    Bought this 3 years ago. I used it to shoot in the rain. It’s full weather seal. Perfect to used without worry in the rain. Video quality in 1080 full hd is stunning! Only downside is the low light performance, well at this price point we cannot expect too much. Overall it’s a very good camera especially you like to shoot outdoor in the elements.

    Every December, a local model railroad club has an installation in the conservatory at my local botanical garden. Over 10 years, I have used every Olympus 4/3rds lens I own up to a 300-600 equivalent.
    Last week I did my first shoot with my new FZ-80 and I found out that I used a bunch of focal lengths from 20-415mm (equiv). Once you are free of any limits, you can find out what focal lengths are useful in a particular situation.
    BTW, outdoors everything I shot was under 120mm except for a large egret size bird which I shot at a little over 500mm equiv.

      I bought one last week and took it out for a trial run. The picture quality was nothing special but the 4k was utterly horrific. Not to mention how unnecessarily complicated it was to do things like shift the point of focus, which is rarely something I need anyway. It just looked terrible compared to my gopro10 footage, which has such amazing stabilization u can walk with it and hardly notice any up down movement. Plus it was massive and heavy. I usually use my gear for bike packing. This is way too big. I've decided to go for the Sony zv1 which light years ahead of this relic of the past. Having such a small sensor on such a big camera just doesn't make sense these days. Maybe good for extreme close ups/ wildlife. That's it.

    What really holds me back from buying this or similar cameras, is the open zoom mechanism. I usually take pictures outside in the nature, and i'm worried about getting dust or anything in it.
    Old Lumix cameras were a bit shorter in zoom range, but the whole optics were in a closed tube. Much more healthy, in my opinion.
    Do you know any kind of solutions for such cameras? To keep the moving parts as closed as possible. Or just an other brand which takes this problem differently.
    Nice review btw, thank you for your work!

    Great overview of the FZ300. I am a hiker on my 3rd bridge camera. Replacing a Fuji HS 50 EXR (42X 24-1000mm zoom) because the LCD screen broke & costs $200. for Fuji to repair it. The Fuji has such precise composing because the focus/zooming ring is on the lens itself, as if it were a DSLR. How accurate is the composing when using a zoom button? Do you find it frustrating?

    • @TrailAesthetics
      @TrailAesthetics  Před 5 lety +1

      Mike Buccola the focus wheel is a fly by wire....so it’s not as precise and fast as a good manual lens. It’s not for run and gun focusing. It works well when you need manual focus on a pinch. I use the autofocus 98% of the time.

    It's a really great camera feature wise and ergonomically and I'm sure most are great.

    • @TrailAesthetics
      @TrailAesthetics  Před 6 lety

      ripper9111 it should work well if your using a tripod. Any camera may struggle trying to track small objects like birds or model planes. If the skies are clear it should work ok since it uses contrast detection for focusing vs phase detections. If it’s a cloudy day contrast focus could struggle. Look into getting a tripod gimbal to help steady your shots as well.

But if you use the camera with that flash fir everyday use it is awesome. Cranking the ISO won't help because it is to noisy. Not recommended if your using it to make money with your concert photos.

      the sensor in the FZ300 is 1/2.3" This is one of the smallest sensors used in mirror-less cameras and is NOT ideal for low light conditions. with that being said...it has excelled in every other category for me. i love the fixed apeture F2.8...so it is a relatively fast lens with decent shallow depth of field. the 600MM zoom gives good reach to practically touch the wildlife. it utilizes 4K burst which i personally used to literally freeze humming birds in flight. the 4K is tack sharp. i heavily use the internal time-lapse all the time. this is by far the BEST consumer camera for the money. it is ideal for a person looking for a good, universal camera for all occasions. thanks for the input on the bulb. i would not personally use this for astro photography or night time-lapse...just not the best sensor for those occasions.

      Pablo Talavera the FZ300 is better all around. It’s has a 2.8F through the entire zoom range. It’s has a touch screen, the Nikon does not. It has 4K burst mode . It is also wireless to transfer pictures straight to a smart phone for quick uploads. It also has built in time lapse that converts to video internally.

    Can somebody please tell me if this camera is better than an iPhone 10 as a daily vlogging camera. I have both of them but I just can’t help thinking that the iPhone is better. Even though this one is bigger, I just don’t know enough to know so with some camera knowledge I’m sure one of you could tell me why it is or it is not

      The only con to using your iphone as a vlogging camera is it doesnt have the zoom range as the FZ300. if you want a universal camera system for both photography and video ina small compact package then the FZ300 will run circles around a iphone 10

      Trail Aesthetics Thank you so very very much for answering this. I’m really just trying to stay focused on my real job but I really have a interest in making sure that what I do put out is valuable. I realize that I can compromise and use the iPhone X but there’s just got to be something said about having a dedicated camera. I don’t know about sensors or anything but I have a feeling in low light it should be better too. But when I try to do a comparison on since your sizes I’m not sure where I saw it but it looks like the iPhone was better to. But what the hell do I know

      well...if you want to vlog with your phone i'm going to give you one piece of advice that other vloggers eff up on all the time. Get a steady gimbal for your iphone so your footage is smooth as butter when walking. i cant tell you how many times i stop watching vlogs because of the vlogger hand holding their phones and everything is shaky. Get a gimbal for the iphone. i would suggest the Zhiyun Smooth-Q 3-Axis Gimbal: amzn.to/2BDY6vT

      Youll get more bang for the buck with the FZ300 over the GX85 or GX850. The FZ300 has a range of 24MM to 600MM so you can reach the farthest without carrying extra lens. The FZ300 has a flip out screen for vlogging or selfie mode...the GX80 doesnt have a flip out screen. You will get everything you need for close up shots and telephoto shots all in one. All for $500. its a no brainer..the FZ300 is by far the best value for a consumer grade camera.Panasonic FZ300 4K camera: amzn.to/2BFLeoU

      Paul Germaine actually that’s not true. There is a sensor that makes the screen go dark when your eye comes in contact with the view finder. Prevents that very issue from occurring.

      @@dragonfist25 The images were very grainy. Especially when zoomed out all the way. It has a tiny sensor, so its not good in low light. I got this to set up as a web cam and the quality of the 1080p video was no better than my Logitech C920. In my opinion, the C920 is trash. My biggest issue was the 4k video looked horrible. That and it only records 4k in MP4 format. My capture card doesn't support MP4, so it was useless to me in that respects. It claims to be 25-600 at an aperture of f/2.8. A 600 mm lens with an F 2.8 aperture would be HUGE. Now, I must say that I am a complete snob when it comes to equipment and my main camera is a Sony A7III. Check this clip out and it can explain the aperture far better than I could in my own words. czcams.com/video/27leThF4uRk/video.html
