  • This military family didn't know notations about mental health that would keep their daughters from enlisting - and that dependent medical records are merged with new active duty medical records.

    This is outrageous. The Army told me when I was in to get mental health treatment and it will not effect my career. However, the Army then turned around a med boarded me after I came back from Iraq. Mental health is the new don’t ask, don’t tell.

    Catch 22, suffer while having a mental health condition, or suffer lost opportunities with a healthy brain.

    If denied to ever join the military and it’s the only career you’ve ever wanted, find job equal to the job you wanted in the military. For example if you’ve only ever wanted to work in the infantry, become a armed/patrol security guard and work your way up to a private military company or a global response staff with the CIA. If there is a will there is always a way. Do not live your life with a limited mindset

    Don’t worry, it’s ok! I was denied reenlistment because my SMSGT didn’t feel I was a “good fit”. Now, 23 years later, I’m making well over 6 figures a yr!

    I just got denied my waiver for the Navy. It went all the way up to the Admiral. I lost more than 40 pounds and got back to my athletic pure form since I had a down year due to working at fast food and having a poor eating schedule and only eating snacks time to time. Thankfully im only 18 years old and I had a Plan B just in case it didn’t work. Yeah it is really soul crushing for people who actually want to join to further their career, do college and also get and take advantage of benefits and become and overrall better character for themselves but life isn’t over im still a little devastated but like my father said to me “life still continues on”. To all those who might feel lost due to being in this same situation i feel you and don’t feel lost in your life. God will have a plan or eventually you make a plan to definitely help you out. I just got news today but i can’t let it kill my spirit keep fighting!! It sucks that a lot of deliquents and junkies get to join and ruin our military reputation and honor. To all those who got rejected it their lost and keep going! Alot of yall are ambitious and smart and want to have a stable future. Keep going!

    that pisses me off so much, I was in the similar position as her daughter but they found borderline glaucoma and eczema in my medical records because my Dad was in the Army and I was a HUGE disadvantage at MEPs against other applicants whose parents were never in the military and had zero records. I have doctor's notes proving i do not have those medical conditions and they still medically disqualified me. I cannot believe they kicked her out while she was in bmt. Well, if the military DOES not want them, then that is their loss, not the daughters.

    @bear1830 Před 2 lety +3

    Yeah, it’s been roughly about 6 months in the waiver process for me. It’s no joke. I went to MEPs and when it came to the physical evaluation I knew I was gonna be asked about my cosmetic chest deformation. It’s purely only a cosmetic thing and has no affect on me at all. I did track field/cross country all my life and had no problems but I knew at MEPs they’d give me a hard time. They asked what it was and I said it was purely cosmetic and I’ve been to 3 different doctors and they all said it was cosmetic. A couple of weeks later, they medically disqualified me for the chest deformation along with other issues I had in the past that I no longer suffer from like social anxiety and apparently they said I had chron’s disease which I never had at all. So for the past 6 six months, two different times I had to provide additional information stating these problems don’t affect me at all and it’s an extremely long drag. Completely unnecessary and ridiculous.

    Interesting, if you don't get tested or ask for help you don't have the label, but can still have the issue or disease, go fig.
    Then again it's asset acquisition and risk avoidance due to known circumstances. Ironically some of the worst culprits of patients or staff refuse to get treatment, as they think their fine and everyone else is the crazy ones. Oh well.

    A friend of mine was thinking about joining the Canadian Armed Forces but they went to therapy in high school for mild anxiety and was diagnosed with GAD, but no longer is affected by their anxiety and has not been in therapy for over four years. I was wondering if anyone knows if this would disqualify them. I read somewhere that there is a limit as to how long someone has to have been out of therapy for the US military, but I don't know if the CAF is similar.
