If you have ANY questions about the Kunglseden, winter hiking, hiking with dogs etc put them down below! I'll make a nice QandA to tie up the series :)
Hi Maiu, I started watching your channel when you began your hike across Estonia. Finding that you have not posted in over year feels like trying to call an old friend and finding out that they have not answered the phone in over a year. You have the right to post as you wish, but it would be nice if you did a one minute video saying that you are OK and saying goodbye or that you are taking a long break. Clearly, you made it home to edit and post this video, so why did you stop posting? Are you OK.?
@@SteveZ1 Hi Steve! Thank you for your concern! Yeah, I thought of making a follow-up video, but couldn't push myself making it. I don't have passion for editing and making videos anymore, so that's the reason my channel is quiet.
The socio-dynamics of a CZcams creator-follower relationship are interesting. You know nothing of me yet I have had the privilege of watching you grow from watching your videos. I have not pursued my own channel because of my desire for privacy and maybe a fear of crewel comments. I have spent 6 days straight in the mountains alone and loved it yet I have a fear of rejection that has prevented me from expressing what I have to say on CZcams. Silly Me. Thank You Maiu, for your time, hard work, and your bravery. I say this on behalf of all the people that have enjoyed your videos. I'm in Seattle now, but If I sail to Estonia in the next couple of years, maybe we could get a bite to eat and tell a few stories. Peace .
What A story! Would love to have a follow up on what gear worked and didn't work. A lessons learned type of video. Anyways personally I don't care for Trangias in winter hiking. For my whole military career used to melt snow with trangians and it was always painfully slow. Now days I run noisy MSR XGK ex for melting snow.
you've got one talented sleddog there. its quite funny. years ago i dreamed of doing a 500km hike with my dog and while researching for it i watched your video with luna on hiking with dogs. i got into sleddogs as well, and work at a kennel in finnish lapland. now i see that you have gone in the same directon!
Thank you young lady for sharing your adventures with us. You have gone places I could not imagine going, at least not now, maybe 35 years ago. You definitely have my respect and admiration for taking on the challenges that you have undertaken. Best wishes from Texas USA. Good luck on your future adventures wherever they may take you. God bless you and your family and I hope you will be safe in your current location. Cannot wait for the next adventure.
Congrats on stepping out of your comfort zone and managing all the challenges of your journey. I enjoy your spirit immensely. Your puppies are amazing. I have a not-so-popular question perhaps, but I'm planning to do some back country winter travel into wilderness area pulling a pulk sled and trying to plan for this aspect ... how do you manage pooping in the sub-freezing, snow, and follow Leave No Trace principles? I'm evaluating WAG bags and methods to use them (haha). Also do you find skins are better than waxless skis for pulling a pulk uphill?
@@MaiuLunekund I'm planning on hiking the north half of the appalachian trail starting next April. ( Idid the first half this year ). Care to join me? It is only 1100 miles.
This was a truly epic journey. I'm so glad you posted this, so we could all experience it too. I would love to try something like this one day, but I would not have made it to the end alive. Well done, and thanks for sharing. This is one of the best things I have ever seen.
Well done Maui, Linkka, and Odezza!!! Amazing!!! I only noticed in this video that Linkka had boots on her paws, when did she start wearing, and what was the reason? And also, which boots did she wear? Did you get a certificate or anything like that to say you have completed the Kungsleden?
Always enjoy watching your adventures. You and your precious dog are in my prayers. God Bless!!! Kippy James from Grayson Kentucky United States of America!!!
I have LOVED this adventure and your story-telling Maiu, thank you. So many ups and downs, for you, for the dogs and in reality, through the landscape, it was so beautiful. I have a question for the Q&A: when things feel bleak and you are really asking yourself 'why?', what is your self-talk in this moment? How do you move through it and past it?
Hey Maiu, I've just come across this video. I met you on Singi in April (?) 2022! I had my greenland dog Tjaktja with me and we stayed in the same cabin. :D I was just having some time off from work as a dogsledding guide/musher near Kiruna. I don't know if you remember me, but it doesn't matter. I just wanted to reach to you and say hello. :D I hope you are doing well! That Kungsleden of your's was an epic journey, well done!
