tickets sold, but at the end, they didn't give him permission! but for example, bands like Laibach can easily be here because of the reason you know.
what a wonderful surprise this morning... here you are to make my day, my month and my year 🤘🔥
Amazing as always! Bring Ulcerate to Roadburn again!
This is how you take metal to the next level. Pure masterpiece. Every album they've done gets better each time. This is musician craftmanship on a high level. Thoroughly enjoyed ever second of this album. So neuro, psychedelic, emotional, dark, light, utter bliss of universal cosmic sound. Thank you Ulcerate for evolving metal music.
Incredibly depressing music that challenges you to look at yourself from the perspective of knowledge accumulated by centuries of human experience.
Did not disappoint. Thank you.
