  • Physiotherapy Placements... They can be scary and overwhelming. But they are often the best part of the Physiotherapy degree. In this video, I talk you through my Physio Placement experiences and most importantly I share with you the key things that I have learnt over the 3 years of placements while completing my Physiotherapy degree. I go right back to my first year and my first placement, taking you on a journey through my experiences in different settings including Outpatients (MSK and Paediatrics) and Inpatients (Acute and Community).
    Key things I discuss:
My first placement, how I felt before, during and after.
Why it's completely normal to feel nervous before placement.
How I prepared for placement and what I learnt from preparing well.
How to work effectively with your educator and how to get through those tricky times.
How to really impress on placement.
Why getting things wrong is often the best thing in the end.
Looking after yourself on placement and staying away from home.
How much work to do in the evenings and on weekends (avoiding burn out).
Reflections and how to make them work for you.
    Communicating with the multidisciplinary team.
Taking opportunities to make the most of your placements.
Best of luck for your placements, let me know how you get on.

Considering going for degree apprenticeship physio in uk and you sharing your experience is very insightful and helpful, thank you. Any idea if mature student requirements would include anatomy and physiology from sports massage therapy level 3 ITEC? not sure i got enough education qualifications...

Hi! You should definitely go for it!!!
Sports massage won’t be needed. Massage isn’t really a treatment used these days.

I've just finished an access to higher education course, and I will be starting UNI in Sept for Physio. I'm 31, and had to re-do my GCSE's. Going back into education and having to learn and do presentations in a room full of hundreds of people scares the living day light out of me, and it was one reason it took me so long to become a Physio. Your videos are putting me at ease so much, and I love watching them. Any tips on presentations? How were yours? :) Thankssss so much.

Thank you Charlene. This great to hear. I wish you the very best of luck.
      Presentations:
Be passionate about what you’re presenting.
If you’re interested in it that will come out.
Know the content and don’t rely 100% on cue cards.
      Keep slides simple and uncluttered.
Use images and videos to keep the slides interesting.
      Smile!
      Dress smart.
      Practice Practice Practice Practice

Can I become a qualified physiotherapist by getting experience as a Physiotherapy assistant through the NHS?

    • @JamesArmstrongPhysio
      @JamesArmstrongPhysio  Před 3 lety

It will certainly help you but you’ll need to complete the degree or degree apprenticeship before qualifying as a Physiotherapist.
