#Malocclusion is a very common dental problem that usually presents as misaligned or #crookedteeth.
Occlusion means alignment of the upper and lower teeth in relation to each other.
As such, malocclusion, in simple terms, means misaligned teeth.
While crooked teeth are not painful, they can result in difficulty maintaining oral hygiene, speech impediments, breathing issues, poor aesthetic appearance, etc.
Malocclusion may also occur if your upper and lower jaws are not aligned properly.
Malocclusion is usually hereditary or environmental, but in some cases, it can be caused due to poor oral health and hygiene habits.
Misaligned teeth can lead to oral health complications like:
Overbite - It occurs when your upper front teeth protrude or stick out beyond your lower front teeth.
Underbite - It occurs when the bottom teeth extend forward, giving the appearance that the jaw is pushing outward from the mouth.
Crossbite - A crossbite can happen on either or both the sides of the jaw when the upper front teeth are biting right inside the lower teeth.
Overcrowding - Overcrowding is a common condition typically caused due to lack of space resulting from overlapping or crooked teeth.
Misaligned teeth makes it difficult for an individual to perform vital oral functions such as chewing, biting or even speaking
Common signs that indicate malocclusion are:
Poor or abnormal facial appearance or smile
Difficulty in brushing and maintaining dental hygiene
    Foul-smelling breath
    Frequent tongue or cheek bite
    Speech problems
    Difficulty in chewing foods
Poor oral habits like mouth breathing, lip biting
Pain and clicking sound from the jaw
    How can malocclusion be treated?
Malocclusion correction always requires orthodontic treatment. In order to achieve a complete malocclusion treatment, you may need to consult with an orthodontic specialist to analyze the condition of your misalignment.
    Common treatments for malocclusion include:
Dental braces - Braces straighten the teeth and jaw to fix your smile and bite. Depending upon the severity of your malocclusion, your orthodontist might prescribe metal, ceramic or lingual braces.
Aligners/ Invisible aligners - Invisible aligners can treat all sorts of malocclusion. Invisible aligners are clear plastic aligner trays that exert pressure on teeth and jaw for proper alignment.
At Pristyn Care, we have a team of orthodontic doctors who are experts in invisible orthodontics using removable aligners.
Our dental clinics are equipped with cutting-edge technology that helps us diagnose and treat a wide variety of dental conditions including malocclusion of teeth.

What is the term for misaligned teeth whereby top teeth sit flush on top of bottom teeth? Not over or under but directly on top.
