In Hoc Signo Vinces | Symbols and Symbolism

In Hoc Signo Vinces, pronounced - in hohk sig-noh wing-kase, is a motto attributed today to the Knight Templar branch of the York Rite Freemasonry. Translated to "By this sign thou shalt conquer" the motto and its corresponding association with the passion cross are, perhaps, a misrepresentation of it's original and true intention, an adoption by later Christian military orders in their conquest over an otherwise pagan world.
Despite its militaristic association, the motto, and the symbols it represents have perhaps a far older symbolic meaning into the mysteries of Egypt and beyond.

I find it strange... on my language, In Hoc Signo Vinces strictly means "in this sign you will win"... i find it odd that in english its conquer and not win... that is a very big difference

Ultimately, it comes from the latin, so translations may vary.

I don’t see what your getting at. Win and conquer have quite similar meanings. It’s from the Latin verb víncere in the infinitive form. Vinces in the imperative. You may notice that win and vin are quite similar.

No, that is ecclesiastical Latin. Classical Latin pronounces long O's, hard C's, 'E' as 'A' and 'V' as 'W'

Derek, you need to study more. Classical Latin is the proper pronunciation. Ecclesiastical Latin is a modification that came much later. It is closer to Latin with a Italian pronunciation, but it is not true Latin.
