Sush won Miss India barely ahead from top favorite Aishwarya Rai. She later lost her passport days before her flight to Manila, the Miss India organizers decided to send Aishwarya to miss universe as she has a valid passport that time (Sushmita can still compete later in Miss world in November by securing a new passport). However Sushmita fought her right and said she won't compete in another contest other than Miss universe. And the rest is history...both Sushmita and Aishwarya won that Year in 1994

Femina really wanted to send Aishwarya Rai to Miss Universe instead. It was somehow a form of sabotage. I think Sush knew that that’s why she fought for her right to go for Miss Universe anyway.

I feel like Sushmita and Caroline are like really great friends......they are always huddled together.
