I live nearby & have friends who live in Plympton St Maurice. All I am saying is that Plympton St Maurice was the original settlement. It is the oldest part of Plymouth. All the best.

Starting in the 90's, we started taking groups of ex-pats, military folks and families to Plymouth for the American Thanksgiving holidays. We were hosted on a few occasions by the Lord Mayor and one year, at the Mayflower steps, they read the greeting to us and the people of Plymouth from Pres. Obama. We regularly stayed at the old Astor residence which I understand is now being used for university housing. I love Plymouth and miss strolling around the entire city taking in the vista views from up above the harbor.

But you did not mention the fact that Plymouth started with Plympton St Maurice & that the town of Plympton St Maurice is full of fascinating old buildings, The Guildhall & The Old Grammer School for example, & has an ancient castle. Simply coming down the road into it is like falling into a time slip.

Plymouth didn't start with plympton lol that was a different place until it got absorbed into the city in the 1960s. He actually said this....

@@marc3981 Plympton St Maurice was the original settlement & port but the river there silted up eventually. Look it up.

I dont think you get it. Plymouth was a fishing village called sutton, plympton was a whole different place, miles away from Plymouth. The conversation is about Plymouth. Plymouth then swallowed plympton up. So the original Plymouth is Sutton, not Plympton which was, I repeat, not even part of plymouth until the 1960s. I dont know why you dont get that?

@@marc3981 I think I might be coming at it from a different angle to you. I will reword it. Plympton St Maurice was the oldest town in the area. It is now the most ancient part of Plymouth. Regards.
