As a teenager in the 70s it was such a thrill when Queen released an album because you would rush home from the record shop to play it never quite knowing what to expect from it. The music was so varied but so incredible well put together. Not one track ever disappointed me. Hot Space was the biggest surprise but even that grew on me really quickly.

John does not a singer. His lips move but his mic 🎤 is off. Freddie and Brian agreed to cut his mic. Brian did an interview stating this fact.

@@susanechevarria4320 I think his mic was only turned down, not off. I saw a video where Freddie's mic broke while he was in the middle of singing so he used John's which was turned on, only at a lower volume.

One that I never get tired of watching! Everybody has their chance to shine here. John was very shy about singing and using his skills other than the bass. This is one of my absolute favourite Queen performances! Mostly because John finally gets his moment to shine, but I also love the riff and the rhythm of it. I don't usually like prog rock music, but I have to make an exception for this one. Brian's ability to create a good sound despite the minimal structure to the song really speaks to his talent. Hello again, my two favourite Queen reactors! Thank you so much for another great appreciation - I will admit, though, that "Liar" is not one of my top Queen songs. However, as an example of their early work it IS iconic and should be treasured for that. Just as I love "White Queen" but "The March of the Black Queen" not so much! Each to their own. It makes me chortle every time you begin a song, saying it's more up Mrs Coach's alley because of the title or because it starts off like a ballad and then it's "OK, I like this a lot". You see? You can never tell with Queen!

Thank you for yet another great reaction, this time to one of the band's lesser known songs. I love it because each of them gets their own turn in the spotlight. Freddie is incomparable as always, as are Roger and Brian. For once, so did John, who as you said, Coach, can always be relied upon to do his job to perfection, but he's so shy and self-effacing, he only stands out when he has one of his epic bass lines with which to start a song.
Here, however, he gets his own designated solo mid-song. Also, he sang with Freddie, and he did that so seldom that it stands out, and we have the treat of hearing his sweet baritone.

So many more songs for you to work through coach, keep them coming as you are doing a great job and you two are the best reactors out there due to your musical knowledge.

This song is a perfect example why Brian May is an underrated guitarist:
    - on the album version he always plays "serviceable" to the song - no long solos, no showing off, just keep it radio friendly (that long guitar solo is *not* on the album version!).
    - but live he shows what he's capable of, so you have to see his live performances (like this one) to appreciate his skills.

I am Queen fan and love your site. John is an introvert and didn't feel his voice added to the harmonies so he just sang some backup. John has a First Honors degree in Electronics Engineering from Chelsea College. He was only 19 when he joined Queen and Freddie was 24 so he looked out for John as a big brother. He, like Freddie appreciated a variety of music. John ran the business end of Queen and was the only member allowed to take money from the Queen accounts. Freddie once said if God had forsaken them thankfully we have John. We don't do anything without running it by John. He built a state of the art monitor system for their stage and when in college he found some wires hanging out of a dumpster and he used them to make the Deacy Amp which Brian loves and uses it together orchestral sounds from his guitar. John gave it to Brian when he left. Special guy.

Mrs. Coach may find it interesting that it was this time that I first laid eyes on Freddie (and the others, too, but...) and for me, there was nobody else till I got married. I'd never seen anything so beautiful. I was 10! Yeah, I'm old. Love you guys!

Freddie composed this song and he gives all the attention to other members. This song is aĺl about the guitars, bass and drums. Very few lyrics.
BTW, your last reaction back in November 24 was exactly 32 years after Freddie's death (I don't know whether you knew that or just coincidence).

Love this song & performance. Everyone on fire. IMO prefer it over the studio cut.
The Rainbow is another smaller venue much like the Odean. The stage seems too small for their energy.

