      Not happening anytime soon, and very likely not coming from Uber, but deep learning can do what a vast majority of doctors do, and better. I've had staples for example and one was put in kind of criss-crossed. I had a girlfriend who had worse, and it was painful to take out. A machine can do it better 1. and 2. plenty of people could be trained to do it. I've never visited a doctor for anything that took much skill.

    Uber is all crap. I have a year experience as a driver and you make like $10/hour. People leave trash behind in you car and you have to take all their shit. They make you wait, make several stops sometimes. You pay for gas, mileage, taxes, Uber's fees and a safe ride fee. At the end of the day you just take pennies home.

      +Anthony Zelot A) 95% of UberX vehicles I have been in, about 200 rides in the last 1 year, has been cleaner and a more modern vehicle than taxis. B) Why do I care about ToS says about insurance? You think UberX drivers want to get in an accident and ruin their business by suffering massive costs to repair their vehicle and to deal with health insurance for themselves and their passenger. Whether Uber takes the cost or the driver does, who cares? It doesn't affect me, the customer. B2) Maybe late taxis don't bother you, but when I know exactly how many minutes it will take an UberX to reach me, that is worth everything. ---- tl;dr - UberX has been an amazing experience for me, which is why like I said I have taken so many rides in the last year. They take a huge cut and the fares are really low to begin with. The payout doesn't include taxes and they refuse to put in a tipping feature. In addition to that they don't educate the consumer that in an uber x tip is not included and these oh so grateful uber riders don't tip, almost ever. They pay for insurance, quality vehicles, vehicle maintenance, employee benefits. They have standards they have to meet and maintain. They are responsible if their driver robs you; has an accident that lands you in the hospital for 3 months; has an accident that kills you, leaving your spouse & 2 kids without a provider, has a vehicle break down that is going to make you late for the most important meeting of your life. The taxi example he gives is totally flawed. yes, the taxi system was monopolized but Uber is monopolizing their platform in a different way. Uber can enable as many cars as they want. And, because of this, they flood the streets with as many cars as they can severely limiting any earnings a driver might make as they have to compete with more and more drivers. On Uber's side, the more drivers the better. Cast the widest net possible and collect 20-30% of every available ride.

    • @EnderViBrittania
      @EnderViBrittania Před 8 lety +1

      +Jim Fath What's the problem with that? Uber is a company in a free market capitalist economy. We don't ration the supply side of the equation in a free market. As a customer, I love Uber because I get cheap rides. Why do you want to increase the price I pay?

    • @jimfath
      @jimfath Před 8 lety

      +Eragmus I drove for Uber for 2 years in Los Angeles and stopped once it dipped below minimum wage. (Factoring in taxes, maintenance, and depreciation) The drivers that are left are inept and don't factor any of the expenses in. Taxes the most notable. The ride share companies lose countless drivers after their tax bills arrive in the first few months of the year. I'm opposed to companies leveraging contractor loop holes to end around paying people a fair wage.

    • @EnderViBrittania
      @EnderViBrittania Před 8 lety +1

      +Jim Fath But think about it this way. If Uber paid a "fair wage" (i.e. translating into higher prices for customers like me), then customers will make less rides. As a customer, at least, the only reason I use Uber heavily is due to the low prices. If prices increased by a real amount, I would probably re-adjust my style to not use Uber any longer, or to use Uber far less... so no more daily use. In other words, a free market really is the best solution. The only real solution I can imagine is Uber should decrease how much it takes to a lower percentage. The other idea is drivers can become more efficient or 'smart' or 'creative' about how they work... I spoke to some drivers who said they make plenty, because they do things other drivers don't do (like wake up early and drive early morning hours, or late hours, or weekends, or hang around certain high-traffic areas like airports, etc.). Basically, in a free market, people have to be creative and innovative to get an edge.

    • @jimfath
      @jimfath Před 8 lety

      +Eragmus profitability for drivers depends on the market. It's lousy in LA but decent in SF. It's ok in NY and Seattle but it's regulated so there are only so many drivers allowed on the road. Part of the danger Uber is running into here in LA is that drivers have to strategize and work as many platforms as they can cut corners and ditching rides. Driving simultaneously for Lyft, Uber, Side Car, Wingz, and others. Sometimes that means icing out a passenger because you get multiple requests at once. You are punished for canceling rides and denied bonuses for acceptance. Or the request is too far away and it's not worth the risk of driving. For me, toward the end of my tenure with Ride Share driving, I was accepting requests from but not picking anyone that was more than 10 minutes away. The risk of it being a short ride and a net loss was not worth it. As a passenger I've had it happen to me a few times. Usually when I'm in fringe areas. I'll see the driver on the map driving all over the place picking up other passengers on other platforms waiting for me to cancel.
      Uber also lost 2 law suits based on the laws of defining employees as independent contractors and not actual employees. I think Uber is so new and groovy that people want to see how far it goes. There is a palpable effect on DUI's.

    All this just to survive.
    Then the driverless cars are implemented and we lose one income, then a robot starts to make lunches and the lunches are loaded in this driverless car , then we have to sell our home as we can't afford to keep it so we wind up homeless and just live in our car.

    3) Uber now takes 25% of what a driver makes whereas before it was 20%
    4) Uber doesn't allow tips
    5) Uber doesn't care about passenger safety since a lot of their background checks failed to stop many felons from driving
    6) Uber chargers the customer more fees now than before and it DOES NOT go to the driver such as " booking fee" "Safety fee"
    7) Uber dropped the fares for 5 different times in the past 3 years
    8) Uber can fire you without a reason
    9) Uber chargers up to 25% and whatever left you pay 20% tax on and whatever left from that you still have to pay gas and car maintenance
    10) Uber CEO is very greedy and he is a prick.

    Uber is the worst thing to happen to cab industry. Jobs weren't "created" except simply allocated. Look at NYC taking huge hit with Uber.

      but the cabs are controlled by the mobs, basically. you got to understand that. The medalion costs millions to get, and was controlled by a few mobs that over charge the taxi drivers. They are no good for anyone except for those mobs.
