Any man can dig a ditch, but it takes a real man to build a bridge The hole is a metaphor for isolation, or to put yourself into a horrible situation. Anyone can isolate themselves from the world, and make decisions to their detriment, but it takes a real load of courage to work your way out of the situation Edit: Took a creative writing elective this year that had a unit in poetry. Damn the "quotation marks incident" took me back.. I took a class in poetry in college, and the teacher used to say it was wrong of us to assume you need prior information on the author's backstory to understand a poem, everything you need to know is in the text. So she would ask stuff like: "What does the author mean with X?" And I would be like: "because of the wording, it sounds like he means Y", and she would correct me: "Oh no, to understand this you actually have to know that he moved houses a lot as a child and that his dad used to beat him up". I quit right after that.
Idk if you know who he is but the animation of him hitting the desk wile saying that (p.s. It was funny I loved that part to) reminded me of sir pilo when he freaks out and hits the desk with both hands
the puzzle is "it takes a man to dig a ditch, but it takes a real man to fill it" in Stephen King's book "pet sematary" (yes that's how the book spells it) a man digs a hole, but doesn't have enough dirt to fill it. This point is stated and restated throughout the book and i believe it is very poetic
For the albatross one, if you don’t wanna read it, basically he was trapped on an island with his wife and another guy, when his wife died, the man on the island fed him Albertoss he liked it, later they were saved, and the man wanted albetross again, but when he had it, he realized it tasted different and he realized the guy fed him his dead wife, he jumped off the bridge in guilt.
As someone who is friends with teachers, I still keep it professional and talk to them outside of their classes as well as never using their first name. I mean really, they're much older than me so the least I can do is respect them as an elder by adding a "Ms." or "Mr." to their name. Also I never even knew that poetry class was a thing because we always had to do Language Arts Literacy (LAL) and we hardly ever get to the parts of the book where we would read poems from there (which I like). So I would read those poems while the rest of the lesson was going on because I already read ahead of the story we were talking about.
The one you said actually kinda makes sense(anyone can dig a ditch, but it takes a real man to call it home) because it sounds like it's telling you to be Grateful for what you have

Anyone can dig a ditch, but it takes a real man to lie in it. Reasoning: Death is inevitable and it takes a real man to realize that. Digging the ditch represents his life, and lying in it represents his acceptance of the inevitable end.

Here's the answer to the lateral thinking puzzle: "Anyone can dig a ditch, but it takes a real man to dig a hole in the water." The key to this puzzle is thinking creatively and realizing that "digging a hole in the water" is not a literal action but a metaphor for doing something challenging or seemingly impossible. It suggests that real men are willing to take on difficult tasks or face unconventional challenges.
