    Space Harrier on Turbografx is legit. I never got Space Harrier and I never played it in arcade, tried it on genesis and was terrible. For some reason this Turbo version I had a lot of fun with. Also Ys is epic, I had no history with it till this mini... I am into book 2 now and this game is utterly amazing and will be in my top 10. Definitely, a 9 or 10 out of 10 game.

    You know you're old when you remmember walking through the mall in the 90s and seeing the TG16 playing on a TV in front of Radio Shack. I had one in high school and enjoyed it a lot. Would love to add this to my mini collection, but $200 shipped to Canada is a deal breaker for me unfortunately. Best to just enjoy the collection through a raspberry pi.

    You went pretty hard on Moto Roader. Once you figure out that you have to change the controle scheme to mode B in the shop, your car handles much better. The upgrades and weapons that you buy for you car with the prize money of each race add a fair amount of depth. Plus, it's a great 5 player game...

    • @VBshredder
      @VBshredder Před 4 lety

      Yup we had tons of fun with that game in multiplayer as teenagers racing each other, always one poor bastard slow and getting warped complaining constantly lol - 5 player was unheard of at the time. But I can see how sitting by yourself it could appear lame.

    • @Sinn0100
      @Sinn0100 Před 4 lety +2

      Wait...really?! I played Moto Roader just to say I tried them all before really getting into the machine. Within maybe 2 minutes I was completely done with it. I thought "Why would they put this pile of garbage on this beautiful machine?" Admittedly I said the exact same thing about JJ & Jeff but after watching someone play it via a walkthrough I found out what I was doing wrong. Now it's not so bad...it's not oh my God amazing but it is definitely enjoyable. I will check out Moto Roader again tonight after I change its controls.
      Thank you for sharing this information. Most people tend to rage about these kinds of things or relegate those who failed to figure out the problem too the stupid pile. I'm now hopeful it will be a fun experience. Everything appears to be present...kind of like an RC Pro Am meats Twisted Metal.

    Great Reviews Vic! Was just thinking what extra games should have been on the North American Turbografx release, which could replace the unplayable Japanese games. Heres my list
    1) Bonk 3
    2) Legendary Axe
    3) Legendary Axe 2
    4) Riot Zone

    9) Hit the Ice

    • @GiordanDiodato
      @GiordanDiodato Před 4 lety

      here's the reasons:
      1. That's considered the worst of the Bonk games
      2 & 3. Couldn't do because of JVC being a bunch of cunts about licensing.
      4. I wanna say because Westone's properties are in licensing limbo... minus Wonder Boy
      5. Yeah, I dunno why
      6. Japanese version is based on an anime, meaning licensing issues up the ass.
      7. Data East property and is likely in licensing limbo
      8. Might be licensing issues.
      9. Might be licensing because it was owned by Williams Entertainment in NA and it could have been bought up by Warner.

    Been playing my TG-16 mini a lot this weekend and LOVE it. Pleasantly surprised at how high quality of a console it was.
    The Super NES for much of my life was my favorite gaming console (Switch has overtaken it), but one thing it never did well was shooters, outside of a few exceptions (Axelay, Darius Twin, UN Squadron). Gradius III was almost unplayable due to the slowdown/slog. TG-16 has excellent shooters with amazing graphics, challenge and music. Lords of Thunder, R-Type, Salamander, etc. are all amazing.
    Excited to dive deep into Ys 1&2, Bonk is right up there with Mario and Sonic in platforming greatness, Ninja Spirt is amazing, Rondo of Blood might have overtaken Super Castlevania 4 as my favorite in the series, just a lot of fun titles.
    Sure, there are some duds. The racing games are outdated and not much fun, I prefer NES or Neo Geo golf to this golf game, I don't get JJ and Jeff, and some of the Japanese titles I was excited to play (mainly Snatcher) are unplayable due to the language, which is too bad.
    But overall, this is right up there with the NES mini, SNES mini and Genesis mini for excellent mini consoles. Definitely worth the money.

