Life of Pi Alternate Ending

- Like many people, and Pi himself, I was hoping for that last backwards glance from Richard Parker to bring their relationship to a close, so I decided to do this simple video insertion of a fake newspaper clipping to feel like there's still a connection between the two and as a hint that the version with the tiger was the REAL story. Enjoy.
I like the idea that the book really leaves people to wonder which story is actually the real one. The human one may be more possible, but it doesn’t make it the exact answer, it could easily be the animal story instead
I dunno about "easily", but yeah, like you said, the human one is a lot more probable.
"I know a story that will make you believe in God."
I have not read the book, but my ex-wife did and she told me the same thing that you did. But I asked about certain events of the movie and she said that those things indeed happened in the book. And it made me wonder -- how is it possible that you could read about these events and still think that the animal story is possibly true? Perhaps I need to read the book but I don't see how it's possible that given the alternate human explanation, how the animal explanation could be believable.
@@sundarpichai940 Then you definitely need to read it.
@@sundarpichai940if u see the last part in this clip where the writer looks at the newspaper clipping, there is a report of a sighting of a tiger in Mexico coastline, and it also mentions that tiger do not inhabit that area, and hence the question, where did the tiger come from? The tiger was Richard Parker, the animal, the friend, the creature who helped pi survive that unbelievable journey.
In the end its all about letting go but what hurts the most is not taking time to say a goodbye....damn!!
Rip Irfan khan...one of the India's most versatile actors ever.
I'm so sorry to find out he died. I really liked him in the movie. And he was so young !
@@axiomist4488 😭
There is no doubt that this is one of the best movies i have ever seen. Although pi lost his family and survived 227 days at sea with a tiger, he became very fond of richard parker although he never saw him as his friend. I love this movie very much it is highly recommended and It's based on real events 🫶🏻❤️
The scene where the tiger vanished into the jungle is an allusion to moving forward aside from the past
His smile after saying that is so expressive of that. Terrific !
Rest in peace Irfan sir!!!.... It's a sad day today🖤🖤🖤🖤 we lost of the greatest actor in Bollywood as well as in Hollywood
@Uzi Khan same with Bollywood, Shah Rukh Khan is pretty hard to beat
@@kashitumbapura6691 Dude sharukh doesn't know how to act
@@kashitumbapura6691 srk?? really? 😂
Lol no
@Uzi Khan You’re right - but say that Irfan is one of the greatest actors in Hollywood - is not a stretch. ONE of them - yes. Not THE of course.
the scene 1:30 really gets me everytime. i love movies that make me feel that way.
same here. This film was incredibly well done it really touched me like not many films do.
hadtochangemyname tothis, Actually if you go to 1:30 it shows the scene of the tiger having a flashback. That's the scene he is talking about. Not the additional clip the person edited in.
@Gemma Saint you are a certified moron.
Me too 😭❤️.... 😢😢😢 I am always incapable to hold my tears when this scene hits me 😢😢😢
There is a theory behind this scene, that the transition was meant to symbolise that Richard Parker was in fact thinking about Pi. Showing in some way, Pi was right, he did not just see his own reflection when he looked into the tiger’s eyes. He may have left unceremoniously, but his last thoughts before leaving was of Pi.
It’s a shame the best and most critical line of the entire movie got cut in this clip. Pi asked, “Which story do you prefer?” He didn’t ask, “Which story do you believe?” Pi understands God at such a deep level and revealed it to the writer at that moment. Stellar screen writing.
this movie really touched me like not many movies do! incredible film by Ang Lee.
I think that Richard parker when he stopped and looked into the jungle he was having a Flashback of him and pi, hence why at when the movie shows pi smiling and then Richard parker i think he was having a Flashback of the good memories before disapperaring :(
The way he mentions the cat before the kids.....Richard Parker lives on through his cat, and is a member of the family.
To me, the story with the Tiger is not beautiful because it's true, but because it's not true. Pi was able to let go of all the hurt that came from watching his family die and losing his innocence. The beauty of the story he tells matches the peace he feels.
That's what's amazing about this story. He experienced some of the worst pain a person can feel. But he didn't become cynical, he found peace and beauty anyway.
We don’t know that it’s not true. It could be either. That’s the entire point of the novel.
@@Bubble170 I can't speak to the book, I haven't read it. But it's heavily implied in the movie that the story with the tiger is false.
@@ashtonbowers1122 no it isn’t. You choose which is the truth. He told the other story because nobody believed him. We choose which is true. If you don’t understand this then you’ve missed the point. It is in fact implied that the story with the tiger is true, as he insisted it was true in his hospital bed and didn’t come up with the other story until he was forced to, and the reporters also went with that story.
Perfectly said!! Overcoming pain to find meaning in life again is one of bravest things
@@Bubble170 No. Youre wrong. Your interpretation is closer to the book. The movie is the opposite.
