  • Today I decided not to do a usual watercolor tutorial but rather take you with me plein-air painting. I used to be really uncomfortable with the idea of plein-air painting. In this video, I will cover some tips that helped me make plein-air experience more enjoyable! I will also share my painting setup - it is very minimal, and that is a very important factor. If I had a lot of art supplies to carry with me, I don't think I would paint plein-air as often. Finally, I will share some benefits of plein-air painting that I discovered for myself, and I hope these will inspire you to go out and paint!
    I use a variety of watercolor paint brands (Daniel Smith, Holbein, M.Graham, Nevskaya Palitra) but all of them are professional watercolors. I used to buy student-grade paints but now I stay away from them as they contain a lot of additives and little pigment. When painting, I had to apply so much paint just to get any pigment out of them. Professional paints seem to be more economical.
    Paper: Etchr, the Perfect Sketchbook. You may use any brand you like but, most importantly, use 100% cotton.
    Brushes: I use a variety of brushes by different brands: Silver Brush, Chinese calligraphy brushes from Blue Heron Art and Michael Solovyev, squirrel brushes by Roubleff, synthetic by Escoda and Etchr, and a few other different brands. I think it is helpful to buy good quality brushes but most important is the time you spend with that brush.

    Very helpful advice! I have a tendency to over pack, so thank you for showing me the calmness of just taking essentials.

      @alinatulliart812  Před 23 dny

      Same! Just thinking about packing makes me not want to go plein-airing sometimes so even a sketchbook and a pencil is enough sometimes:)

    One more tip: if you are choosing company for plein air and your choices are golden retiever or toddler, choose the one who mastered command "stay" better. Specially for painting pond or creek :-).

    Thank you for the tips in this video😊 I was wondering, since you mainly do washes, what do you do while waiting for the layer to dry? I often find myself too impatient to wait for it to dry completely and then end up making unintentional cauliflowers and the like.

    • @alinatulliart812
      @alinatulliart812  Před rokem +1

      I try to make it dry faster by waving the paper in the air 😅 Outside it usually dries pretty quickly.

    Je viens de vous découvrir et j en suis ravi. Je pratique l aquarelle depuis 3 ans j ai dépassé le stade des tutoriels mais je ne parviens pas à faire des tableaux originaux sur le vif.
    Vos conseils sont très utiles et vos aquarelles très belles.
    Merci beaucoup de 🏡🇫🇷

      Merci beaucoup! Je suis content que vous ayez trouvé mes conseils utiles. Je pense que la meilleure pratique pour vous aider à créer des tableaux originales sur le vif est de faire des croquis de composition et tonaux. Bonne chance!

    I try my best since I started painting in 2017. I am not good at it, but I enjoy it a lot. Just that I am not producing some paintings that someone would say „oh, that looks good“ is making it real hard to go outside and paint. I know that I am only getting better when trying, but it is not too motivating to see people look at my stuff and laugh while passing by. Or comments like „I was able to paint better when I was 4 years old“...are unfortunately bringing me down. Although there are people who say nice things...I can’t forget the others...
    Does anyone have any suggestions for not loosing the motivation then?

    • @alinatulliart812
      @alinatulliart812  Před 3 lety +2

      Oh first of all, good on you for keep trying! I have never heard such mean comments in my address on pleinair, so I can’t imagine what that feels like 😔 Sorry that you experienced that! I totally see how that would upset you. Just know that those people are probably in a really dark and unhappy place themselves, if they decide to say those mean things just to upset someone else. I would suggest when you go on plain air, try to position yourself so that no one else can actually see what you’re painting, or at least very few people can. Pick a place that’s not too busy. With watercolour it’s very hard to achieve a good painting on pleinair, even if you’re experienced. Most importantly, you enjoy the process, so that’s a win!

    • @vani519
      @vani519 Před 3 lety +3

      Thank you 😊 I‘ll just keep on trying. Next time when I hear those things, I‘ll hand them supplies and say: „Ok. If you can do better than I, would you show me how I can get better?“ I am doubting that anyone will do so. But I always like to learn.