    No “Devil Crush”... this is a massive shame. Alien Crush is ok, except there’s no scrolling. Instead, the screen flips between the upper and lower part of the pinball field, which is really off-putting. I don’t really get the “Bonk” games at all... especially the visuals. I don’t think they make the best of the hardware.
    In general, most of these games feel like arcade games... i.e. designed primarily to swallow your quarters by spamming you with as much as the screen can handle. It’s quite a contrast to what I played on Mega Drive and SNES back in the day, where many games were a lot more forgiving. Also, quite a lot of them don’t have any parallax scrolling, so end up looking more like 8-bit games.
    At 06:57 ... um ... what is that guy doing to that lamp post?

    Hey Vic, I heard a rumour that there are no plans to sell this system in Canada and Amazon won't ship it here. Any idea how I can get one here in Vancouver? Or should I just come to your place and play yours 😆? Thanks!

    Great videos. Love the old school superhero game series. But I think you're looking at splatterhouse wrong. You're playing it as though it were a beat em up when it's not really. Punch out was a pattern recognition and reflex game with a boxing overlay. This is similar. More about finding the patterns and reflexes than a straight beat em up. And the story is a a guy and his girlfriend go to her professor's mansion for blah blah blah, he's a devil worshiping scientist conducting some experiments to whatever, and he kills Rick (Jason voorhees) but an ancient incan mask housing an evil spirit makes a deal with him to possess his body because a video game has to happen and a princess needs rescuing.

    Two 8-bit CPU's my friend. Whereas the Genesis had a 16-bit processor and an 8-bit co-processor. Whoa...I'm a fan of Ghouls N' Ghosts for the Genesis. It was bar none the best thing graphically to hit in 1989 in the US (console). As much as it pains me too say the Super Grafx version on this mini console is a better port. Now, could the Genesis match it pound for pound? Absolutely, but this particular port was made with more ROM and why it looks a bit better.

    Ginga Fukei Densetsu Sapphire is not the most expensive game that distinction goes to Magical Chase and second would be Bonk 3: Bonk's Big Adventure. Seeing that they added in Japanese games on the mini it would have been nice to have the Japanese version of J.J. & Jeff, known in Japan as Kato-chan & Ken-chan. It has different mechanics as well as different characters. It's not Motorader it's MotoRoader but yes it isn't a very good game.

    If you are going to make a video then at least fact check before you make them. The turbo grafx 16 had a 16-bit graphics processor, and could do 16-bit games that were not even possible on a 8-bit console. Most of the games would be impossible to do on a 8-bit nes for example. The turbo grafx 16 processor was even more powerful than what the snes had. Snes was only 3.6 MHz and the turbo grafx 16 was a massive 7.16MHz. Most shoot em ups found on the turbo would stop to a crawl on the snes.
    And splatterhouse is not a beat em up! Its an action game.

    So I am very happy you gave the tg-16 mini a 9, I have few issues and corrections with the things you said. Number 1, though the tg-16 had an 8-bit Cpu it is blazing fast. 7.16 Mhz, twice as fast as the Snes. It also had a 21-bit data bus while the Snes and Genesis had only 16. Furthurmore it could display more on screen colors than the Snes and Genesis combined. So enough with saying it couldn't keep up with the Snes or Genesis. In fact many games that were on all three systems the pc engine had the better conversion, games like cadash and ninja gaiden. Next Alien crush was made by Naxat not Hudson. Next to say Bonk's Revenge was like a NES I have to assume you smoked crack when you played it because there is no NES game that ever looked that good. Your Spriggan 2 review is laughable. And no one in the world thinks the supergrafx version of ghouls and ghosts is worse than the genesis version. Anyhow just stop spreading the ignorance about the Tg 16. One reason why the Tg-16 didn't catch on in america is because Nintendo illegal told third party developers they woould not allow them to put their games on the Snes if they put it on the tg 16. The courts ruled against them in 1993 but by then it was too late.
