    excellent professional vid, will quote this as a standard format to be achieved by other vendors - given the utter incomprehensible ego trip garbage that is usually presented and is such a waste of time. ***** gold

    Hi Anthony, this video series is really very helpful in getting started with Dorico SE. I am lloking into this because I wold like to understand if I should switch from editing notes in Cubase to Dorico. Trying to write my first project I could not find out a few things. Maybe I'm a little bit blind.
    1. How can I add / edit the project title ?
    2. I want to split pauses in bars without any melody notes to write Guitar chords in the right position. E.g. split a shown one bar pause into two half bar pauses.

    • @dorico
      @dorico  Před 4 lety +1

      You can add the project title in File > Project info and for the pauses, start the caret line, use the arrow keys to place it on the beat you need and then use the Shift + H (holds) popover and type pause (and press Enter).

    What is the minimum system requirement on IMAC to instal Dorico SE

    • @dorico
      @dorico  Před měsícem +1

      There's a system requirements section on www.steinberg.net/dorico/se/ but basically you'll need macOS Ventura or later, a mid 2013 or later i5 and minimum 4GB (8GB recommended) with around 6GB of free hard drive space.

    • @dorico
      @dorico  Před měsícem +1

      @@said1949 I think your latest OS is 10.13 so you'd have to go back to Dorico 3.5, but the elicenser licensing system for v3.5 is being discontinued next year. If you can run OS 10.14 you could run Dorico 4.

    • @dorico
      @dorico  Před 3 lety

      No, but if you have an OCR program already it'll be able to export musicxml that you can import into Dorico. Or try something like PlayScore on your phone to take a picture of some music and convert to xml.

    Hi Anthony, I'm completely new to Dorico and am finding your tutorials very helpful. I have a vocal and piano staff, like your example piece. It currently has 6 bars per line (system?), but I want only 4 bars per line. How do I do that?
    Thanks, RIchard

    • @dorico
      @dorico  Před 4 lety +2

      You can either add system breaks where you want them, or if you always want 4 bars per line go to Layout Options > Staves and Systems > Casting off and set the option there.

    I notice that Dorico humanises the playback by varying the velocities and timing of each note. Can I disable this, or is this setting only available in Dorico Pro?
    [Edit: SOLVED] Another playback-related issue: I am unable to find the setting which makes the music play with Swing. SOLUTION: Type 2:1 in the Ctrl+T popover and select a suggested option.

    Hello Anthony, could you please tell me how to change the language of the instruments in Dorico3.1 (for example : Hautbois instead of Oboe. I know there is a function for this but I don't remember how to do it. Thank you! Franck

    • @dorico
      @dorico  Před 4 lety +1

      You can change the instruments language option in Engraving Options > Language but please note that this only affects instruments created after you make this change. If you have already added the Oboe you'll need to then use the 'change instrument' option.

    first of all thank you for the video, but i think it is not easy if you have to hold another key just to move to another notes, and the you have to go to the chord modes just to input stacked notes, why not making it easier press 3 to add the third etc ...

    • @dorico
      @dorico  Před 3 lety

      We've made it more consistent to move the caret up/down/left/right, which is the more common action, and then added Alt/Opt as the move key (also up/down/left/right) as it's the less common action. Regarding intervals, we use the numbers on their own e.g. '3' etc as the note lengths. Often a MIDI keyboard is used for note input, which makes chords and accidentals even quicker, but chord mode or the intervals popover are also options. Also, if we just used '3' to add a third you'd still need something else for a minor third.

    • @dorico

      Yes, if you export your score as musicxml you can import that into Dorico. In Dorico > Preferences there are also musicxml import options that you can set first if you wish.

    This software is unusable. When you enter a quarter note and then enter an eighth note immediately after the quarter note, Dorico changes _both_ notes to eighth notes. There appears to be no way to enter notes of different time value.
    I've used notation software since the 1987 Mac Professional Composer, and this is by far the worst piece of musical notation software I've ever seen.

    • @dorico
      @dorico  Před 4 lety +1

      That doesn't normally happen. If the caret is active (press Enter or Shift + N to start the caret) you can then choose note values and pitches and enter whatever you need. If you'd find it useful there is a 'getting started' PDF guide you can download here: blog.dorico.com/2018/09/getting-started-with-note-input/

      Before making final judgments of this type maybe it would be necessary to take the time to tame the software a little ... I did not observe the behavior that you describe (in the pro version) ... I discover the trial version for a few days and I must say that I find this editor extremely well thought out ...
      You may be referring to Logic pro x and its score editor which I adore and master elsewhere ... well I admit that Dorico seems to have everything I like in Apple software ... Dorico's interest is that it also works on Window ...
