  • Over a year ago I bought my first ever lightsaber at Disneyland for $220. These days the same lightsaber and experience will cost you $250, but is that worth it? Here are my thoughts a year on, did I waste my money?

Absolutely agree, I have a fighting one I got for half the price but it's the experience. The immersion, the actors. My sister came along with me and she cried from just how cool the whole experience is.

For me personally as someone in Europe who will likely never have the chance to go to Galaxy's Edge, I decided to custom order LGT parts to make my own custom saber. And I'd definitely say that's worth it. The xenopixel Sabers are really customizable and I've bought a bunch of Soundfonts since. I'd definitely recommend that to anyone who wants a custom design and a good quality lightsaber.

If anyone wants a good quality realistic lightsaber, I highly recommend the Vega Hilt or the Scavenger Hilt from Imperial Workshop. Both of them are on the cheaper side which is good and there is a bunch of different sound fonts. Do some research though before you consider purchasing, so you know what you're getting into.

This was a great candid review on the Savi's Workshop lightsaber. I love the design you chose, its very cool! And the purple crystal was a great choice. I have a purple blade on my SaberForge lightsaber as well.

I did this in September, I got the same hilt style as you as unfortunately they were out of stock on a lot of the Black hilt components. I still really love what I made though. The whole experience was amazing a real holiday highlight for me, especially as it was on my birthday. It was $200 + tax back then and both my partner and I thought it was totally worth it. The hilt is really heavy and sturdy and the blade is really bright and vivid. The sound effects are also a nice addition. I did get the carry case with it and there were loads of people carrying them around while we were there. It was no problem getting it home either. I, like you, wrapped the hilt in a load of clothes in my main case as it wouldn't fit with the blade connected. Then carried the blade over my shoulder in the carry case. I kept it beside me on the seat on the plane as I didn't trust someone else's carry on not to crush it in the locker. The airport staff were fine with it, no questions through Orlando to Miami back to Heathrow. I'd definitely do it again it I could be sure of getting the Black Hilt components next time.

I did Savi's Workshop in Sept 2019, so it wasn't open for long and didn't have the blade colour variety it does now (hell, I didn't even realise you could get the other coloured kyber crystals until after I got back to Sydney 😭) but I must say it was an awesome experience, albeit very pricey like you said, especially in Oz Dollars.
I love my saber, and it is now almost my "everyday" saber, for lack of a better word, as I have since bought 5 Black Series replica sabers (Vader, Obi-Wan, Darksaber, Maul x2) and those are my display pieces so I use my Savi's one as almost the demo saber for family and friends to play around with (plus some of the BS sabers involve a longer blade insertion process than twist and click like the Savi's one). I will definitely do it again one day, and this time I'll remember to get all the bloody kyber colours 😂😂 great video Holly, love your work!

Just built one (May 2023). If you're a big fan I'd say you'll enjoy the experience but you may want to buy one of the pre-built sabers instead. They're cheaper and I think look better. If you do build one, make sure that you thoroughly inspect it before leaving. Make sure that you are able to unscrew the end caps and that the sheaths (pieces above and below the switch) are snug. I only looked at mine once I returned to my hotel and found the bottom cap was jammed and that the sheaths were very loose. Had to make a special trip back to Savis and have them fix it (although now 1 part is not aligned properly). 3 other people showed up while I was waiting with loose piece issues. Looks like the manufacturing on these parts is not consistent at all and a lot of people have problems.

To save battery life of the Savi's Lightsaber. With the blade out of the hilt, turn the power switch to the on position. When you hear the electrical short sound, it turns off the power. If you look down inside the emitter the flashing light, which is the Kyber crystal, turns off. When the blade is out, and the switch is in the off position the Kyber crystal light flashes draining the battery. I have two and this trick has made my batteries last.

I also did this experience. $150 would be the most I would pay again. The experience is pretty fun and for a hardcore Star Wars fan it's a must. For everyone else though I would say book a reservation to Oga's Cantina instead. Have some fun drinks take in the vibe and spend less and still get some potentially cool souvenirs. The Rancor Beer flight for example was only $80 bucks and I got some really cool glasses and stand. Savi's is a one and done experience for sure though.

Hate how the price increased once more due to the limited materials for every piece and Disney's greedy choices.
But still... Someone told me that it's an experience that I should try once... at least. So I'm thinking about visiting Disneyland in 2023. But I was also told that some old savi's saber pieces are retired and replaced with the new one apparently.
I'm trying to aim for Power and Control with Darksaber style. But ... will see.

On a Savi's Workshop saber, no; $250 includes a plethora of experiential Disney Star Wars things. They are cheap products. Real collectors, those that focus on sabers and/or quality products in general, will advise many sources of lighsabers that are leaps and bounds better than a Disney product at $250; differences are 1. You don't get the Savi's Star Wars lightsaber-puppymill experience and 2. you get a quality product.
I thought, based on your video title, that there was a legit concern and question. How I was mistaken...

The nice thing is that since the Savi's lightsabers are only available in the parks, their resale value is usually higher than the purchase price. So if you decide later that it's not worth keeping, or if you go into it just wanting the experience and not to own the lightsaber, it's pretty east to sell the saber for more than you paid for it. And you still get the experience of building it. Win, win!

The good thing about the Disney ones is they are legitimate star wars license props, which I feel would hold their value much better down the line than those custom unofficial branded ones.
