My name is Henry Tenby I’m the creator of the JetFlix TV aviation streaming service. I’m also a hard-core collector of aircraft display models. The professional types that are made for industry and the airlines. I was recently in Japan, and had the pleasure of visiting the Yodobashi Camera Hobby Shop that’s located on the west side of Shinjuku Station in Tokyo. I made this video to show builders of aircraft models what they might find in the store. If you watch the video, I think you’ll conclude that for aircraft model builders the selection is extremely thin and not very impressive at all. Many years ago there used to be a lot more for the aircraft model builder into Tokyo and the situation has gone downhill very drastically over the last few years. It’s very sad because the Japanese used to be hard-core aircraft model builders and they had terrific supply and selection, but the situation is now very different. That's quite sad, Every store should have a airliner section i think.
I totally agree. But the sad thing is Japan had so many specialist model shops with lovely airline models and memorabilia and collectibles, and they’ve all vanished. It’s like the Japanese gave up their passion for all things airline and aviation. What happened to them? The Japanese used to be so keen on aviation, but no more … certainly not for models.
It’s really sad being a model plane collector and not finding any stores that sell model planes. Furthermore, any time you look on Google or Apple Maps they never direct you to an actual model plane store and instead a hobby store that never sells what you’re looking for.
This is now the sad truth in Japan. Professional airplane models are few and far between.. unlike in the past.
Very neat to see a shop like that. Just curious but did you have to talk to the store in order to film or did they not care?
Hi Vekmam, I just walked around with my camera phone in my hand. I don’t think anybody noticed as the store was pretty much empty and I was by myself the entire time. I never had a problem doing any of my hobby shop related video filmings in Japan.
Hey do they sell 1:200 or 1:400 airliner? i found them mostly in bookoff
I didn’t see any civil airline models of any nature at this place. The selection was extremely underwhelming.
