    Name check:
    Eric Cantona - Manchester United legend, absolute maverick with a football at his feet. Played for the club through the 1990's and almost singlehandedly turned the club at that time from strong title challengers to the most dominant team in the country. His name is still sang by United fans at every game today. So many CZcams videos of him for you to watch fella.
    Georgie Best - Another football genius from the 1960s/70s. Regarded by many as the best player they have ever seen, his career was cut short due to problems with alcohol which later contributed to his death. Dubbed 'El Beatle' by the Spanish press he was the first footballer ever to achieve rock star like adulation.
    Zlatan Ibrahimovic - JT, I'm like 90% sure you've reacted to him before honestly. Big tall beast if a center forward with a pony tail/man bun...
    Adam Johnson - former Sunderland and Manchester City winger who was caught enticing young girl fans 15 and younger into sexual relationships. Jailed for 6 years in 2016.
    Andy Carroll - absolute doggy poop player over rated by Liverpool who spent a then record fee to bring him to their club where he flopped.

    I now live in New Zealand, when I had a season ticket, there was two guy’s in front of me from Northern Ireland, and they were there for the midweek matches too 99% of the time and they had to fly to Liverpool (because it was cheaper than to fly to Manchester) then they had to get a bus 40 miles to Manchester City centre, then get the Metro to the ground, sometimes they’d miss 30 minutes of the first half if they were delayed.

    When I first moved to England in 2004, I had a job in a hotel just on the other side of the Manchester Ship Canal from Old Trafford stadium, about 5 minutes walk away across the bridge. Every Man United home match day the hotel would be full of regulars from literally all over the world. Asia, Africa, North and South America, they would came to the UK multiple times a year to support Mancheter United. The whole district was heaving on match days. For a couple of hours before a match you couldn't even get near a bar within a couple of miles of Old Trafford and for a couple of hours after a match there was no point in trying to travel as the roads and tramlines were solidly blocked with traffic.

    Eric Cantona is the player most credited with United becoming champions for the first time in over 20 years. We still call him King Eric. His retirement came as a shock and he became an actor.
    Football in this country has a number of huge rivalries. Liverpool v Man United is still regarded as probably the biggest game in the world because they're the two best supported teams in the world (even more so than Real Madrid or Barcelona). United v City is United's other big rivalry, even more so now that City have managed to become the best team in the country. But there are others, such as Newcastle v Sunderland (which won't be happening again for a while), Swansea v Cardiff, Arsenal v Spurs.

    In England alone there are 92 fully professional teams. Though 3 are from Wales as the Welsh league is not big enough to support them.
    It is possible to set up a minor league team with over 1000 teams ahead of you and over time reach the very top of English football. Never been done and extrenely unlikely, but possible.
    We all have our local rivals and if in the same division, matches between us are called derby matches. They can be violent and small cities like Norwich draft in police from the Met to help police them.
    Norwich City are nicknamed the Canaries so sticking to the bird theme...

    They have a dark side to their chants which wasn't shown here, often referring to the Hillsborough disaster and baseless accusations of victimhood from Liverpool supporters, along with allegations of "murderers". Their excuse is that it is in retailiation for what is said about the Munich disaster, as if two wrongs made a right. Exploiting any disaster, be it Hillsborough, Munich, Heysel, Bradford, Ibrox, whatever, is bang out of order.

    • @jamesfarragher3066
      @jamesfarragher3066 Před 2 lety +1

      Yeah... baseless accusations pf victimhood... clearly... 🤣
      However I do agree, songs and chants referencing disasters have no place in the game. Strange how a section of the United support have songs referencing Hillsborough along with songs referencing how the behaviour of Liverpool fans were responsible for the deaths of 39 Juventus fans at Heysel... but don't chant about other disasters at other clubs? As you mention, this might have something to do with how Liverpool had mocked (and still do) Munich since 1958, around 30 years before...
      No excuse to do it like I say... but a very clear reason as to why they retaliate.
      Liverpool, Leeds and City are still the three main culprits today of plane gestures...

      @@JohnsysChannel like I say fella, I completely agree there's no place for scoring points from the disasters that have befell both clubs. Not in my eyes or the eyes of many other fans.
      Mentioning to Geoff that given the fact that by the time of Hillsborough/Heysel, Liverpool fans had mocked the Munich disaster for 30 years is NOT me condoning the retaliation by United fans. I do not condone it. However I do understand how it's came about.
      You have to respect what Liverpool have done in the game. Liverpool and United have always been the two biggest clubs in yhe country regardless of the success, which simply added another layer. We're more akin to warring brothers than anything else...

    • @JohnsysChannel
      @JohnsysChannel Před 2 lety

      @@jamesfarragher3066 Yeah, totally agree dude. As much as I want United to lose all the time, there's a level of respect there. They've been an incredible team in my lifetime, and annoyingly the better team for a lot of it. Glad that the tables have turned in our favour again recently, but you can't knock the Fergie era of United for the way they dominated everything. His last season getting that crap team over the line to win the league just summed up how good a manager he was. It was infuriating to watch as a Liverpool fan. The only glimmers of hope we had were a couple of wins here and there. Dirky's Hat trick comes to mind straight away. :)

    Angel Di Maria was signed by United for mega money and then after just one season, he was sold to PSG at a loss because his form had dipped and he wanted out. A year or two later, the two clubs met in the Champions League and he scored against us, making gestures to the fans who'd been booing him the whole game. We then had to play the second leg in Paris and were 2-0 down after the first leg at Old Trafford. We got really lucky just a few minutes from the end and shut up Di Maria by winning 3-1 - the tie as a whole finished 3-3 (add scores from both games) but we went through because we scored more away goals (3 to their 2).
    So, no love lost between United fans and Di Maria.