I really liked this series, you filmed and edited it all together very well! 😊👏 For the Q&A video, how did your dogs get along in the hike and how are they doing now? If you could change anything or have a doover on that hike what would it be? In conclusion how much did it cost for you? What adventure would you like to do next? Do you always like to have adventures alone or you would like to have sometimes human companions also? 😃
Such an awesome effort to complete this adventure. Monumental undertaking. Thank you for sharing with us, both the highs and lows. Absolute gorgeous smiles at the last camp! Stay happy.
Hi Maiu, it was real treat to follow your journy. I'm thinking about somethink similar maybe with snowshoes. Can you, please, explain little bit your budget? Maybe it would be nice video:). It looks like it was almost spring, were you happy with the weather condition or would you rather start couple weeks earlier? looking forward to your next adventure
For the Q&A, I admit I'm fascinated by the practicalities - what dates did you go (for the weather) was the -30 sleeping bag ok or too warm, what were the lowest temperatures, would you have made any changes with gear, would you have done this hike without dogs, what would you do differently if you went again and so on! I'm asking because I started winter hiking a couple years ago ( I think I was also inspired by your Fjallraven videos!), and there is a plateau in my country that people say is the perfect training/testing place for nordic countries winter hiking, because it is supposed to have similar conditions and terrain, but these few years the temperatures have always been unusually high, like -5 to 5 degrees in feb, only one time I had -10, so I feel like I haven't been able to properly test my winter gear yet! And I want to plan a similar trip some day, ever since I read a story about a winter hike in the polar circle on a hiking forum, but it's scary to plan a long hike in a far place in conditions you've never experienced before, so I'm collecting everything I can learn for people's stories. Thank you so much for these videos, they were so good!
For the Q and A. For those that are eager to winter hike and perhaps travel with sled dogs - where would you suggest to start as a beginner, someone with little to no experience - what key resources and or courses should they look into, what should they consider, which direction would you point them? I realise that this is a very open ended question but I’d love to hear your suggestions from someone with experience to someone who isn’t quite sure where to start. 😊
Hey Maiu, I really enjoyed your Winterkungsleden Series, I hiked the Kungsleden in the summer and now you've really inspired me to try to hike to the Kungsleden in winter as well ! Do you think it is possible without any previous experience in winter hiking? What do you think one should prepare most for? Is it possible to do it on your own? Did you ever feel really scared or in danger? P.S. I really fell in love with Linka and Odessa;)
Hi Helen! I believe going for the full Kungsleden without any previous winter camping experience isn't advised as there are sections without any connections to roads, no cabins and even no reception. I do not think its wise to go to these parts alone without proper winter knowledge. What I would recommend for you to do is to hike the Abisko-Nikkaluokta section, there you can sleep in huts every night, and that would make a huge difference in the safety part. And if you feel comfortable, you can skip the huts and tent next to them or even on the trail if weather is good! But to have the safety of the huts is really good in case the weather turns and you need to stay inside to wait it out. Another section, if you wish to go longer, is Abisko-Saltoluokta or even Abisko- Kvikkjokk! This way you always have the safety of the huts :) For preparation, go hiking and camping in winter! And train to pull a sled, the trail can be ruthless in the uphills ;)
I'm gonna answer this one right away - great value for the price! One little plastic piece fell off at the start, but that didn't make any difference actually. Looking at the prices for other shovels, then I do not see the need to "upgrade" :)
If you have ANY questions about the Kunglseden, winter hiking, hiking with dogs etc put them down below! I'll make a nice QandA to tie up the series :)

hi, really nice video and nice experience! When did you go? This winter I want to do it too, solo, from Abisko to Saltoluokta.
How did you charge your devices
What is your favorite trick, or piece of equipment, to use for winter camping/trekking?
How well did the AceCamp aluminum shovel hold out? I know it's not an exciting piece of gear but for winter a good shovel is not optional...