Rest in peace irfaan sir.
Your memories will always be cherished
1:31 The fact that this scene is made to expose that Richard Parker was, indeed, Pi all along, is acceptable. But, to think that this scene means that Richard Parker was real and he was reminding Pi to say goodbye, it tears me apart. 💔
Man this scene just crushes the heart infinitely
@1:30 it always made me cry..still noe am crying cuz Richard parker actually said his goodbye 😩😭😭😭and he thanked him and loved a lot tooo 😍😭😭😭😭
shit that's sad
Well yeah its just fucking sad i just cant tack sad movie but its help us learn tho
It's nicely edited, but it corrupts the message of the story. The point is that it is possible that either of Pi Patel's stories might be true. In that situation we the audience choose which story we would rather believe. You, like most of the rest of us, choose the story about the tiger because it is more beautiful and less horrifying than the alternate story. This runs parallel to the idea of God. The more beautiful story is that there is an almighty being out there who knows us to the marrow, loves us anyway, and forgives us for everything we've ever done wrong. However, there is no direct way to prove His existence. You have to take it on faith. Providing proof of Richard Parker is like providing proof of God. Since God's existence cannot be proven, inserting proof of Richard Parker into this movie ruins the essential allegory on which Life of Pi is based, and renders the story completely pointless.
Yes, the beautiful story helps us not just to survive, but to heal ourselves and others, that is why Pi chose it; to find God and love in the darkest place.
Choosing makes that story real, and it alters the course of our lives thereafter: Note the similarity to 'Life is Beautiful', the main character knew that too. After all, let's remember that NEITHER story is 'true'-- This is a fictional novel, after all...! But the message IS true...
I like it....And to me it makes the story all the more believable...Just because you say its pointless.. Do not make it so...
pardon me if this was already answered.. but i just watched the film and i would like to know which story is the one that actually happened.. the animal one or the one with the humans, cook and sailor etc. is there one which actually happened or is it meant to be totally ambiguous?
It IS meant to be ambiguous. The movie's "twist," so to speak, is that the story with the tiger may not have actually happened. Neither version can be proven but the men writing their account of the ship sinking (and most audiences) chose to believe the tiger version. This video was simply made for fun as a way of hinting that there is proof the tiger version was the real one.
thanks for reply. I cant actually remember the newspaper clip in the original i will have to rewatch.. does it hint that the one with the cook and sailor was true?
I liked the newspaper clipping.
❤️❤️❤️
Factos
RIP Irrfan sir..U will deeply be missed..This movie at the end brings tears in my eyes adding to the fact that u are no more with us. You were always my favourite.May ur soul rest in peace.
This is a better ending for me. Chills.
This is official ending
It’s important for this screenplay to understand the horror of what really happened and the story pi constructed to help him survive. It’s a metaphor for religion. Life is suffering and if there is a story that brings you peace in your heart then there is no reason not to prefer it.
Did he said he has a cat in his family?
I wonder if he named his cat after the tiger
Long Haired Lioness n he mentioned the cat before his kids 😂😂😂😂
Richard Parker😆😆😆
That would be hilarious
Hahahahahahhaha i wished they did get a cat after his tiger hahah
Like the fact he named his son after his brother ❤️
R.I.P Irrfran Khan.
Thank you for this beautiful movie.
Ah I wish we had this in the ending, just so we can see Richard Parker one last time. Love the ending we got though.
Nice touch.... I like this....God Bless you Mr. Roger Packer And you also Cameron Metrejean
Rest In Peace: Irrfan Khan 😌 Thank You 🙏🏼
Ya when I saw the movie it left with tears
Yup i felt they same thing
Thank you....so much...for this. 🙏
incredible work!
I think this ending is better bc of 3 reasons: it shows that the tiger is ok and still alive, Pi's story ends even happier and also on a better note, and this ending retouches on Pi and Richard Parker's unlikely friendship, shiwing thzt maybe, the tiger didnt leave him bc he wasn't his friend, or forever, bc maybe the island was the tiger's gome, and although goodbyes are hard, maybe it was meant to be that way, and who knows? Maybe Richard Parker has a family of his own, too. Although they grew up, friendhip will last gorever, goodbye or not, because its only "see you later." Goodbyes shouldn't be forever.
such a deep movie...
Such a sad movie and some sad moment
RIP 😭🐯 Irrfan Khan
Always Remember as Bollywood Legend and Hollywood Legendary
I know for sure there was something more than just his reflection staring back at him. And I cryed when the tiger just disappeared into the jungle at the very end with that music.
There is a theory behind the final scene, that the transition was meant to symbolise that Richard Parker was in fact thinking about Pi. Showing in some way, Pi was right, he did not just see his own reflection when he looked into the tiger’s eyes. He may have left unceremoniously, but his last thoughts before leaving was of Pi.
