I don’t understand some of these comments, Jimmy Cliff is on of the fathers of Reggae, it would not be what it is today but for his work. Cat Stevens wrote this and Jimmy gently moulded it to his style.
@@Mog435 Songwriters don't always interpret their own songs the best. In fact, I feel the same about lots of Cat Stevens' songs because I don't think he was a great, dynamic performer.

do you not realize even in *those* days their voices were altered with a computer.. definitely not as bad as the autotune these days.. but most definitely they were tuned up to sound much better than they actually are.
Cat Stevens wrote it, didn't want to release it, gave it to Jimmy Cliff, produced it for him, but later on recorded it himself for the American public and was a giant hit and was later on covered by Mr. Big and was a big hit as well.
I grew up with this song hearing it everywhere for years, being a rockperson, but it always gets in my head, when there's something on the news, rembering it is a wild world. It is also the first reggae minded artist, before we knew the 'reggae' word, for all i know anyway. Had long ago an 'obscure' Keith Richards single, with the New Babarians called The harder they come, a J.C song. We used it for parties, a special surprice , for it was very hard to get.

What the heck?! You don’t know Jimmy?! You don’t know Jimmy???? This Jimmy . Since the beginning, been playing so long and still playing….. pay attention
There is something about the music, arrangement, I don’t know, that reminded me of A Day In The Life. Maybe it was the bass. Then I saw your comment. Yeah, something very Beatleish.

I've always loved this version. Reminds me of my early adolescence, when you are just working out who you are. Great cover by Mr. Cliff👍

I was doing my version in the sun this afternoon while doing work on a van . Must say Jimmy is better than me . 😂

The Cat copied his style and got rich and famous.

Taranberk2; it's by far the best version of this song. Jimmy Cliff was only 22 years old

Yup, he gave it to Jimmy.. and unfortunately his version flopped hard.. so Cat said "hold my beer" and showed everyone who the big dog was.
Don't know where it flopped, this did great in africa and other countries. Jimmy cliff was amazing in the day
My favorite version of his song...Takes me to my childhood days
My 14years!!
Is vy nice indeed, but don't forget who originally wrote it, & played it to awesome perfection too!
I saw Jimmy Cliff for the first time in concert about 4 years ago. He was incredible. A great songwriter too.

The bassist plays like he was the bassist for the Beatles.. that's how It sounds to me...if there's a style of bass playing that way?
