If you’ve been researching the latest discoveries when it comes to longevity, healthy foods, and taking care of yourself, then you’ve likely seen the word “polyphenol” a lot lately. So, if you’re interested in learning more about polyphenols, you’ve come to the right place.
Consider this article a sort of basic course in all things related to polyphenols. Not only will this detail what they are, the foods that contain them, and how to get them - it’ll also answer your biggest questions about polyphenols and what they can do for you.
    What are Polyphenols?
Dietary polyphenols are important compounds found in lots of natural foods, like:
    Fruits
    Vegetables
    Lectin-free cereal grains, like millet
    Tea
    Coffee
    Wine
But, polyphenols aren’t just the building blocks of good-for-you, plant-based chemicals, they’ve also got a lot of incredible antioxidant properties.1

I just wanted to say, I heard you talk a little about glycine, and that it helps for sleep. I bought some. And it did help. I drive a delivery truck from Oakland to Sacramento. On the way back to Oakland it's hard to keep from nodding off. But, the first time I used glycine before sleep, the next day I didn't nod off at all. And every day, I kept feeling more and more awake. I even felt happy on the following Saturday, my day off at the end of the week. I felt peppy. Usually Saturdays are definitely days for taking naps, and feeling mopey. But not now. I am alert, and want to do things. I even watched you, and also Dr Amen. Thanks you so much!

This might help someone; I have used rich polyphenols for many years and it was a therapy that turned out to be quite beneficial. I had a serious autoimmune disease and was quite disabled. I use a wider range than described in the video such as turmeric, ginger, paprika/cayenne, moringa etc. I found a help mixing these in warmed organic chicken stock or broth with some olive oil which I believe helps carry the polyphenols into the cells. Chicken broth is rich in glycine which helps with anxiety and chicken stock has some natural chemicals can assist the immune response. Tazo teas have some nice blends that can be turned into cold teas that have wide polyphenol blends. Hibiscus is very helpful as well, very cardioprotective.

Thanks for the great information! How do you feel about dairy? I never had an issue with it growing up, but now it seems like it might be bloating me and causing digestive issues. I hear so many different things about dairy and that we should be eating cheese, not the typical store bought stuff, but real cheese like cheese curds and whole cream and milk straight from the cow and not pasteurized. I drank milk straight from the cow all my life and felt great. So the stuff they call milk in the store is not healthy I feel and no nutritional value, especially the 1%. What is your take on dairy in general if you are in your 60's. I need calcium and when I take calcium supplements I have issues with kidney stones.

If have been giving avo oil preference over olive oil when cooking, because of the higher smoking point of the former, but now believe that because of the abundance of polyphenols in olive oil, the oil does not get "damaged" under relatively high temperature cooking. Hi Dr Gundry. I have a question. The supplement Quercetin Phytosome has really been a histamine intolerance game changer for me! But i see its derived from Sunflower. I am following your lectin free diet, which has also given me so much relief, but im concerned if the Sunflower in Quercetin Phytosome safe for my lectin free diet?

Dr G for intermittent fasting when you drink black coffee n tea or eat handful of nuts is it counted?.
Some podcast said they delay eating with above drinks. How about food drinks like milo or ovaltine. Are they considered as food or similar to tea n coffee.

    Dr. G,
What is your position on the effect polyphenols have on persons afflicted with Osler-Weber-Rendu disease? I have read they should be avoided but have been on your program going on 4yrs now. Do you think I am helping or hurting my longevity? Thanks

Hello Rick, great question! Simply take two small capsules twice per day, preferably before a meal. We suggest before breakfast and dinner! It’s important to take your Bio Complete 3 every day on a consistent basis. If you have any further questions or concerns, please let us know.

I think it's important to mention that the polyphenols are not a direct antioxidant, but they "harms" the body and stimulate the transcription factor called NRF2, that upregulate the production our body's antioxidant enzymes like SOD, glutathione, etc
