    Mr. Peterson,
My parents abandoned me when I was 1yo. I lived with my grandparents. I grew up in a rural area and didn't get to socialize much. When I was 5 my mother and father came back into my life. My father was only around for a couple of weeks and then he met a woman with two kids and decided to start a new family with her. My mother joined the Army after only being around for a week and then was medically discharged after breaking her ankle. She moved to California after that. She met a man and I was going to go out there and live with my mom and her boyfriend died in a motorcycle accident. I stayed with my Grandparents till I was 10. My father rarely visited me and we lived in the same area. When my mother came back into town she met another guy and they settled down and got married. I went to live with them and my sister was born. My Grandpa died a couple of years later.
When I was 15 I lived with my dad for a short while and he had another child with my stepmom. He got to the point he didn't want me around and we had got into an argument. He knocked me out so bad I didn't know where I was at, who I was, and anything that had happened to me for a couple of hours. I went back to live with my mom. Her and her husband were in the first stages of getting a divorce and my mom would leave and my stepdad would emotionally abuse me to take his anger out her. At the age of 17 I met a girl I moved in with to get away from all the terrible shit at either one of my parents houses. We got engaged and she cheated on me with my best friend. I left town and joined the military after that. Then around 24 I was married to my first wife and she cheated on me multiple times even though we had what seemed like a good relationship on the outside. I went my own way an then met another woman who was also in the military who after about 8 months into our relationship cheated on me with her command chief who was married. I once again did my own thing and was left with such a bad experience and lack of faith in the military that I got out after 10 years of service. I traveled the US and worked different places and finally met another woman. After a 3 1/2 year relationship she started seeing another guy me when we had separated for about 2 weeks.
I have been betrayed, lied to, beaten, forgotten, and at several points almost took my life. I finally realized at the end of the day, that this is their eternity, they have set down. I tried to be a good person and do the right thing always and that is my eternity. I am finally at peace knowing everything that happened to me was not my fault. I am not fragmented, just scarred. I am grateful that there are heroes like you Mr. Peterson, and many others that were my guides through this terrifying and wonderful life of mine.

Connecting with people is much less meaningful because of the convenience factor technology provides. People wrap themselves in pools of digital security and feel they have nothing to lose. It's so easy to run and not look back because there are just so many possibilities, or so we think. In reality, I think if we really look back, we all wish we could have tried harder. It's so easy to give up on love when you can literally call or text or summon men/women online. What is there to lose? I wish people could ask what is there to gain?

My friend (who just happens to be a shrink) had this talk tonight.
My now ex girlfriend was constantly on every social media app out there. She posts a lot of selfies. Guys would constantly comment about how "hot" she looks and everything like that, even though it showed me as her BF on her profiles. There's no boundaries anymore. And as much as she said she didnt care about the likes and comments, I knew she thrived off it.
Towards the end of the realtionship, one time when I was really letting it get to me, I blatantly told her, "All those dudes, talking about how hot you are, how they'd like to hook up, etc. They dont know you. They aint in for the long hall. They are all hit it and quit it dudes. They know the filtered you. Your filtered make up pictures. I know you. Ive seen you when your face is broke out. Ive seen you when you decide to go a day or two without shaving. I know you good mood, bad mood. And Im here. Im right here."
I know i was/am not perfect, and I should have handled a lot of things different. But Im willing to work on those things. I was working on them. It has gotten harder once more, now that im really down, but Ima fight everyday to try and better myself for me and someone to possibly share my life with. Hopefully... Seems dim in these times though.
Like you touched on, SM has taken the fight out of people. They are no longer willing to fight. After all the hot fitness instagram couples dont have to work on their realtionships. They are just perfect.
... Sorry just venting. Still fresh.

We all need to discuss love and define it better. Love is a choice. We each have the power to choose it on some level. It seems like people really believe that they are supposed to find love or "fall in love". Not the case. You can't trust fleeting hormonal feelings when you need a committed and understanding relationship. You have to create a definition of love and find a woman who is willing to accept your definition and you must accept hers. I did and I've been happily married for 5 years. Hardest years of my life, but no worthy thing will come easily.

