    Also just a detail but from what I've seen 8000 series looks like the same specs but has had interesting power tweaks and generally performs quite a lot better in lower power machines.

      @@GewelReal ETA Prime has a nasty habit of putting out 'reviews' that are effectively an extension of the OEMs marketing arm.
      See the EM680 - their review had different tests in it to their normal, and appeared to be running custom BIOS settings that others couldn't replicate in the real world. That system had a BIOS bug that prevented the APU from using 30w, but max'd out at 15w, instead of 15w cpu/gpu each. They didn't mention that compared to other 6800U devices they'd used, it was massively slower.
      The BIOS has been updated and fixed now, but that wasn't until *months* after that review.
      Not to be trusted, in the slightest.

    GMKTEC still sell the 7840 for about 10 quid less than this one. I'd spend the extra simply to get the hidden improvements you might (only might) get with a new model e.g. USB C PD should work better (improves slightly with each gen) and they might improve the cooling a bit. You don't get any BIOS upgrades with this type of product, so this type of replacement chip, as opposed to an upgrade, might benefit from that as well.
    Good review!

    Crazy idea but NPU can be used to make AI in games better. Ultimately creating a game with *real* difficulty options as the AI learns from its mistake and git gud at trying to defeat you, no need to play sweaty Call of Duty with spicy chats, just do it with the NPU AI in single player game.

    • @vinylSummer
      @vinylSummer Před měsícem +1

      It would need to be an entire new mode though that is hard to code and get right, and not many players will even be able to comfortably play it. Classic AI in games is stupidly hard to do, I don't think really adaptive AI will come out any time soon

    To be fair I would argue that AMDs driver level frame generation works best if you have a 165Hz+ monitor and is able to strike a framerate of around 80fps. I use it for cyberpunk at 1440p native. and it comfortably gets the game into the 120-170fps range... Still waiting for FSR 3.1 in Cyberpunk, will it ever release?

    • @srfeger
      @srfeger Před měsícem +5

      ETA Prime is a YTChannel and a lot of his videos are criticized for not being sufficiently credible and that he's more of a showcase for vendors. There's a fair amount of hate on the guy but if you know that fact when you're watching his videos (he doesn't offer a lot of negatives or criticisms), then you're left with an enjoyable showcase and that's fine too. As for the miniPCs, what's humorous is that when they really started to hit the mainstream a couple of years ago, they were great for emulation and retro gaming and general PC productivity. You could hook these up fairly easy to a TV and have a lot of power for some fun older games. Then, as the miniPCs have become more and more powerful on the graphics side, they're expected to be far more impressive for gaming than they really have the ability to be. Can you play a AAA game on one? Yes. Should you? Well, that's always in the eye of the beholder, but I'd probably pass.
      EDIT: This video makes it pretty clear that there's not much benefit on this newer generation of mobile processors from AMD, so I don't think Iceberg Tech deserves any comparison to ETA Prime. That said, I actually bought a K8 and just received it but haven't set it up yet. I'm curious to see what the BIOS updates from last month do to the device to reduce fan noise and there's some other videos that state that they got better results from using the silent performance mode in the BIOS (which is obviously counter-intuitive). So there's more to dig into this hardware than was presented. But again, comparing this to ETA Prime content is excessive. I thought this video was good.

      If you think that every video he makes on any product is his personal endorsement, you're very wrong - don't project your consumerist mentality onto a channel that just posts benchmarks of various computers. Both Iceberg Tech and ETA Prime are exactly that, and not ad channels. Don't watch the telly
