That is the only boat I have sailed on and it was about in the 1980's. Fritz took 5 others and his nephew Robbie Johnson, and we left Southern California and had David Birchenough, a Youngman named Arie, who had just finished an around the world race and was very experienced, Erick Weiser, who was from Vancouver BC and a fellow from South Africa that I cannot remember his name now. Fritz told me there were video's of their old boat on CZcams TV, brought back a lot of memories. Passage was in a race off Honolulu and if I remember there were about 150 boats in the fleet. It was the only time I was on a sailboat, and I have the memory of that one time it happened to be on arguably the most famous racing boat of them all. Just talked to Fritz 5 mins ago. Great Video!!! It was on the hard at Westerly Marine, 2006? I had the pleasure of helping, if I remember some of the water tanks needed repair.. I heard do many stories… and this video clarifies the history… Thanks for carrying the flag, helping yachting history being preserved.
Thanks so much for posting! A bygone era of big boat superiority with WP, Blackfin, Ondine, and the Kialoa's. It was great to hear the stories of Tosh and the build. Looking at the work on the keel that had to be undertaken was indeed a heavy ah, grind. Love the waterskiing reference of Don Vaughn. The work done to refit WP is greatly appreciated by all those who know of her legacy. Cheers.
Thanks for posting. My brother Owen and I were crew on the 73' Black Fin. We had many exciting duels with Passage including two Trans Pacs, San Francisco "Big Boat Series" and numerous So. California races. No matter how hard our crew tried, Passage usually beat us.. Ernie Minney

Were you on board when Blackfin’s mast came down during a big boat series? I think Owen wrote a story about that.