Thank you, Irrfan Khan, Thank you Richard Parker, see you forever❤❤🥺🥺✨✨
I wish the story or the movie would do an alternate view point of Richard Parkers mind and what he was thinking on what was going on in that ship.
I was looking to see the eyes of the tiger staring back from the jungle but couldn't spot them.
I believe Parker is a metaphor for the other side of Pi
Katy Perry did that for us just listen to Eye of the Tiger 🐯
Richard Parker ain’t real bruh it was pi’s will the survive the whole time.
@@V3rnSqwd5611 The point of the whole movie is that you believe what you believe; it's up to the reader to either believe that the tiger symbolizes his animalistic nature or that Richard Parker actually did exist, which is why Pi asks him which story he prefers.
There is no right answer.
Nicely done
Rest in Peace Irfan Bhai.
We will miss you.
My eyes become In tears when a news paper cutting shows a loins picture and a emotional sound .. because I have pets when I was my in bad phase in my lyf so I just hug my pet and cry they never judge me. The Flute Music is Heart Touching.

RIP you beautiful beautiful soul, one of the greatest indian actors ever, Irfan Khan
When I originally watched this movie, I took it as the tiger was a part of him, his instinct to survive at all costs. And he had to do things that he didn't feel were human but rather animal to survive, like kill or be killed sort of thing. I am remembering the portion in the beginning about the chef, if I remember it correctly and his mother. He had to protect and do what he had to do.
Idk...ive only seen it once and it was ages ago. I would like to watch it fully again at the age I am now to see what I think it means now.
I love the music that starts at 1:15!
Same here bro
It’s an amazing story about life, how much we should cherish it.
This is ending gave me hope
Rest In Peace Irrfan Khan
I looked carefully to see maybe the tiger actually looked back hidden from the bushes but couldn't spot anything...
this ending is better than the ending which in the movie ... i loved it
I like this ending more ♥️💫
RIP Kahn
Wish that Pi like went on an expedition to the island so he could prove that Richard parker was a real thing. Or at least him reunited with the tiger.
Richard Parker. 😭😭😭
Masterpiece of a movie and although I prefer the Tiger story and want that to be the true story as this ending suggests, there's something very Human about the ending they went with and the touch of Mystery and dread of the other story. Also just to point this out, there is one mistake in the entire movie and that's when the tiger eats the goat. Idk if they did it on purpose to maybe foreshadow and represent Pi's loose grip of reality after coming off of that boat. I'm sure everyone noticed that the goat was on the other side of the bars from the tiger yet somehow the tiger pulls the entire goat through them. It would be interesting to know whether that was intentional or not.
Interesting observation. Buy the way I looked at it was : tiger chewed on some of the flesh of the goat and that’s the reason why he was able to pull the rest of body to the other side of bars .
I wish they had put this in the story. Of course I understand the point being made about God. But to me the tiger is real and I believe the boy's story. Why would he make up such a wild story? How, even, could he, unless he's a hell of a writer ?
No, the first story he told is the truth. It's perfectly plausible - the ship was full of animals and, like the boy, some of them survived . I have no doubt of its veracity . I'm also in love with that beautiful tiger. He struck me from the first as a big kitty cat .
We lost you irrfan sir 😖😖😖
The guy just passed today ..sad
tengo que leer el libro!! necesito saber qué fue lo que realmente sucedió!!!!
Miss you Irfan Khan
I like that he says he has a cat.
This is really good! What was actually behind the newspaper clipping?
+Anthony Baltoiu In the actual film there is no newspaper clipping. It's the statement made by the people who interviewed him showing that they chose to believe his story about the tiger. I added the newspaper clipping to give it some credibility. Thanks for liking it :)
+Cameron Metrejean Just saying the fact that you added the newspaper clipping in a way is wrong, since there is no really answer if richard parker actually existed the whole movie could have been a metaphor for a darker truth.
+Elizabeth Panikar I guess the writer want people to debate which story is true. But as a lazy person I think they should have looked for the tiger. If they found the tiger then the tiger story but if they don't find it even if it exist then sadly the darker story is true.

Hehehe, clever.
Good ;)
I laughed so hard at this...it's like you desperately want to believe Richard Parker is real, which would defeat the entire purpose of the story.
It wouldn't. The whole movie is about choosing to believe, of course leaving the endo=ing open was the best way of doing it but what does "it's like you desperately want to believe Richard Parker is real" even mean? Isn't it the point to choose to believe. Most people go with the idea of Pi being just a poor traumatised kid who imagined everything, personally I feel like this interpretation is the one that defeat the movie's purpose. Of course everyone can choose the ending they prefer .

Most people: the tiger story is to cover up reality. Or the darker story is made up to satisfy the Japanese guys.
