Alright so I was 4 minutes in the video and read the comments and thought that this guy was the A hole, but then after watching the whole video I see the bigger picture and trust me this guy is definitely not the only issue, I believe he has definitely bettered himself and Im curious to where his life will go.
Dude sounds bad, but the fact that he was berated by the guy who fucked his wife, while having a baseball bat in hand, and didn't actually swing tells you that he really isn't violent beyond lack of emotional regulation (slamming things, throwing things). The wife knew he had anger issues so she pushed him all the time to not only put his daughter against him but to help her build a bond with her. Two birds with one stone. Man, i see so many people here calling the op an a hole, but damn, I can even begin to imagine the pain he went through, despite in a different situation, I also had to play the middle man, way too many times in difficult situations, and I know how hard it is. This man was sexually and physically abused, was traumatized, had anger issues, his daughter whom he loved betrayed him in such a level that no parent except the most terrible ones deserved, and he wasn't that, his wife cheated on him, and wasn't even apologetic, she didn't care, they tricked him, betrayed him, put him in misery, It breaks my heart to see that people seem to not remember what he went through all his life, this man needs a hug, he needs someone who'll love him, he had such a hard life and was punished even more for things out of his control, it's so commendable that he didn't decide to just end it all, if I was on his place I know I wouldn't have tge strength to keep going, I'm so terribly sorry for him. Before people call out fake because of the attention to detail in his recollection and him explaining how that's just how we functions in panic situations. That's actually how the human brain works in life or death situation. He might have some wires crossed in this brain that makes him think that the the cheating was a literal life or death situation. If you've ever been in a life or death situation like a bad traffic accident, you know that's sensation of time slowing down. It's not that your perception of time is speeding up. It's that your brain is burning all of its excess calories to try to remember even the most minute detail of what's happening so that if you survive you don't get into the same situation again. It's a fascinating phenomenon with the human brain
Not to mention that soldiers are trained to give detailed accounts of extremely stressful situations, so their superiors can fully understand their tactical situation even if the officer is not present to see whats happening. Reading this sort of felt like watching F is for Family, or Bojack, or some other show where the protagonist is messy and f**ked up, but extremely sensitive, aware of their faults, and cares deeply about those around them, and you come to realize that they aren't the only issue, but that they're quite possibly the root of it all as well. Considering everything O.P. has done vs everything those around him have done, however, these shows seem like an extreme comparison. But they are the best I can draw. Throughout the story, it seemed like he was genuinely getting better or at least putting his all into trying, but because the people who had insisted he change for them so they could move forward still didn't forgive him, things got messy again. Even after all of the main drama was over, and he was picking himself up from his lowest point, it was obvious that he was still messy and misguided. I especially noticed that when he recommended lying to get an extreme antidepressant ahead of the recommended times to people who were also in a fragile and messy state of mind.
He is a very deeply flawed man. And I wish him all the best. It’s honestly surprised to see such a butt. I’m assuming honest story because no one wants to talk about the shit they think they did bad they only want to think about the good or make themselves look good if they’re telling their story.

Man, i see so many people here calling the op an a hole, but damn, I can even begin to imagine the pain he went through, despite in a different situation, I also had to play the middle man, way too many times in difficult situations, and I know how hard it is. This man was sexually and physically abused, was traumatized, had anger issues, his daughter whom he loved betrayed him in such a level that no parent except the most terrible ones deserved, and he wasn't that, his wife cheated on him, and wasn't even apologetic, she didn't care, they tricked him, betrayed him, put him in misery, It breaks my heart to see that people seem to not remember what he went through all his life, this man needs a hug, he needs someone who'll love him, he had such a hard life and was punished even more for things out of his control, it's so commendable that he didn't decide to just end it all, if I was on his place I know I wouldn't have tge strength to keep going, I'm so terribly sorry for him. He made mistakes but the punishment he received was absolutely disproportional, i wish this man a happy life and that everything good comes on his way, despite his mistakes, he deserves it

The explanation you were given is not weird in any way. It is the opposite of weird, actually, because it is extremely common. Your not understanding something does not mean it is weird, especially when it is the epidemy of normal.
And I do not just mean a victim (male or otherwise) not wanting to detail abuse against them. I am also referring to the fact that OP is telling a story in great detail, and then not detailing a specific event. It is normal.

It doesn't absolve him of his own wrongs. But he made no excuses for himself either and took accountability for that. It also doesn't absolve his daughter for doing what she did or his wife for being the absolute POS she was too. Before people call out fake because of the attention to detail in his recollection and him explaining how that's just how we functions in panic situations. That's actually how the human brain works in life or death situation. He might have some wires crossed in this brain that makes him think that the the cheating was a literal life or death situation. If you've ever been in a life or death situation like a bad traffic accident, you know that's sensation of time slowing down. It's not that your perception of time is speeding up. It's that your brain is burning all of its excess calories to try to remember even the most minute detail of what's happening so that if you survive you don't get into the same situation again. It's a fascinating phenomenon with the human brain
Not to mention that soldiers are trained to give detailed accounts of extremely stressful situations, so their superiors can fully understand their tactical situation even if the officer is not present to see whats happening. OP being so detailed made a lot of sense to me, because he's a marine and I was baffled that people would use that to accuse him of lying.

Reading this sort of felt like watching F is for Family, or Bojack, or some other show where the protagonist is messy and f**ked up, but extremely sensitive, aware of their faults, and cares deeply about those around them, and you come to realize that they aren't the only issue, but that they're quite possibly the root of it all as well. Considering everything O.P. has done vs everything those around him have done, however, these shows seem like an extreme comparison. But they are the best I can draw. Throughout the story, it seemed like he was genuinely getting better or at least putting his all into trying, but because the people who had insisted he change for them so they could move forward still didn't forgive him, things got messy again. Even after all of the main drama was over, and he was picking himself up from his lowest point, it was obvious that he was still messy and misguided. I especially noticed that when he recommended lying to get an extreme antidepressant ahead of the recommended times to people who were also in a fragile and messy state of mind.
I could feel his anger in my SOUL. I feel so bad for the man. My heart aches for him and rages at everyone that has done him wrong.
As someone who has a parent with anger issues, whats happened to OP is not fair.

I feel so bad for OP. I've dealt with similar mental issues and understand how hard it can be to get to a good place. It really feels like his Ex was out to get him once she got bored of him and went to extreme lengths to try and get out on top. I hope OP stops being so hard on himself.