Ok team. This was one of my last 3 suggestions. Knew you’d like it especially for both the guitars 💥I’ll never let you down. Now for the other 2…. Slow it down for Mrs coach with “one year of love “ & for Mr coach “I want it all “. No live on either of these but bangers nonetheless 🔥🔥🔥I’ll throw you more after these. Of all the reactors you guys are the most pleasing to watch 💗

My favorite from their first album! Apologies for the lengthy comment… Mrs. Coach mentions how ‘weird’ it is to see them in those early days. I think that’s because you’ve recently come into Queen and have been initially exposed to their most popular stuff, the 80s short hair mustachioed tank top stadium playing Queen. To me that era will always be ‘weird’ lol because I came into Queen in these very early days so for me, the true Queen was this long-haired, high heeled, glam rock, hard rockers! And make no mistake even though they had their own somewhat progressive take on things this was essentially a hard rock band that could’ve been mentioned in the same sentence with Black Sabbath and Zeppelin and Deep Purple. I had no use for the electronic Hot Space pop crap of the early 80s lol... at the time I mourned the loss of early Queen… Although I have to say ANY genre of music they tried they did it extremely well. These were four fantastic musicians and the early days really show off that talent… By the way, although this was a single, understand that the masses were not aware of Queen when their first album came out, and I can promise you this song was never on the radio. I myself never even heard the band until Bohemian Rhapsody, which was their fourth album… thanks for a great reaction, Rock on!

I quite like Queen but I would have thought this would have made a terrible single for radio airplay, especially a shortened 3m20s version 😂.
Now coach surely there are some pics of you in huge platform boots & silver pants Mrs Coach could put up 😂
Anyway its time for Steelers❤ v Cardinals

LOL, there may be some childhood photos in checkered pants in the '70s. And I also cannot imagine how to shorten this to around 3 minutes.

Try as well listening to Seven Seas of Rhye (Queen 1973 & Queen II. 1974) BUT the best would be the live version from Wembley 1986

John never sang on studio recordings but he did add his voice to the backup choruses during live performances to add volume. Truth is, he wasn't a great singer (sort of average), especially in comparison to Freddie, Brian, and Brian. Once when asked if he would ever make a solo album, John said no as he admitted he didn't sing.
FYI -“Liar” was Queen’s second single release and was written by Freddie (primarily written by Freddie but Brian claimed he wrote his guitar solo). It was "Liar" that inspired the inception of the pronunciation that a song’s ultimate credit would be based on its originator or lyricist. Of course, in the later years, they decided that all songs, no matter who originally brought the song to the group or who wrote the lyrics, would be credited to "QUEEN " so the group shared equally in the royalties..
Over the years, they had lots of arguments about who got the credit (since each member of Queen almost always had some input in the production of the songs). But, the person who got the writing credit got the royalties so there would often be major disagreements over who should get the credit. (Little known fact, though Freddie made a pile of money off of the royalties for the writing of the song Bohemian Rhapsody, Roger made just as much. Roger's song "I'm In Love With My Car" was on the B-side of the record and the royalties were split 50/50.)
When "Liar: was released as a single, Elektra Records relegated the 6:27 epic track to just over 3 minutes, which did not exclude the tribal sequence beginning with, “Listen, are you going to listen? Mama, I’m gonna be your slave…”
All or most Queen shows prior to their 1977 tour for their album News of the World would feature this song, often as a 10-minute closing number showcasing an extended solo by bassist John Deacon.

This was thier first song released in the States but they hated it and distanced themselves from it because it was chopped up so badly to fit the three minute single status, the song is much longer than that, it bombed badly. I got the single here in the UK not that long ago and it is a mess. Thier record execs had a lot to answer for in thier early days

Couple of short ones from Wembley 1986 Friday and Saturday evening Rock And Roll Medley you'll see its slightly different, and impromptu by Fred again something they did at concerts.
The Montreal concert is actually better when you have both Roger and Sir Brian narrating, they go through songs, where they came from who's doing what and why, the tapes from the couple of nights there have been cleaned up, they also talk you through the music videos, have you got an email address and I'll forward you the links
