ha ha ha yeah I think it is I've actually only played it briefly when I still had a ps3 and bought the remastered HD collection before I had known about of all the discussion and poor reviews the game was receiving at the time due to all the changes in the final product and although I agree to an extent, I do still feel regretful I didn't spend more time with it to get a fuller and more tactile feel and establish a better personal opinion of it myself(I only got to a little further past the first mall area before I stopped playing but I stayed in that little side alley outside of the bathroom for 20 minutes or so listening to that song and just taking in the visuals). However, I did super enjoy watching the Best Friends Matt and Pat's LP of the game as well as the other silent hill games as I do all their videos and I think the audio and writing for the characters is top notch. I have played and beaten silent hill 1 though and it's still one of my favorite and best horror games ever, love all the effort, love and passion that went in to it. Lastly, sorry my messages are so long but I also just wanted to say that I really liked your resident evil: dead aim review too and how it introduced me to that games' save room theme which has been a sleep aid for me sometimes, I adore it. I didnt know how to feel about this game in the opening moments. It gets better and better the longer you play it. By the end, its a worthy entry in the series.
Pretty late to this party, but I definitely agree with the puzzles in this game. Nothing like trying to determine a keypad code based on a guy devouring some woman's face!
In spite of how confusing the game might seem at first, it's probably the most straight forward SH game of the original series. Everything gets spelled out at some point. That's not to say it ISN'T confusing, just that if you stick with it you'll find it's less vague than the rest of the series.
Even going back this far in your catalog, you were still making well thought out content to an absolutely criminal lack of views and subscribers. I hope it all rightfully floods in for you soon.

This is such a great game and a very close second to number 2 on terms of my favorite silent hill games. It still has my favourite line of all time when you meet the psyc guy in the library and you tell him about the monsters, literally blew my mind. I'm glad they revisited the initial story and the feeling of silent hill coming into the real world really added to the sense of helplessness and inevitability of her journey to silent hill and made the horror a bit more real for me, especially the subway (there were definitely times I dreaded going down the stairs!)

I just beat this game for the first time and it's 2015 so I'm really late to the party I didn't watch your review before because I was afraid of spoilers and there are none. Great review I agree with you on many points. Silent Hill 2 is still my favorite because of the amazing story(I only played the first three so far) but THIS game is much much better than Silent hill 2. I really like the flow of the game. The first half of the game (Heather coming home) is superb and the second half is pretty good too. This seems like the peak of Silent Hill. I'm a complete idiot for waiting this long to play it. Two things that surprised me the most about this game: 1) How fun it is 2) I didn't need a guide!! (I set the puzzle difficulty to easy and action to normal cuz i suck at puzzles) but every single puzzle was quite straightforward :explore an area, find the items, done. There was no mindfuckery for me maybe puzzle difficulty changes drastically at higher difficulty levels. Also the main story is about Heather's nightmarish journey of self discovery like you said and not that fucking lame cult. Anyway this is easily one of the best games I've ever played. Onwards to The Room! (probably not as good tho) :)
As I haven't any experience (at least positive experiences) with the Silent Hill games I didn't think I'd enjoy this video as much as I have, and I can see why it's your favourite! It's a brilliant breakdown of the game and the comparisons to the previous games helped paint a much better picture of what this game should and shouldn't have been, without dedicating it too much to those said old titles. I have to admit though, my favourite parts were in the first 3 minutes, especially those blowout things. Two made it even better. Fist fantastic stuff as always! Keep up the good work! Now I gotta see some more! ^^

When SH2 came out a friend gifted me his old PC. AMD Spitfire @ 650 MHz, Nvidia GeForce 4MX440 and 512MB of RAM. I ran SH2 perfectly. I had 60+ hrs on it. And I kept playing and playing and playing in hope of finding more hidden stuff or one more ending. A year went by and I was extremely excited to know that SH3 is coming out... And maaan my disappointment realizing that I wouldnt be able to run it on that PC. So... some time went by and... my first contact with SH3 was... kinda disappoinitng. Im not saying its a bad game it just (for me) cant reach the bar that SH2 put. I just played it I really forced myself to "get in" into Heather's shoes like I did with James... nut with James it happened naturally. SH3 has its atmosphere, its own lore, characters but to me this is the game in the series that started to stray away. And with SH4 it completely went away. Anyway... just my thoughts. God bless Team Silent for giving us Silent Hill. And FucKonami!
Silent Hill 3 is my personal favourite in the series as well. The gameplay is as good as the classic survival horror-gameplay could get, the graphics still look great (the character-models easily look better than both Homecoming and Downpour), the music and sounddesign is amazing and the story and characters might not be as complex as SH2, but they feel a lot more relatable, especially Heather herself. She is one of my favourite characters of all time, feeling like a realistic depiction of a teenage girl, with both the positivs and flaws that entails. Her journey feels truly special and it really annoys me how she gets overlooked when people talk about great female characters in games. I really like your channel so far, so you'll probably see more of me. Keep up the great work. :-)
I think my biggest complaint about this game is the combat. In sh2, the bosses were easy, and fighting enemies came down to “wack or shoot”, but the placement was tasteful enough for it to not be obnoxious. This game didn’t change a thing, but has bosses that have broken AI, on top of moves with little to no wind up animation making them basically unreactable, and a metric FUCK ton of enemies. Like good god they put SO many enemies in they stopped being scary and just became a chore. They’re also so big (I love the designs and think some of them are stronger than sh2’s enemies, but) I kept getting fucking caught on them, cornered, and dying because I’m getting fucked on by like 3 enemies clipping through each other. The atmosphere and my love for sh is the only thing that got me to finish this game.
Everyone keeps saying SH 2 is the best SH game. I have played all of them and I don't believe this. It is good yeah BUT the first one will always be the first for me. I would say that even SH 3 might be better than SH 2 for me.
True but as much as i hate Downpour it played a lot better on emulation i was able to get 1440P 60FPS and the texture streaming and load times where seconds instead of almost a minute still a bad game but easier to play just a shame it never got an official PC port as i needed a RTX3070 to run it.

The game has joystick controls too. They (the 2-D setting) are way better than the tank control setting. You will definitely want to use the joystick with the "2-D setting though
Great game, but it has the worst sound design for enemies of any SH game, even the burping she hulks in SH4 . They all seem to be stuck on some two second loop and it goes from scary to incredibly annoying

You will definitely want to use the joystick with the "2-D setting though
Not as good as SH 2, but definitely better than the 1st. Like, 100X better XD
The weapons make the game more fun. Game is a THIRD PERSON SHOOTEr. Just a knife is boring
Great game, but it has the worst sound design for enemies of any SH game, even the burping she hulks in SH4 . They all seem to be stuck on some two second loop and it goes from scary to incredibly annoying
