  • Microsoft showed off what Windows 10 will look like on phones, tablets, laptops, TVs, and whatever else you could imagine. It all looked great, but it was nothing compared to HoloLens, a new system that puts holograms right in your living room

      I feel like theyre concentrating on streaming content from a processor to something that could turn into a display. Like Xbox streaming to any windows 10... i think the HoloLens would just display whats being processed by maybe an Xbox. Display plus gyro might be all it needs thus it should be cheap-ish. Microsoft is turning into something very interesting :D

      @Jex134 Před 9 lety +3

      Every new technology is expensive at first, but rapidly drops in price soon after.
      Look at how expensive Oculus Rift was when it first started - now there's VR headsets made from stamp-cut cardboard printouts you slide a phone into...

  • @Eaglescout217
    @Eaglescout217 Před 9 lety +5

    I can see HoloLens being very useful. Especially with design software like solidworks with being able to see your designs to scale in an actual environment. Also you could assemble the digital parts with your hands with this system, you could load up the parts the they would appear on your desk, in which you could pick up and assembly, afterwards you could bring it over to your 3d printer with the finally designs sent over using wifi and print out the final product.
    In all, the future looks really awesome.

    Google has huge investments in Space and VR as we know with the R&D team that developed Glass.
    Apple on the other hand, is still trying to find ways to make devices 'slimmer', and have not made public any purchases of companies that do anything not related to a pc or mobile device.
    Here is me hoping that in the next Apple announcement, it will at least take the time to mention it is actively looking at other areas...

      The thing is, Apple only would announce a product if it's ready to be sold for consumers. Who knows, Apple may be working on something similar for years now but they're not telling anyone about it because they don't think it's prime for consumers yet. It is known that Apple has some patents on Virtual Reality stuff for their future stuff but we shall wait and see.

    What I could see is you could put your hand out looking at the back of your hand and options in the Holo-Environment would appear on the nails of your hand. Then you use your other hand to select the options. It would make it less awkward to select stuff, as well as more iconic to the software as a feature.

    • @ZTanMURReneRs
      @ZTanMURReneRs Před 9 lety +3

      Kinect is simply incredible. Microsoft managed to make hardware that could do what previously required very expensive technology, in the range of thousands of dollars. That is why at any technical university or small scale innovation labs you see kinects everywhere. They are incredibly useful for for example making a robot able to "see" and recognize it's surroundings. Sure, it might not be the best gaming device, doesn't mean it's not awesome.

    Am I the only one that thinks they've messed up the name? It's not holographic, it's augmented reality!

  • @justjohnny05
    @justjohnny05 Před 9 lety +1

    Im not sure how they think they are getting away with calling it Holograms its really augmented reality its a stereoscopic 3D see thru display that locks to the real surroundings. But they do seem to have the best augmented reality so far. This can change everything. You wont need to leave your home anymore you could travel and work all from home. And world as we know could change into a plain gray voxel world irl. Because what will make things like furniture look like furniture the style and colors will be projected onto say a gray cube chair. Outdoors buildings might be plain gray blocks but with the AR headgear on it will be alive with animated signs in 3d geared just to you. This really only works if everyone has this on though. It will mean the end of TV screens and cell phones etc etc.... all imagery and data will be viewed thru the headgear. speaking of they need smaller lighter cooler looking headgear. eventually that will happen and one day they might be contact lenses for the displays. Gaming and movies will never be the same but will merge into one and you will never just sit there and watch a movie again but be a character in the story and interact augmented reality is the future and this device proves it can be possible now.

    shame it looked good, but ...
    so the demo can be observed:
    1) we see very well in profile the distance between the eye and the screen
    sight distance and screen size, we already see that the 3D view angle squeezed very low max 30 ° so the equivalent of a pc monitor at 1 meter
    2) during the demo where the woman makes the drone we know very well that the camera sends the images and that is connected to large cable and the camera is topped by a large apareil (which must surrement spotted the camera in space) much more precisely than the helmet.
    it is a commercial trick to win investor
    and to show that Microsoft is still in the race
    a chimera that will never see the day
    concurrency for the rift occulus
    dommage cela avait l'air bien mais...
    si on observe bien la demo:
    1) on vois trés bien de profile la distance entre l'oeil et l'ecran
    vue la distance et la taille de l'écran, deja on vois bien que l'angle de vue 3D serra trés faible 30° max donc l'équivalant d'un moniteur de pc à 1 metre
    2) pendant la demo où la femme fabrique le drone on vois trés bien la camera qui retransmet les images et que celle ci est relié à gros cable et que la camera est surmonté d'un apareil volumineux (qui surrement doit repéré la camera dans l'espace) bien plus précisément que le casque.
    c'est un truc commercial pour gagner des investisseur
    et pour montrer que microsoft est encore dans la course
    une chimere qui ne verra jamais le jour
    pour concurencé l'occulus rift
