I heard that the Royal Family never flies together just so something like this
will never happen to them. My condolences to their families.
I knew a couple from Minnesota who told me c. 1974, that they never flew commercial together for the very same reason you're stating. However, this particular incident was a small airplane with 5 people on board. Tragic all around for their survivors.

There's a compelling reason that the FAA does not allow single-pilot planes for pilots over 60 years of age and does not allow multi-pilot planes for pilots over 65. After those ages, flying skills begin to deteriorate. The grandfather piloting this plan was 76. Incredibly tragic and totally avoidable.

Instead of talking to people who knew them. Why isn’t the real problem being addressed here? These small, private aircraft have been crashing all over the country….there’s a crash in Florida several times a year. What is going on with these small, private planes?

Apparently unaware that ALL plane crashes are investigated by the NTSB & when the findings are complete, they are released & discussed at that time. Unfortunately, many are divided between pilot error &/or mechanical issues.
He was headed to refuel. Maybe they didn’t have enough to get them there....
Or all the storms that were in the North East on Sun, played a role....

In America more than 25 people die each month due to small airplane crashes. Never go flying in a one engine plane. Never!
Apply this same reasoning to automobiles. And never go driving or riding in an auto. Never!
You have a statiatically far greater chance of dying while driving a regular automobile. Seriously, look it up. Will you stop driving and riding in cars once you see the numbers?

@@party4keeps28 well, yes and no. Scheduled airline flights (FAR part 121), are safer than driving per passenger mile. However, once you drop into part 121 and part 131 the risks increase (non scheduled air charter). Part 91 (private aircraft, not for hire), has its own distinct risks that, per passenger mile, that make it statistically less safe than driving a car on the highway.
@@garyowen9044 I'm not factoring in passenger airlines, I'm only talking about single engine, private planes as you stated in your original comment. Yes, single engine planes are much, much more dangerous than passenger airlines, but they're still not nearly as dangerous as riding in an automobile. Also, you're very confused as to what constitutes "parts." They're not categories of types of airplanes, they're categories of FAA regulations. Regulations are irrelevant to this conversation.
Just look up single-engine, private airplane accident statistics, and compare them to automobile accident statistics. What do you see?

That’s beyond a tragedy. Folks, a pilot friend of mine once told me, “ don’t ever put your entire family on one aircraft.” When my partner and I travel, same place, different flight. You never know. My heart goes out. Hopefully the NTSB and FAA can figure out what happened. No mayday or anything?

yes. And the pilot had a cold and should not have been flying that day. He would have been energized the next day. They should have waited 24 hours. Very Sad.

It’s so sad that this happened my family were friends with his family, I even knew him personally it’s so sad. The only good part is that in his last ever travel baseball game he hit a grand slam and pitched amazing. This is just so sad. I pray for his family 🙏

Last small plane ride I was on was in 1988. A friend just got his PPL and rented a plane from PDK. Nowadays I hear of multiple small plane crashes daily. I will never fly in them again - give me the big jets. So so sorry to hear of this young family 💔.

@@jimnorton4520 YES, anything could have happened but good people in the aviation community like to look at the info presented to them so they can make sure it doesn't happen to them and there is nothing wrong with that......As an amateur pilot myself risk management is an important factor in a good pilot.......I agree with everyone else......76 Y.O. with a bad cold.......He should have taught his grown son the basics of flying a plane. It's not hard and I too believe because the pilot had a medical emergency.
The Aviation Community doesn't care a bit about identifying accidents as "pilot error". That is because there is nothing to learn by using that identifier. We study the factors leading up to accident itself. You are obviously not a pilot.
