    Let me tell you something Lon. You are my go to guy to get honest reviews about a product. I think most everyone gets influenced by provider perks but I believe your reviews are honest. Credibility is huge so don't ever lose that. Thanks for the review.

    This is why I like Google Nest, and Lenovo smart clocks with Google assistant as they don't have ads unless you're watching a YT video on them, or using YT music without a YT premium account. the home screens, and screensavers are ad free!!

    We have an Echo Show here and the display is always twitching. As far as displays, I prefer the Google Display more, whatever it's called (we have three). The displayed time is much larger and more prevalent than the Show's. Alexa seems more accurate with the weather when we ask it compared to Google, though.

      @cr-pol Před měsícem

      My Echo Show display twitches all the time too. But considering how I use it, it doesn't bother me. I use it basically as a Spot 95% of the time.

      @@GameSack that’s why the show 5 and 8 were kicked out of the bedroom. It was so aggravating.

      Google devices are called Nest, and I prefer them as well.

    Too many ads on my Echo Show 5 and Show 8. I hate that I'm in bed and I get something popping up on my Show 5 asking me to purchase something from Amazon or asking me to review a product or I get a news or weather notification (weather, I'm OK with if its a potential emergency). If I get one of these for the bedroom, I might move the Show 5 to the living room and either retire the Show 8 or give it to my parents. If my 2 original Echo Spots didn't suffer from screen flicker, I would still be using them today.

      You can do away with ads if you enable Kids mode on your Echo Show devices. Works great, at least for now.

  • @kumarp3074

    I am still using the original Echo Spot from 2017. That one had a full circular display which could be used to display an analog clock. I think it's still the only smart speaker devices that actually looked like an alarm clock. The new ones looks neat though I wish they had kept the full circular display.

      @kumarp3074 Agreed. The original echo spot is my favorite echo product. I was excited that they made a new one after discontinuing the original, but this doesnt seem like an improvement.

    I lost interest in Echo devices after they dropped the 3.5mm headphone jack. The 2nd generation with the USB power connection is still the best.

      Yeah I had the echo show 8 2020 version I think for a while and the sound was surprisingly loud and pretty good. It was virtually impossible to set it up so you didn't get all sorts of ads. You could mitigate it but...
      Although they still managed to push services on you when you ask questions occasionally.
      Like if you ask for a song sometimes it'll try to upsell you into the family music plan or something.
      I ended up selling it back to Amazon in the trade-in or something for 35 bucks.

      And it can't keep the clock on the screen, I want a smart clock that can show info and some videos . But Amazon can't get it in thier head that I want the clock to show at all times unless I'm asking it to do something. So frustrating.

    I recently picked up a dot with clock specifically for it not having a camera or ads - if this existed at the time I would have probably gotten this. Great use case is a clock in s family room (where my dot is) or a guest room.

      You can tell Alexa to set a Weekday alarm for let's say 6AM. My Mom has her original Echo Dot and her Alexa configured for an alarm to go off weekdays excluding holidays at 4AM (she has to be at school for work at 6am).

    I have a few nest and a few echo devices and I have to say in terms of getting answers to questions about like trivia or history Alexa is the best. Least on the speaker. It doesn't seem to be as useful if you set it up as a default assistant on your phone.
    Like I was asking a very specific question while I was playing video games the other day and couldn't access my phone. I was asking who owned a specific radio station in Vermont.... And it gave me an incredibly throw answer about Ken squire.

    A bedroom clock needs a battery backup. That, and no line out equals no way for me. At least it doesn't have those ads that the Show forces on you. The Dot 2nd generation is still the winner (connected to some bookshelf speakers and a subwoofer).

    • @CommodoreFan64
      @CommodoreFan64 Před měsícem

      I feel ya, and I use Google Nest Home Hubs & Nest Mini speakers along w/Lenovo smart clock essentials in my house, & I'm hard of hearing so my solution as backup is to keep the alarm on my Google Pixel set along with my Motorola Smartwatch that vibrates incase the power, and/or internet goes out. far as audio out you could get the new ONN streaming player Pro that sends music through the HDMI Port instead of the speaker itself.

    • @matthewjbauer1990
      @matthewjbauer1990 Před měsícem

      Yes, but all Echo devices never had a battery. Even the Echo Dot clock thing. This left companies like Mission Accessories wide open to sell battery cases and battery stands for Echo devices. I'm sure that this Echo Spot will get a Mission battery case or one from another brand soon.

      The Show has ads?

    • @matthewjbauer1990
      @matthewjbauer1990 Před měsícem

      @@cr-pol Yes. I consider them ads although its mostly SPAM content. Its mostly Amazon purchase recommendations, purchase reminders (Amazon thinks you need certain items monthly (and you don't) or you have items in your cart/wish list and Amazon is nagging you to complete the purchase or Amazon saw a price drop on an item you looked at recently etc.). Also, you get videos like news and trending social media videos fed to you. On the Show 8 as opposed to Show 5, you also get videos from Prime and other approved streaming services suggested to you. I also get music recommendations including Amazon Unlimited Music.

    We are so close to a good open source voice assistant and Alexa is getting dumber. I'm not sure if I'll buy another Amazon voice assistant. If my 30+ year old alarm clock dies then maybe. Or maybe I'll build one myself.

  • @sirobin171
    @sirobin171 Před měsícem

    I have echo's thru out my house. I am not buying any new ones because I am throwing them all away as soon as Nabu Casa has a working altternative to Alexa to purchase. I want Alexa and Amazon out of my house, it is constantly selling me stuff with yellow notifications and who knows if it is using Ai to listen to everything we talk about. Also I heard but can not confirm that Amazon is in the process of rolling out charging for the Alexa service or just killing the Alexa project completely, so another reason to not buy any of their hardware. Yes yes before anyone chimes in that I can turn off the microphone on each device, this is not viable because then you have to physically turn it back on when you want to talk to Alexa each time, and we use Alexa to do a lot of smart home stuff.

    Is there Celsius format and AM/PM if not using 24H format? 24 hours of sunlight in summer, 12 hour format without AM/PM is minus if there is no option for that. Nice testing videos and have nice summer days. Thank you for your videos.
