I tell you what, my speckled sussex rooster is the best out the bunch. He loves hanging out with his people, really laid back. Super gentle with the babies, but ruthlessly protective over his hens. He's also protective over his people, any stray that wanders too close to his flock or us they're in trouble! They get spoiled easily and once they hit that point they become a bit demanding, but not in an aggressive way. If you want a good tempered, entertaining, but protective rooster I highly recommend the speckled sussex. I can't say enough good things about this breed, my favorite chickens period.
@@dad2-491 Wow, you have quite the flock! Ours is now just 6. Any advice on how to integrate these Speckled Sussex chicks in with our existing Easter Eggers?
@@CFarnwide There will always be a pecking order at first. It's normal with all birds being introduced to the flock. That's just how they integrate. If nothing else, we recommend holding them from time to time. There's just something about the care they receive. It usually translates into however they are treated, that is how they respond. At least that has been our experience so far. :-)
@@dad2-491 we plan on keeping them separate but next to each other in different coops and let them out to free range at separate times. For a little while at least. Maybe until the new ladies are fully feathered. Hopefully there won’t be any issues.
Beautiful! I didn't know about the green iridescent feathers! We have 3 chicks coming to add to our small backyard flock (2 Delaware hens). Can't wait! ❤
I just bought 6 chicks. They are so cute. I thought mine were 2 weeks old, but maybe not. The store I bought them from didn’t know. Mine aren’t as big as that 2 week old. Maybe mine are are more like 1 week old.
How would you compare them the the barnevelders? I was between the speckled Sussex and the barnevelders for my little flock, ended up going with the barnevelders.
They are.VERY good at foraging! In fact, they are the best at it with our flock! We honestly think they are kindest and gentle birds in our flock at this point. We love our birds, but SO FAR...nothing has topped our friendly Speckled Sussex chickens. :-)
@@dad2-491 thanks for the reply, we bought 12 birds (supposed to be 2 roosters and 10 hens, we'll see) they were 7 days old when we got then and are now 11 days old. Two of them will already will come to us (wife and I) and like to be held, they will fall asleep in our hands while getting neck rubs! So precious! ❤️ Shalom

Beautiful birds. I just got a 2 day old Sussex and can't wait to see her changes.
Thank you! You'll have to let us know how she turns out. I'm sure you will be happy! :-)
Love your t-shirt!
Thank you! She's got a couple of them. :-)

Thanks for the age comparison. Very beautiful birds :)
Thank you! Well, that makes 2 of us! ;-)
I always get those confused with the jubilee Orpingtons. I love Speckled suspects!❤ 👮♀️
Beautiful 😍
Pretty ladies
Stunning birds! I stopped by our feed store today for sunflower seeds and walked out with 3 of these little ladies and no seed. 😂
Thank you!
That's too funny! I say that, because that is how we started. Now we are at 117 chickens
😂

From various places. We have actually hatching out our own for a while now, and have been happy with the outcome. 🙂 Thanks for asking

Mine grew very very slow
Interesting. I'm honestly not sure if that is a trait of theirs or not. I guess we never really noticed that with ours. But thanks for sharing.
