Im surprised you didn’t react to the trailer for Part 2 - the point of these 4 episodes was to get them to the point of happiness before the whole thread of revealing Lady Whistledown ruins it all. Super curious how Colin and Penelope’s relationship can survive this.
I have read the book four times, and love it more each time.
As I have understood it, Penelope lost some weight as she grew older, but never was really slender.
Quoting from the book:
"She was soft, curvy, and lush, just as he'd always thought a woman should be."
I also do not think his behavoir in the book is toxic, as some mention, but just human.
Yes, he could have occasionally curbed his anger a bit, but when we women get angry, we can also get loud and lash out.
But that is human, and putting myself in his shoes, I can see where he is coming from.
Toxic behavior for me would be way worse.
In my opinion Colin in the show being cringy was on purpose.
What Lady Whistledown wrote about him in the first episode was true, she saw right through him.
This was not his real personality, and we do see his facade slowly begin to crumble.
Though I liked the book, I also enjoyed the show.
But then, I am not much of a drama person.
Season 2 was too much drama for me.
I also hated the fallout between Kate & Edwina and Eloise & Penelope.
I like show Colin way better than book Colin. Because book Colin has red flags (like anger issues) and he was not very likable because of that. Even when he was right in things he said in books, the way he said them and the very angry way he reacted... In modern romances we call men like that toxic. Show Colin in my opinion is way better written and i liked him since S01. In this season i think he was trying to pretend to be like other men of society, that's why some things he did looked or felt... cringe (if i can use that word). It was not real him, so it did felt forced. But i think he is out of that pretending now and will be more himself.
I loved carriage scene so much. I don't like that they changed Eloise from books and she is now besties with mean girl. I understand that she was shocked to find out Penelope's secret, but befriending mean Cressida? Really?
But i have to agree that when it comes to overall plot of those 4 eps - it was not very dynamic or interesting. In teaser for other 4 eps seemed, like there will be more drama. And mirror :)
The ending is good, but I also needed more. If I had to rate it, 3 to 3.5 stars. I am interested to see how they’re going to deal with the Whistledown situation.

I won't be watching until the second part is out. I thought it was crazy how they broke it up and only released 4 episodes? Weird. I can't wait to watch in June though
I think there will be a lot of drama in the second half around the Whistledown secret.

I'm loving the Francesca and John scenes. (Her book is one of my favs) and I was really hoping they would flesh out their romance before her season so we really get to see how important john was to her .

The drama between female friends is also a big NO. Kate and Edwina's relationship was so pure and sweet in the books and I hate that we didn't get it (to the same level) in the show. Same with the Eloise and Penelope drama
Yeah Colin did nothing for 😬 let’s see what happens in part 2. I agree Francesca was my favorite side plot and I promised I wouldn’t get attached, but I adore John 😢
I always thought it odd they went for POLIN for season 3 only because Luke Newton was not looking ripe enough as his styling in the first 2 seasons were too boyish. I feel like they still didn’t manage it all the way despite all the jawline and chest hair he’s showing this season. But maybe that’s the point - they do point out that he is not the rake his older brothers are.
Colin still doesn’t know Penelope is Lady Whistledown so I anticipate that coming out and adding drama in the next installment.
My thoughts are pretty close to yours so far! I wish someone had told Collin NOT to turn up the “charm” quite as much, because he was more charming in S2 than he’s coming off now. He’s giving too much false confidence and definitely women would be running from him. His staring face with his mouth open is giving newborn baby rather than…whatever they were hoping
for😬
I was pretty bored too. I was wondering about Cressida as well, but then the more I watched, the more I developed a theory: I think they are setting her up to be Eloise’s love interest, if that makes sense? Like, she will obviously be marrying the duke that doesn’t care for love and will be gone for three years, which gives them time alone to go from a companionship to full on feels (while Pen and Colin are honeymooning). And the only way for viewers to be okay with them being together is for Cressida to be redeemed so she can be accepted by the Bridgerton family.
I don’t know, that was the vibes I got. And since they’ve changed so much of the books in the show already, it feels like a move they might do at this point.

How do you feel there's not enough drama, for me it was too much. I would have liked more romantic moments with just Polin, a few flashbacks, a few moments where they write, where Coling slowly realises his feelings. No one cares about Cresida, Why are you torturing us? :( also the "sexy" Colin with all these women was totally unnesesery... it feels wrong.

Eloise was never a good friend to Penelope from season one where she bullied daphne for wanting life in society and did not listen to pen or any of her warmings so when pen did qhat she did Eloise was like oh how could you do this to me because you didn't listen
I loved the episodes so far! I still love Queen Charlotte the most but this season is my fav so far! 😂 I just love Nicola as Penelope! Colin is def cringe and looks/acts so strange to me. 😅 I do like that Cressida is getting actual character growth in the show vs her being a one-note mean girl in the books.