I felt broken for a long time. fragmented feels possible to heal completely and even be a better version than I was before the pain (because I’m smarter and more experienced now). Broken felt like something was wrong with me beyond repair. Fragmented is like I have a new set of pieces to glue back together again…but the new me is better than the old me. It still hurts a lot to be fragmented, and it can take a long time and a lot of work, but healing is possible. Thriving is possible. JP isn't just some internet guru he's a pretty well respected academic. And sure some of his ideas may be a bit questionable but for the most part JP gives some pretty solid advice. Having a long term relationship and taking on responsibility is by far the easiest route to meaning for most people. And the lacking acknowledgement of this fact is probably one of the primary reasons for the amount of misery many western people experience despite our material wealth

    • @SkeeNnN
      @SkeeNnN Před 3 lety

@J D well JP's advice really isn't political. Sure hes advice may align with the conservative ideology but I find that most useful advice is somewhat conservative since it implies that you have to take responsibility for yourself. Liberals blaming society for all their problems doesn't really allow the individual to do much other than be mad at its sorrundings which really isn't useful. I don't think JP suggests a one size fits all solution. But hes advice will work for the vast majority of the population. Sure some people felt trapped in the christian marriage and it might therefore not be the perfect solution for people who can find meaning in other aspects of life. But in general commiting to a long term romantic relationship is a really healthy life choice since it provides some sense of meaning in a chaotic world and seemingly meaningless existence.

But he was unsure and we are long distance , about 4 hours , and he wanted the butterflies and spark. I believe comfort is better but I don't know anymore. He might be emotionally unavailable, he says he's used to his independent life and feels numb.

As you said, have another brain to help to analysis situations or predict the outcome of a decision or an action. The trust must established in certain way. sometimes we do repair relationship to keep it from into more chaos, but in the process, maybe individuals just has less power than the force driven behind. Hi, Jordan Peterson.
Much as I respect you and your work and much as I agree that boys need a good male role model around when they are growing up, I would suggest that not ALL men need an intimate relationship.
As I see it, there is one skill that is necessary for any personal development by either gender. That one skill is the ability to self analyze objectively and constructively.
Sadly, MANY people either do not have that skill or do not use it.
    Just my 0.02.
You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

"If you live completely outside the norm then people won't know what to do with you".
Very, very true. But there are positives to living outside the norm - you don't have to live up to anyone's expectations other than your own, you follow your own compass & are basically totally autonomous in everything, you're free from judgement and from all the bleating the sheep will do when they perceive you doing something wrong.
But more than likely you'll have to go it alone more often than not, if you can live with that then you're on easy street.
A man does what he does for his own reasons - period.

that's not women, that's humans in general nowadays, cause we always see that through, for example, tinder and other apps as such you can easily find a new mate, that might fit even better
i'd say the problem lies in the selftaught nature, that relationships usually are, most people aren't used to teaching something themselves and thus get overwhelmed
i on the other hand try to solve issues and commit to a relationship cause i don't like gambling, i always lose, and starting a new relationship, even with the prospect of it being even better than before, it's still a gamble since i don't fully know the other person
just to get back to the starting point: all humans currently suffer from overwhelming options and not knowing what to do, stumbling through relationship life, hoping it'll work itself out
on a sidenote, there is no need for these specific relationships, all throughout history there have been people devoted to many a things (science for example) but none of them were relationships, and they even led very happy lives

@@XthgiN And yet with all these options people are more disconnected than ever.
Cause we think we don't have to put the effort in if there is a new one around the corner? It's quite sad. I find it hard to make friends even cause they won't commit to spend enough time with you or would rather sit at home.
When there is a conflict that's when you can make the connection even stronger and yet we choose to take the first exit.
I feel like this is more true in large cities.. but I'm having a hard time going back to rural life. Once you have left, that connection is gone as well.

    • @XthgiN
      @XthgiN Před 3 lety +2

@@hgzmatt first part is pretty much what i was saying, yeah
making friends is another point entirely, since the situation you describe can be caused by many reasons, unless you know the reasons it's hard to see the option of change
some people are overwhelmed with life, thus don't have the energy for much, even if you give them options
these people actually could need some help from professionals to get more energy into their life
just wanting to sit at home and not going out is fine too, you can always try to go for gaming, no need to go out if you don't feel like going
i'm actually living in a large city, have been my whole life (so i guess you are kinda right), but i think at some point i wanna live a rural life, at least for some time, get the energy back up

They clearly never met ace women who aren't even interested in sex and if they stay with you it's because of what's "inside" of you. The fact that many men and women choose partners that are prone to cheating is their fault. There are many unique people that aren't interested in sex, cheating and similar stuff you just have to look for them. Generalising ALL women and men as cheaters is stupid and unfair.

