    ERHU LESSONS IN ENGLISH!
    Great video, please keep this up. I have been trying to learn to play the erhu, but resources in English are sorely lacking.
    I had been struggling to reach the correct note with my fourth finger, I realize now that it was because I was keeping my first and second fingers on the strings too, so thanks for that tip in particular.

    To clarify, those are the D string (Re) and A string (La). He says Do and Sol to specify in a more clear matter the five note gap between the two.

    i have wanted to learn how to play the erhu for a long time. even though i’m not chinese, this instrument has always spoken to me and i find it to be the most beautiful. however, i have no background with a music instrument (only a few piano lessons as a child). would it be impossible to learn how to play the erhu without any musical background? are there things you recommend learning before trying to learn to play an erhu itself?

    Just curious, for music sheet, C = Do, D= Re, E= Mi etc..., why for Erhu D = Do? Is it due to the Pentatonic scale? I heard that Chinese musical instruments is based on musical scale with five notes per octave. I am going to learn the Erhu.

    Hi, Greetings from Anglesey. Wales UK.Thank you for a very informative vieo.I notice you are left handed as i am .(Unless the vioeo is inverted). Do you string the Erhu oposit to a right handed person , making it a mirror image to play or string it the same way and use the bowing technique reversed to compensate ? Thanks in advance.

    Thanks for your detail explanation about playing notes with Erhu but the last three notes such as La Thi and Do still confuse me. You mentioned that these notes are played in similar with Do, Re and Me but only moving the bow towards outer string. Can please help me to further explain me again to clarify it better.
    Well done and please keep it up!

      Chinese music uses numbered notation for reading music instead of the staff so do re mi... would shift depending on the key of the scale or music.

  • @alphonsechanekayebone7871

    Do you play the scale on one or two strings?

    • @dotstermfs
      @dotstermfs Před 2 lety

      He is starting on the D string then moves to the A string and staying in first position, but you could play the whole scale on the D string if you shifted to 2nd position. The timbre will vary, but it's a common technique with stringed instruments if that's the sound you are going for. Basically what he is doing here though is playing an open note on the inner string (the D string, which is closest to your body) then he plays the second note with his first finger about an inch down from the qianjin (which is like a sort of capo that you might use on a guitar), then the 3rd note is played by placing your middle finger another inch down from your first, then then 4th note is played by placing your ring finger pretty close but not quite touching your middle finger. After that he shifts the bow to "rub" against the opposite string with no fingers touching the strings and you just repeat everything above just like you played on the D string except on the A string. So he is essentially playing 4 notes on one string then 4 notes on the other string to complete the scale.
