  • Thank you to our patron Cora for this amazing pick... side 2 will be next Tuesday! What a complete turnaround from "A Passion Play" with the heavy topics to this album about how us humans make war; I can't wait for the rest.

For the 1975 tour for War Child, they had a female string quartet on the stage with them for all the D. Palmer string arrangements. On "Ladies" , John Evan roamed the stage and directed us to join him on the "clap, clap clap" that appears throughout the song. Incredible.

Maybe helpful to note: this album came out just as the Vietnam War was winding down. Also - “Ladies” is about prostitutes. “Back-Door Angels” is one of Tull’s best songs all-time IMO. I saw the tour for this album in 1975 in Springfield, Mass. Mind-blowing for a 16-year-old kid.

I forgot how much I love this! It’s been a decade at least since I’ve listened to it.

I really hope those windows don't get any sun all day. I fear for those LP's 😱

'Ladies' has to be the prettiest song about prostitutes I have ever heard (caramel).

Anderson first conceived of much of this music as part of a larger film project he was trying get off the ground. The film never materialized. This album has a handful of really great songs, and a few that fall a little flatter for me, but are still good. Some were actually written around the time of APP. On this side, I prefer the last three songs to the first two.
    Caramel

I'm 3 months late to this party, but I brought the *caramel.*
Frazetta in the background. Tull on your playlist. Truly a man of good taste.🍻

This is an album that is often overlooked by Tull fans - I admit it is not one of my favourites, and seems completely different to their other albums. It may be because of how this was conceived (part of a film project that never materialised) and maybe they said - we've got this music, might as well release it as an album?
That said when I do get to hear it there are some good things going on - and you can tell it is Tull.

The extensive use of sax on this album gives it a flavor that's a bit different from most Tull albums

THis album was a bit of a shock/letdown after the incredible Passion Play. BUT--- Wow did it grow with repeated listens. To hear this musicianship again after a long time away is (still) mindblowing! Thanks,Lee....lovin' this react! Cheers, T

This came just as Tull was moving away from the “medieval folk” sound. I like this one and “Too Old to Rock And Roll, Tp Young To Die” but I’m not so much a fan of “A.”
