Crazy how far Scunthorpe have fallen. From playing Newcastle (currently the richest club in the World) in the league 12 years ago to playing Dorking Wanderers next season.
Same with Oldham if you go a bit further back, playing in the premier league, being in two FA Cup semi finals in the 90s and taking man United to a replay in one of them. Now playing the likes of Dorking, Eastleigh and Wealdstone next season.
Yeovil also down there after playing in the championship against Leicester 8 years ago, the same Leicester team that won the premier league 2 years later.
Another crazy fact to me is that Stockport County have played league football against Manchester City this century (in the second tier, 2002). Yet, only 17 years later Man City were winning the domestic treble and Stockport were in the sixth tier of English football, rubbing shoulders with Curzon Ashton and Spennymoor Town. 17 years difference!
Could go on and give example after example of this. The final one that I’m going to say is Wigan Athletic, a non-league team as recently as 1978, were in the same league as South Liverpool FC, Netherfield, Great Harwood, Frickley, and Goole Town. They were playing premier league football only 27 years later and winning the FA Cup, one of England’s most coveted honours, only 35 years later.
Makes you think what teams will be where in 10, 20, 30 years time. Imagine telling someone in 2009 that Brentford v Bournemouth would be a premier league fixture in 2022, when they were both in league two. Bournemouth finished 21st in league two that year but were playing in the premier league 6 years later.
Rambled on a bit here but find this kind of thing so interesting. The English football pyramid system is a beautiful thing.
EDIT: Feel like I have to mention Fulham going from finishing 17th in the fourth tier to playing Atletico Madrid in a European final within 14 years.
Great recap, fully agree! Such a fascinating pyramid. Truly anything can happen.
Absolutely. If you'd have told me 10 years ago that my club (Sunderland) would be playing my local club (Lincoln) in a league fixture, I'd have asked what you were drinking! But there lies the beautiful game.
Why are you dissing dorking wanderers we could definitely beat whoever you support
Next season away to Peterboorough Sports, Curzon Ashton, Farsley Celtic and South Shields.
I don't mind these long comments. Nothing wrong with talking about the romance (and tragedy) of football. It's why we all love our respective clubs and bleed their colours.
That first game between Sheffield Wednesday and Hartlepool United, I remember the game well. Hartlepool have never recovered as a club since.
We were punching well above our weight then, what do you expect from a club the size of Hartlepool? Talking like we're one of the big boys haha
Then again Everton is a similar size club to Hartlepool anyhow
@@theomegacoach Everton have an average attendance of over 39,000, Hartlepool is around 3000, Everton have won the top division nine times and won five FA Cups, Hartlepool have won nothing. Everton have played continuously in the top division for over 70 years, Hartlepool haven't played in the top division I think, in what world are Hartlepool bigger than Everton?.
@@johnnysmith486 It's called sarcasm mate
Keem ERKAL 78😊😊😊😅😅😅😮😮😢🎉🎉
thats why so many people love english football, 3 tier teams play at Wembley and 60k people want to watch this and the roar after goals, the best atmosphere in football
That Shrewsbury free kick routine is a thing of beauty
Yeovil Town sold more tickets at Wembley for their League One Playoff Final in 2013 than Man City did for a FA Cup semi this year.
I was at that Scunthorpe game when Gary Alexandra scored possibly the best goal at Wembley and I was devastated when they came back and beat us. We did go up the next season tho so we couldn't complain. COYL
From that. To non league football
@@gamemasteroffun there’s a lot worse stories then that mate.
same with yeovil?
Me too. I’m from London but live in New York, I couldn’t get time off work so I flew back for 48 hrs, watched us lose, then went back in time for work on Monday morning! Still the best goal I’ve ever seen live
I went to the Barnsley vs Swansea with my dad and his two work colleagues. I was quite young and was quite an experience going to Cardiff for the first time. Although I never knew Akinfenwa was playing for Swansea lmfaoo. I just remember running down to the bottom of the stands on the opposite end where the pens were taking and had nearly no idea what was going on but was a blast
How old are you now

