"I am still in a state of disbelief at the very sudden news of Toriyama's passing. I have known Mr. Toriyama since I was a writer for Shonen Jump, and at the recommendation of my editor, Mr. Torishima, I decided to ask him to draw pictures for the game when we launched Dragon Quest. In the more than 37 years since then, he has designed the characters, designed the monsters, and drawn so many fascinating characters that I can't even begin to count them. The history of Dragon Quest has been with Mr. Toriyama's character designs. Mr. Toriyama and the late Mr. Sugiyama were longtime friends of mine who worked on Dragon Quest. I can't believe he is gone.... I don't know what to say anymore. I am so, so, so sorry." -Yuji Horii
"Dear *(Hero's Name)* , If you are reading this letter, it must mean I'm no longer by your side. You probably know already, but the reason I've been travelling is to search for my beloved wife, Mada, who fell into the hands of evil. My wife, your mother, had some mysterious powers. I don't really understand it, but it seems these powers are coveted by those in the dark world of Nadiria. It's my belief that she was carried off there because of her powers. Dear *(Hero's Name)* ! You must continue my search for the legendary hero! It seems that the only one who can enter Nadiria and rescue Mada from the clutches of evil... is he who can make use of the Zenithian Equipment: the legendary hero. I travelled all the world and managed to locate the Zenithian Sword... But still I've been unable to locate the legendary hero. *(Hero's Name)* , my son. You must gather the remaining pieces of the Zenithian Equipment, find the legendary hero, and save dear Mada! I have faith in you, son. I know you can do this." ~from Pankraz' Letter, 'Dragon Quest 5'
Not to mention the moment that King Carnelian finds his daughter Jade in Yggdrasil during the Act 3 of the game. Not to mention the Luminary receiving the (Super) Sword of Light.
@@pizzatime1901 Sounded pretty fuggen good for that tiny little soundchip they had to work with. PS2's full symphonic rendition is obviously gonna be better lol
Even for a song called "make me feel sad" there's still moments of hope in this song. Relates to real life at times you just want to be sad or give up and let the darkness of the world takeover, but hope still finds a way to you. Whether that be a change in circumstances or even listening to your favourite song. Life still brings hope.
This isn't a hopeless feeling sad, nor is it a depressing sad but more or less a happy feeling sad. And because of that, this is probably my favorite sad theme in the game
Man, this really hit hard on me every time it played. Rab’s side story, Irwin’s speech… All of those scenes were beautiful alongside this magical music. And although it may sound less depressing than other songs in the OST, this is the only song that made me tear up. It’s just… beautiful. And yes, it made me feel sad.
Eleonor, my girl.. Irwin.. I found him… I found yer boy

Rest in Peace, Toriyama

RIP Akira Toriyama (1955-2024)
Song of an old man who has lost almost everything but keeps fighting.
Petros-san...😭
This is why Rab is my favorite character. He's such a strong person.

Luca, Abel, some weird germany name that i don't remember, Five, these are his official names.
@@papupilinudo9170,
Personally, I went for Luca, but hey, whatever name goes depends on the player himself or herself!
@@papupilinudo9170 it's easier to just call him Madason
@@logantheking4598,
Funny thing, that's what he went by in his cameo in a remake of 'Dragon Quest 6'... He has no other role whatsoever in that game.
The name of Pankraz in french is Petros
When you free King Irwin and this plays...gets dusty in here.
Yeah that’s the scene I always associate with this music. Haven’t played the older DQ games yet.
This piece originally plays in every scene regarding your parents in DQ5. It's very fitting that it's used for your parents and grandpa in DQ11.
I don’t remember it much in 5 probably cuz I played the DS version and the music quality was really bad for most songs

The scene where the hero frees his father is absolutely my favorite scene.

Rab’s side story is still the best.
Agreed
And it’s not even close, can’t wait for the Xbox version to come out
Facts. I cried during that shit.
honestly that side story actually made me cry lol
@@Ghostface711 all the stuff with the luminary’s parents was really sad
I hadn’t heard of Sugiyama’s passing ‘til I came here to listen to this beautiful music. It seems fitting to have found out this way…
“Light and dark are not two sides of the same coin! The light of the luminary is a gift - a gift that will cleanse the world of evil!” DQXI
My favourite line in the whole game.
Rest in peace, Koichi Sugiyama.
Thanks for your songs 😭😭

Well, the song definitely does its job ;-;
Goodbye, Sugiyama. You may not have been the best person in life, but you were one hell of a composer. May you find peace.

Hell is hot for the composer but at least he made beautiful music.
