@@matildecoelho917 My take is that Pi accepted that tiger didn’t have a soul because it didn’t care about him. Merely co coated with him for its own survival. Yet the starved tiger merely left the defenseless Pi. I’d say that’s a sign of conscious and even care from the tiger. Albeit it is multi meaning. Such as a symbol to f Pi officially letting go of his hate/anger that kept him going.

It’s whether you immediately jump to the rational explanation or can believe in the unbelievable. The island is kinda the part where you start to question everything imo, even before the hospital scene with the Japanese detectives. I think that’s just after he says he has trouble keeping track of reality? Another point I think is that even though Richard Parker walked away as he did, Pi never truly stops believing his friend has a soul. This is because his faith, like his name (which I think was chosen tactfully by the author), is limitless.

I really like how the movie never explain the tiger strange behavior of staring at the jungle, nor did it hinted to anything. I don't know about everyone, but sometimes when a animal does something that is abit unatrual or just bluntly odd for a animal like a tiger to do. It just can't or never be explained, like me personally I would had just expected that tiger to just "run off" cause it a predator animal it will go do what it will natrually do. Though it didn't and to me I was like "That is just STRANGE" many people will have speculations on the tiger werid behavior, but like some very rare moments, animals done some unspeakable things and we will never know.
there was no tiger. it was a figment of the boy's mind. without the tiger as a coping mechanism, the boy would have gone insane and probably died. the 'tiger' is what kept him alive.

It is not that sad. That a starving tiger spared him after the tiger didn't need the boy anymore is gratitude enough. Richard Parker wasn't going to become some hunting companion on land.
The fact this starving tiger didn’t eat Pi at such a weakened state is care and respect enough... by an animals view at least. Right?
