Awesome brother . Sharing this on my page for those who wish to learn 🙏🏽
Woooo that’s way up the coast. Ok brother I am going to come catch up with you before our next creating space event in Wanganui brother. What’s your movements late November/early December? Is that a good time ?
@ Yeah then would work, but don't feel that you have to - I was only asking as you had previously mentioned that you were keen to come up. One other thing is that I'm only a weekend warrior, I have to work during the week dammit!!!
Hey mate! Good videos! Just started watching your videos recently and it’s channels like yours that is making me save up for diving equipment and get out there and give it a go
Thats awesome! Remember that you don't need all the flashest gear, good second hand gear works a treat and gets you out there, I started with gear cobbled together from all sorts of places - most of it had been extensively pre loved but it still did the job! Cheers!!!
Cool tips, it would be awesome to see this theory put to the test in an area you have never fished, dived (not your local) or seen on a sounder before as an experiment. I travel all over NZ kayak fishing including freshwater and find different areas require a different approach. I love my fish finder and use it to hunt fish with jigs yet not so much in the shallows against the coast. Have fished without one plenty of years but prefer to use one, besides its a tool in the tackle box and no different to a mechanic these days who uses much more high tech gear (computer plug in to vehicle) than the good old feeler gauges and timing by ear :-)
Yeah I get what you are saying but these tips were put to the test during the first 4 years of my kayak fishing where I was on too much of a tight budget to afford a fishfinder, and that is the point of this video. It is not about it being better not to have a fish finder - more like a few tips for those who are just getting started kayak fishing and have budget constraints preventing them from affording a fish finder....Cheers!!!
Yep the back is feeling pretty good now, I think that I need to use the paddle kayak more as I get more core exercise paddling than what I do pedaling... Cheers!!!
Being in the far north does make it pretty easy! there are generally more fish around up here as there is a fair bit less fishing pressure...All the techniques will work elsewhere tho. .Cheers!!!
Kerry Flowers Kayak Fisherman yep I used to holiday in the far north every summer but alas after starting our own business in Dannevirke, we haven’t been for about 4 years. I miss it terribly it’s almost like a religion. Great vids keep it up
I guess you are from England then? your lads played bloody well against us in that semi final last week, totally deserved the win! Good luck for the final...Cheers!!!
Hey Kerry been watching heaps of your vids doing awesome man looking forward to more content... Also I'm heading up to my dads place in doubtless bay pretty new to the area have a little staticraft, Keen to target some kingys is there anywhere you'd recommend going, launching from mangonui Harbour? Cheers mate love your work 👌
I'm not using scent here, sometimes when the fishing is really slow switching to scented baits can make a difference but generally I find the unscented ones work just as well...Cheers!!!
Wow, here in Perth Australia snapper legal size is 50cm and 2 per fisher a day. Plus we have a closed season from Sept 1st till Jan 29th for snapper spawning which was bought in by recreational fishos after a big snapper kill here. Think yourself lucky there
Yeah we are very fortunate here, we are allowed 7 per person per day and the minimum size is 30cm (nose to the fork of the tail) I do think that there is a good argument to have a closed season while spawning takes place but it is unlikely to happen as snapper stocks here seem to be holding steady despite the fishing pressure that they receive...Cheers!!!
@@KerryFlowers Love watching your clips, reminds me of home being a good KIWI myself. Born and raised in KatiKati, Bay of Plenty. Also enjoy Watching Rob Fort and Big Angry Fish as they Often fish Tauraunga Harbour And Waihi
@@rustywalsh56 Ah the home waters eh? I haven't fished down that way much, have done a few coromandel trips and even been to whakatane and te kaha on one trip with Rob Fort and really enjoyed it down there but it is just so far for me to go when I have fantastic fishing on my doorstep. Thanks for watching!
I'm a little picky with whom I do missions with and it is all about the person's experience and abilities - If you have some experience with kayak fishing and are somewhat fit then I would consider it! Cheers!!!
@@PhantomMantis1 It is a bit of both, research suggests that the larger fish produce a massive amount more eggs/sperm than their smaller counterparts, and while the flavour is the same the meat becomes corser and tougher as the fish get larger - I'd rather eat those melt in the mouth fillets off the smaller fish...
Dumb - no just too reliant on the technology that is available so don't get the skills to make do without it....Yeah it is a bit cool, must be that pesky southerly blowing the cold from down south! Cheers!!!

That's fantastic bro! Will we see you up here at some stage? the water is starting to warm up and everything should be cranking again soon...Cheers!!!
Where are you based brother?

This is great. This is the fishing I'm into, no sounder no extra stuff necessary, 1 rod, no ice, home by 9am and fish filleted by 9:30am :)
Yep there is something great about the simplicity of doing it this way! Cheers!!!
Cheers, that was super helpful. I just got myself a kayak & it’s a good reminder that I don’t need all the kit to get into it.
Great to hear! Good luck for when you get out there! Cheers!!!
@@KerryFlowers yeah really looking forward to getting out! More videos on reading the sea like this one would be awesome
