    Keep an eye out on Friday for the promised video to tell you where to send your photos or videos for the Summer Showcase. I’ll also put out a post with the details this weekend.

    Thanks Valerie! You are the absolute best at short, sweet, and to the point gardening tips. Your brief video leaves us plenty of time to get out and actually do the garden cleanup and restoration. All the best from Virginia

    Good reminder. I’m slowly cleaning up my garden and planted carrots, kale, swiss chard and collard greens. They are now sprouting. Videos like this really help to do things outside. Most of the time I’m late in planting fall crops because I want to save the summer crops until it gets cold. Wrong. Hehe

      I’m glad to hear it was helpful, and I enjoyed hearing what you’re taking on in the garden right now. You’re right, it’s hard to let go of our summer crops and move on!

    This is me! The heat won the battle and I have an abundance of clean up to do now. 😅

      It’s so hard down South where you are to keep a summer garden going and keep yourself going during the summer! I think you’ve hit some record temps this year too? Hopefully, fall will cool down and get us all outside again!

    My "Owl Da" now 80, bought a cheap walk in poly tunnel late this year, him and his buddy have had a "competitive" interest in growing tomatoes for around 2 years (my late mother had soil under her fingernails), I shared one of your vids with him last year, I've not seen him so invogorated since her passing, blessings from Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

      Hi Jimbo. Your comment made my week. I’m so happy to hear he’s finding new energy and purpose through gardening, and if my video helped, then it’s an honor. Your mom sounds like my MawMaw (grandmother). My dad brags that she had such a green thumb she could just throw down seeds anywhere and they would grow. Thanks again for sharing your comment. I’d love to see a photo of your dad’s tomatoes or garden for the upcoming summer garden showcase if he’d like to share something 😊 Val

    Thanks for the reminder for the changing of the seasons and what to focus on. Each year, I let the Oak Leaves, that fall from the tree that hovers over my back yard, just stay in the troughs as a guard against the soil loosing nutrients through drain holes in my containers. I have started testing my soil in the spring, to know what to add for amendments. When I shut down in the fall I will add the egg shells and other things I have saved and crushed up in the freezer for compost. (My kids will be glad to be rid of it all, as it slides out of the freezer every time they move something in there lol.)

      I love the oak leaves idea. So smart! I have an oak tree near my garden but not close enough to do anything helpful lol For the frozen things for composting, do you still blend them? I remember you were testing making compost that way for a while.

      @@NowGardening Yep, I use the "messy blender" for it lol.

    I just got some of my brassicas and some lettuce started this past weekend. But I definitely still need to clean up! This summer has been absolute torture to be outside in Texas. Right around the 3rd hottest summer on record for DFW. With 46 day at 105+! Looks like even September is gonna start out a whole week of triple digit heat. 🥵

      I’ve heard y’all had a rough one to say the least. My daughter sent a video celebrating the temps dropping to under 100 where she lives. Hopefully, cooler days are ahead for you my friend. I have to say the last couple of weeks when it hit over 100 here, I hid out like a bat in a cave and didn’t get out to the garden until 8pm each evening!

    Just started watching this. Wondering what zone area you're in? I'm in Sothern California (zone 10b I think) and here it seems like summer is just getting started! It kind of seems to get pushed back just a little bit each year.

    • @NowGardening
      @NowGardening  Před 11 měsíci +1

      I’m in Southern France and we’re a Zone 8 microclimate. It seems like we’re are most similar to the Pacific Northwest with the exception that we don’t get snow. Tell me about your 10b, I’m guessing it’s too hot and dry in the true summer to grow much?

    • @syntehtix
      @syntehtix Před 10 měsíci +1

      Can get pretty hot but putting up some shade cloth and staying on top of watering with auto-irrigation makes it possible to grow whatever's in season. Although I tend to be outside much less when it really peaks.@@NowGardening

      Thanks for sharing how you manage. Those are smart options. My dad lives in Zone 10a (I think that's right) near Pensacola. Adding a shade cloth has been a game changer for him this year. But like you, it just gets too hot at some point to be outside very long. @@syntehtix
