my beagle is the best hiking buddy. apart from occasional problems with herding dogs or feral dogs crossing your road (pack of feral dogs are worse than pack of wolves) with herding dogs, they are chilled out unless you try cutting the herd. feral packs are basically wolves in the woods. they will actually try attack your dog as food. them being dogs, does not have natural scare for human.

I don't understand the purpose of the video. The dog was just too tired to walk so long distances. In addition, the dog's legs are much smaller than the humans' and this makes their life much more difficult while walking.

7:05 Several years ago I was cycle touring in Romania, out in the country side, far far from even large towns, and at a pensiunea I was asked by a member of staff if I was lonely. I'm pretty sure she meant was I alone and just used the wrong word, English was not her first language, so understandable. Although I was on a bicycle and not walking I felt the same as you, how could I feel lonely here!? It's wonderful here!

Great vid. About 3/4 way through you used a water purifier. Some good news; no need. The back country rivers (and especially tributaries) in NZ are pure, wholesome, and germ free. If you are in a farmed area, there may be gardia and other gut-wrenchers. But the back country is pure water.

I have a rough collie/border collie mix and she is always super happy on a hike! She's so energetic so I'm always the one who's the most tired. She could go all day but we don't because I don't want to overwork her and I wouldn't be able to do that myself either. I honestly only hike because I get to do that with her. Without my dog I would have no reasons to hike. My mother has a small poodle mix and she (the dog) gets tired way faster and wouldn't be able to go as far and as long as my collie so I think the breed matters a lot in this case.

In my experience, the more I drink, the more liquid is in my body which makes me more cold. If I drink normally instead of excessive like you said that I’m fine. The key is to just drink normally. And if you eat excessively before you go to sleep, you will wake up multiple times to urinate, because it will press on your bladder.

Was lucky enough to finally visit Doubtful Sound in December of last year and it was incredible. The weather was cold and raining which meant many waterfalls. Both Doubtful Sound and Milford Sound are amazing, but there was just something extra special about Doubtful Sound and the whole experience.

I normally go camping in size 8 German para boots, I wanted to go camping in the winter and remenbered you saying to get bigger boots, I ended up buying size 13 German para boots. It's going to take alot of insoles and socks to fill them up and I'll probably gain an inch in height, IF, I can walk in them. lol Ps. Haven't seen you on Facebook or CZcams for a while, hope you are keeping well.

The easiest thing would be if you have high boots to just tuck trousers in, yet I understand that gaiters are higher and even with trousers tucked they offer quite nice amount of protection, that is why I came here to check your tutorial😊

I have 2 dogs. My girl is super dog friendly and my boy is a bit timid and barky at dogs. So i understand having a less dog friendly dog. I find it more of a challenge balancing the needs of both my dogs when other dogs are around because Pablo gets so upset and loud. It stresses me out. On top of watching Lexi and other dogs around. I prefer taking them both to areas with just us, not other dogs. I try and be responsible and keep my dogs on lead. It scares me when others don't especially because Pablo is such a small and yappy timid boy. I really love dogs but i hate when other dogs owners don't respect that Pablo and I don't enjoy strangers or strangers dogs approaching us
