SPOILERS for the finale of Game of Thrones!!!
Had this Jon Snow tribute in the works for a while. Hopefully you all like it. It's definitely my longest video, and thankfully I never lost inspiration for it even though I was not very satisfied with the way Jon's story ended.
To me it seems that the R+L=J plotline was not even necessary since his birthright never played a real factor in the show. Regardless, Jon was truly one of the most brilliant characters on Game of Thrones. He was the reason I created this channel, so this tribute to Jon Snow really took some time and energy to edit.
    Thanks.

He betrayed the two women he loved, he betrayed the Night Watch. He's not a king in my eyes since episode 4 (and he did very little on episode 3) or perhaps even since season 8 started, he looks much less convincing and competent as a king (add to that his stupid behavior in season 7 episode 6). Basically he killed Daenerys for no real purpose, damn, the guy wasn't even sure he's doing the right thing. He got a very gloomy end in the finale, so did Daenerys. I didn't like that, I think making good ending that is not a cliche is far from impossible, and it's even more challenghing.
The real vilian btw is Tyrion, since season 6 he's getting Daenerys into troubles time and again, since the beginning season 7 he did everything to save his sister and to stop Daenerys. Daenerys was way too patient, willing to humiliate herself and to take huge risks to avoid attck on Cersei. It ended with 2 dead dragons (who clearly has special bond with her), half of her army lost, closest friend executed in brutal way and eventually Daenerys going through mental breakdown which led to the death of thousands of civilians who mostly hated Cersei every bit as the Northerners.
But Tyrion made it to the end, and so did dispensable characthers like Arya, Bran, Brienna, Bron, Sansa, Sam, etc- I would be ok with anyone of them losing his plot armour, but Daenerys shouldn't have die, not this way at least.

@@shock4979 No she wouldn't. I'm saying that what she does was nothing unique in Middle Ages and in fact, up until few decades ago even Western countries did it. Some say they still (Like EU forces bombing civilians in Kosovo). In any case, it doesn't make sense that she turned "mad" after being forgiving so many times, to evil people from her brother to Cersei, after she hesitated so many times to use her force, after she gave her foes always at least one chance for peace, usually more than one even after they chosen to attack her and to humilate her (e.g., think on the way the slavers first talked to her, or how Cersei treated her in their meeting). He killed her just like that, without trying to change her mind first-arguing with her for one minute doesn't count to try to change her mind. Certainly not when it's the love of his life (and yes well, his aunt too).

There's nothing wrong with a strong female character. Don't you hate it when you have a woman in a scary movie and she runs into danger for no good reason and the only reason would be because the writing is making her a fool or would you rather have the Sarah Connor run into danger with a fucking shotgun ready to kill anyone who needed to die. It was a bad ending. The ending would have been great if he decided to take this path on his own while the rest at least suggested him to become king because he is a Targayen. Or because, just like Varys said: Maybe he would have been a good king because he does not even want to be king. If he had chosen the wild north over the crown himself. But no, he was exiled. He was the bad boy - like Jaime Lennister before. No one - AGAIN - realized, that killing a mad psychopath leader was a good thing in the end. And nobody really cared that he was exiled, not even his family. It was all like "Good bye and don't let the door hit your butt". Also he did not seem happy with he "new life" (but that might be the lack of Kit Harrignton's screen acting qualities). No warm welcome with Tormund. No smile on his face when he rode out of the gates into the wild. No final relief that gave you as the viewer the feeling that he has found peace at last.

To be honest I could not have imagined a more satisfying ending for Jon. It was beautiful, bittersweet, there was a sense of things lost, but also a lot of hope for a better future.
When the gate closed behind him, Jon was closing that chapter of his life, a life dominated by duty and heavy responsibilities, endless fights and a lot of death. He looked around at his people and then straight ahead with a little smile on his face, towards a new beginning. Freedom at long last!
I don't believe Jon will ever marry or have children of his own, not because of some stupid vows, but because what happened with Igritte and now Dany has hurt him too badly to ever try again.
However, he will be a father. Look at how many children were walking in the woods in the last scene of the finale. Most of them have probably lost their entire family during the Long Night. They'll need a father figure, a role model, someone to look up to. Jon will be that person. He'll bring with him a little bit of the Westerosi culture, without disrespecting the Freefolk's traditions. He'll teach those children how to read and write, he'll pass on to them his good leadership qualities, his moral code and sense of justice, his kindness and compassion.
His legacy, and Ned Stark's legacy, will go on even after Jon's death.

Maybe Jon sacrificing the throne and giving up everything makes him a better man than his father. His father didn’t sacrifice anything and dragged the kingdom into a bloody civil war that led to the events of Game of Thrones. But if Rhaegar didn’t do those things Jon wouldn’t have existed. The Night King would have won and the whole world of the living would have died. He also did the self less act of leading the wildlings north to their home. Now whether he comes back to the Nights Watch is another story. He also saved the 7 kingdoms from the man queen Deanarys Targaryen. He also ended the Targaryen House by renouncing his title and birthright. Had he demanded his birthright he could be king of the 7 kingdoms and it would have led to another bloody war.
Jon could easily remain in the North and become a leader of the Wildlings and become a King in his own right. Without the politics and the constant issues.

