The posting of this video is the height of incompetence, and is total fake news. Not one second of this video shows Cape Coral. This video shows a small island community called Matlacha that was wiped out. I live about 4 miles away from Matlacha in Cape Coral. Cape Coral received a lot of damage, but nothing like the damage shown in the video. To show this damage and claim it is Cape Coral really does a disservice to the people checking on friends and loved ones that may live in the area. FOX should be ashamed of the fake news they are pushing.

My heart goes out to you all down south! I hope and pray you get better help than we did. FEMA really didn’t help that much and when they did they required payment afterwards. Be careful to check what they’re going to require from you a year down the road before you accept any help from them!

My parents are in their upper 70's and desperately needed gas. They are in Cape Coral, and I am in Brandon. Our highway was closed and while I was frantically trying to plan how to get to them, a miracle happened. A couple in Ft Myers, who lost their home entirely, offered to deliver them a 5 gal can of gas. Neither my family or myself know them. My boyfriend's brother saw them post their phone number on Facebook for anyone needing gas.
I've seen countless people here trying to debate God with suffering people, as heartless and stupid as that is to do right now. I don't want to hear anymore about God not being there. When you see things like that, people who lost everything helping and comforting each other, to me, God is there, too.
So. God bless Brice and his family for helping my parents. I pray you can rebuild quickly and that you know how amazing you are! Thank you, Brice. Thank God for you.

I just got out of Cape Coral today. I left this morning and finally reached the Tampa area around 10 pm. There is no information getting in or out of Cape Coral. We have no internet, no power,no water, we haven’t showered for 4 days. Sewage is backing up I the streets with no garbage pickup and gas lines that are 1 mile long. Radio said near impossible to leave and people are stuck in traffic for 5 hours and running out of gas. I filled my tank and got out in an hour and it was like I drove into an alternate reality. In my opinion, they had planned on this hurricane heading north and are completely unprepared and have no clue what they are doing in Cape Coral and they want to keep people from letting others outside of the area know what’s going on. After the hurricane the weather has been cool and people are still kinda numb to the reality. I had the worry of what happens when it’s almost 90 again tomorrow and still no food, water, or electricity. Better to take my chances leaving and now I see that I literally know more now than I did 12 hours ago when I was actually in the cape.

I heard gas stations 60 miles north of Tampa are out of gas. Gas is going to be very hard to come by. This is very normal after a major hurricane. I was in the eyewall of Charlie in 2004 in Davenport, Fl. I would go out to my road and the stoplight didn't work for a month. There was a policeman there for a month. If I turned left, they had electricity that way. If I turned right the electricity was off and it was a dead zone for 30 miles I think. I never went down in what I called the dead zone. People died in the heat during Hurricane Charley. One man went out to his car to sit in the air conditioning and had a heart attack in his car. It is very bad. What you describe in Cape Coral doesn't surprise me at all. It will be like that for several months probably.

Floridians need to ask themselves a big question now: is Florida (at least near the coast) even habital anymore with storm intensity increasing? What's the point in building back over the next two years only to have another storm surge wipe everything away again. You CANNOT defeat or deflect mother nature's power and ferocity. Everyone wants to live by the sea, but it really is time to rethink the basic question about just how viable coastal habitation is anymore in Florida and possibly elsewhere. There is a reason the native Americans didn't choose to settle in Florida. That reason is hurricanes.

    • @fredlingenfelser2567

Native Americans did live in Florida. The Calusa Tribe was huge in most of south Florida, including the area where Ian hit. Actually, Ponce De Leon was killed by the Calusa tribe in the area that is now Cape Coral. Seminole Tribe was farther north. The Miccosukee tribe still lives in the area near the Everglades. The video shown is of Matlacha which is a historic fishing village area to the west of Cape Coral. Cape Coral itself is a newer area, and like most new residential areas in Florida, has homes built to sustain Cat 5 hurricanes. That's why Cape Coral itself sustained minimal damage despite being in the eye wall of the hurricane for nearly 8 hours straight.