14:38 I thought king Maguire miss it 😅
19:35 one of the best barnsley goals ever, absolute screamer by hammil
Lovely, thanks for the video.
When we needed him most… he returned
Love this video. Some proper forgotten players in the lower leagues. Plus some great goals and aegul haircuts 😂
Didn’t see Blackpool score 2 goals here unless you count them scoring in their own goal 😆. Good video though.
4 goals 1 own goal. Blackpool love a playoff final. Hopefully we can be on a future video next season
wow, i can't believe where yeovil have fallen to... hopefully we come back up to the football league soon 🤞
hope you lot get back to the efl from a blackpool fan
City was in the Div 1 playoff final then called Nationwide Div 2 back in 1999 v Gillingham. Won on pens great day MCFC
Packed Old Wembley too. 77,000 were there which is still a record til this day for a Div 3 play off final
Playoffs best games of the season
Wonder who the most recognised player is in here: Harry Maguire, or Bayo Akinfenwa?
Great video
I still watch that game in Cardiff to this day

What a infravalorade player.
Best game best atmosphere Wednesday 🦉

Swansea losing the play off final at the Millennium, poetic stuff
Cardiff will be in the League One Playoffs next season. 🏊♂️👍

@@SGMiner21 We’re not even out of the playoff race yet, but if we don’t make it, most of our fans are confident about next year. Although, we won’t have a guaranteed six points…
@@theoffsideflag5687 Yes you will Everton will be in the Championship next season :)
Pay up scummers u know wha u owe
Could you do every Champions League final? (Or at least every champions league final on tape?)
I would love to but unfortunately not, I tried to make a Euro history, managed to get clips for all the games, and UEFA copyrighted the video and won't let me publish
That Adam Hamil is incredible
Its honestly crazy how both Scunthorpe and Yeovil used to be in the championship given that they both aren't even in the Football League now.
...and they're relegated from national league and due to play in sixth tier next season, english lower league football was so harsh and punishing.
the attendance was 72,332 for wycombe - sunderland btw
Who saw Akinfenwa in this vid taking a pen for Swansea wish him a satisfying retirement tho
Nah man the GOAT is better
BEASTTTTT
Am a millers fan some sides are now None league.Div 2 and 1 and championship sod premiere league
Where is the second goal for Blackpool v Lincoln???😅
I don’t want to see it.

@@huffypuff0 wow nice one bro I did not figure that one out myself yet
ALEX BEST GOAL EVER UTM
hey look 0:00, its my club on the right!
14:38 this man has gone all the way...
commentator was so biased for our game in 2005
you can hear them cheering
Coz it's on a sheffield wednesday radio station ya prat
It's BBC radio sheffield that's why.
It's John Pearson ex wednesday player and wednesdayeite
It sounded like they were excited for Hartlepool goals as well. But more so on Wednesday obviously
Did Blackpool win their playoff final 1-1 ??
А где Лидс?
4:30 When Akinfenwa wasn't strong
Never a pen for Wednesday. Referee’s ego ruins a whole clubs season and future.
League Two please
As an Exeter fan, please god no...
@@Jackaljkljkl congratulations 👌

Has Sheffield Untied ever won play offs? and what about that one Yeovil v Brentford. Now Brentford is fighting for Europe while Yeovil is destined for relegation from the National league. couldnt be more extreme

@@JxkVx so he is your fault
@@theserhoratio He's a top player going through some tough times. He's got alot more premier league appearances than you kid
@@JxkVx I'm a man United fan, he's not a quality player, he's made so many mistakes, way more than an 80million pound player should be making

Can't relate my club has never and will never be in this league 😎
Lol should’ve been relegated
Maybe you should be in this league though, only way your trash team will win a trophy. Enjoy another relegation fight next season!