If you think about it his trek through the wall was a one way trip. Tormund and the wildlings were gracious that Jon came with them. He saved their lives and those of their children.

The ending of Jon Snow is really depressing. All the history of his true identity, Ned's sacrifices of hiding his true name, suspense of Sam and Bran realizing that he is the true heir to the throne, being a bastard all his life, getting hated by Caitlyn Stark, to being sent to the Nights Watch, climbing the ladder being the Lord Commander to King of the North, killing Dany, the love of his life for his duty. All for what? Being guilty and sad he killed his love one and being exiled? Nobody even mentioned his true identity in the end! It was frustrating. I know, he would be happy in the North in the end but he deserved much better. He sacrificed his life to saving the people all his life. Aegon Targaryen will forever be my favorite character.

Jon's story is sad, but he was given something of a silver lining in the end. He sacrificed so much, never asking anything for himself, possibly more than any other character in the story. He was the true shield that guarded the realms of men, a responsibility he accepted, and that could only be accepted as selflessly as he did. In the end, he was probably too good for the world of Westeros, and for all his sacrifice he was rewarded with exile. At least he goes to a place with people - the free folk - who admire and appreciate him for who and what he is rather than what his name is. They know, symbolized in part by Tormund, that they are alive because of him and his sacrifices.
The true story of GoT, the ice and fire, were both embodied in Jon. The story brought his arc together with Daenarys, and they were the true soul of GoT. Together they would either truly remake the world as a better place, or they would end as they did, with Jon protecting the world yet again from the greatest danger.
While he goes to a new home, a place he has always felt comfortable it seems, it's sad that he likely will never see his real family again. But he leaves the Starks - his real house and family - in good hands and in a good place.
I just hope that one day someone writes one of those Westerosi songs about him, to commemorate the shield that saved them all.

He saw the Night King and made a foolhardy dash to slay him. He was soon overwhelmed and fell into the hypothermia water. Meanwhile, Dany delayed lift off, risking all of their lives. This made me so sad. Then to see how he got screwed in the end! Thanks D&D for the character assassination of Jon Snow.

What a great character arc only to be wasted at the end for D & D to rush off to film the next Spaceballs trilogy.

I noticed something in the final montage of the finale where Jon, Sansa and Arya are moving on to the next step in their journey that I havent seen anyone else bring up. During his time as King in the North it always seemed that Sansa was at odds with Jon - no moment more apparent then when she questioned him in front of everyone about his mercy to house Umber and house Karstark. She had learned from Cersei that mercy was weak (something that Dany used as justification for what she was going to do to Kings Landing - she didnt want Cersei proving her weak and in effect fell into the same foolish belief as Cersei that mercy is weakness). Time and time again Jon displayed mercy to those who wronged him. Especially Sansa, who in effect betrayed him more than once (keeping the Knights of the Vale arrival to herself and then sharing his secret after she said she would not) and both times he subverted her expectation and forgave her - showed her the mercy she was willing to refuse others. I was pleased at the end of that montage as Sansa took her seat on the Northern Throne to hear a familiar voice yell out, "The Queen in the North!" --- Lord Glover!!! He abandoned them for the Long Night and even the Last War and Sansa could have punished him severely for that, but she learned from Jon's leadership - to grant mercy.
Dany couldn't grant mercy either - in many ways she saw it as a victory for Cersei if she did, - but even in the end Jon granted her a small mercy - a quick death - where many people in the show would respond with vengeance for what she had done. Yes, the way he led always put him at risk for betrayal - his own murder came from him doing what was right for life to continue. Some people call that dumb - i think it is honorable and worth living like - imagine if everyone lived as sacrificially as Jon. The world would be a better place.
Jon displayed many Christlike attributes - I suppose that is a big reason he was my favorite character. This was a tragedy - not bad writing or character assassination. I was left both sorrowful at the cost of his sacrifice for everyone and inspired. Great ending and great video!!!!!! (my favorite parallel and contrast of Ygritte's last words "you know nothing, Jon Snow" and Dany's "you know what is right - you have always known" quite compelling and poetic. Haven't figured out what he actually knows yet though LOL) hope someone read all of this lol thoughts welcome

Man, great comment. I love how thoughtful you are about the characters and themes. I've also noticed the Christ-like attributes given to Jon, but I haven't ever given thought to a lot of what you have mentioned here. Thank you for your words, Zac.

I’m ridiculously happy and proud you didn’t lose your inspiration because of the ending. Neither did I. I’m working through it but I will never lose it. Jon Snow and Jamie Lannister were such amazing inspirations for me and they will continue to be “from this day until my last day.”

you know nothing jon snow.............you know nothing about being greedy of power, about stepping on someones path, about being ruthless regardless of reasons, about everything for yourself.................................................what you only know was to have peace, honesty, forgiveness, and love that we all humans do to live a perfect and happy life. thanks to you the true king of the 7 kingdoms! the protector of the realm!