Nolan, that used to be my thought. Until you have dealt with, in person, with the powerlessness over another human in an intimate setting, you couldn't understand. Dealing with a mental illness in another who refuses to recognize it and it's relatively high functioning otherwise for example could literally too your life apart and hurt the most fragile and innocent of people: children. Grappling with this reality has left me wondering what the hell one can actually do. When professional help {multiple} gives up, you got to question the futility of it all. You literally cannot control it, or help it, or make it better, leaving life quite painful and conflict oriented when trying to benefit the innocent ones using legal and psychological accepted guidelines.

If you threaten my safety (physical, emotional, financial, psychological or spiritual), my sovereignty or my sexuality in my domain, you WILL be jettisoned ASAFP.
Not a question of "responsibility" as I put these matters up front.
We now have a class of women who believe in no uncertain terms that they can do ANYTHING they want. If you balked at my first statement, consider this:
If you can't enforce these basic things bluntly and matter of factly, what protection can you offer any offspring?
      Answer: NONE
There have to be clear and enforceable boundaries. In my domain, I set those - no one else.
Enforcement is where the drama starts because most men think "putting their foot down" is how that is done. Not today.
For example, controlling your own finances in YOUR OWN HOME where you prevent overspending is now considered DOMESTIC VIOLENCE according to U.S. laws...
      Think about that a second...
You do the manly thing and try to prevent fiscal and potentially familial catastrophe in the form of reprocession, eviction, job loss (negative credit WILL cost you some jobs) and YOU ARE THE VILLIAN!!!
You go to court, documents in hand, thinking the judge will see her foolishness and censure her. THEY DON'T.
      Now what do you do?
In fact, in many financial jobs, her behavior could also put you in violation of FEDERAL LAW. How? SEC rules state that you AND YOUR IMMEDIATE FAMILY MEMBERS are barred from some certain investment activities in specified timeframes...
What happens when the nutcase "I'm to independent" shrew you married doesn't listen to you?
      Thaaaats right....
      YOU lose your job!
      YOU lose your freedom.
      YOUR credit is damaged
YOU are now homeless and as she leaves, YOU have to pay for kids you can't see and YOU are jailed if you can't pay for them.
Only accountability you have at this point is to dropkick her out of your life the FIRST time she comes out of pocket. Period.

It’s okay, you’re only 17. He’s talking about it in the since of long term and your life as a whole. Everyone is kinda isolated from each other right now because of quarantine. I wouldn’t put to much pressure on yourself right now over what he’s saying. You’re still very young

What if you just want to be your own self, why is that unremarkable unless you are a tremendous genius ? I’m not a genius but most things that have been set up by other people , just because the masses use them or believe them, doesn’t mean I should and I’m still a very highly productive citizen that contributes to making things better for people that I can reach out .

Fernando R:The problem isn’t necessarily being alone, it’s feeling lonely, which is something you might feel if you’re alone. Especially if there’s internal factors preventing you from even engaging in social behavior effectively, such as SAD(Social Anxiety Disorder) or APD(Avoidant Personality Disorder). I’ve been taking SSRI medication for it, exercising regularly, following a healthy diet, going to therapy, and trying meditation, and I still have absolutely no friends or any relationships at school or outside of it. It really just drains your soul for it to always be without another.

@@brandonleskil4523 Hey you're definitely not alone (in your particular state in life)! Based on your brief description, you situation sounds almost identical to mine; the only difference is that I'm working. But it's not just our fault...many aspects of external society simply dont take our issues seriously. "Be yourself and the world will accept you for who you are..." I was inundated with tons of these naive progressive platitudes when I was young. Incredibly misleading...

@@brandonleskil4523 That indeed, not being alone is the problem, but being lonely is.
I've been an introvert as kid already, but i always wanted at least a FEW people in life around me.
If i'd ever get a GF, i'd like to be with her, but also would love to have my own times... but most women don't like such men, i guess, and if many do like or don't mind, i haven't seen many if any.
I'm 36 right now, btw, if anyone wants to know, and NEVER had a GF due to life taking a bad turn with my brain damage making me in some kind of zombie state, as a i call it, so missed a big part of life.

I need to show it to someone that it's happening to but they can't see it because they believe everything this other person is telling them. Any help would be great ? does anyone know the video I'm talking about ? please help.

We should not keep making the mistake of looking for happiness outside our selves, like in relationships. First and foremost be at peace with the Self. From that, anything goes and nothing is needed. Peterson is the classic western psychologist who thinks he has found new ways to rearrange the deckchairs on the Titanic. But the answer is not on the ship.
