Winter Gardening : A Story of Struggles & Successes

Winter gardening is full a struggles & success, wins & losses. Today I'm sharing a video I made during a dark time 2 years ago in the heart of winter after breaking my shoulder. I was trying to stay positive and focus on the beauty around me, but don't be fooled by the smiles--the struggle was real. Here's a look at winter in southern France & my personal struggles. So beautifully said. I would suspect you're a songwriter even if I'd never heard you sing 💚 Do you still practice your creative side or reserve producing for growing things now?

@@NowGardening I used to write songs a lot when I was younger. I was never without paper and pen, keyboard or guitar. Poetry is my main thing, but ironically, this adult life, though more illuminative, has found me with less time to write. Physical things have led me to give away my guitar to someone who uses it more often, and I play the upright piano in my apartment that the landlord couldn't figure out a way to get rid of when I moved in. It's got some wonky keys, but it's a charming addition to the place. 😊 I will randomly sing a few things here and there, but never buckle down to actually compose a full song or lyric like back in the day. Thanks for asking though. That creative youngster is still in here somewhere... Just have to clear my head of the noise to listen lol. Besides, my oldest son is a drummer and my youngest son is an artist. They have taken the reigns ❤️

I love that you have a piano in your place. Seems like it was meant to be there for you :) I go through spells of writing in life, but I'm with you that most of the time life is so busy that it's hard to find the mental space. I'm glad your sons have taken the reigns. We need more creative spirits in the world.@@BrokenGardening

Thanks for the heartfelt reflections..
We have a similar light where I live, especially noticable in nature,there seems to be a bronze/golden hew to the colours giving a dreamlike landscape...take care of the tomatoes!.. Matt 🙂

Hi, did you revisit the fish head burying experiments?

Thanks for the reminder. I need to tally up the numbers, but the fish-head raised beds outperformed everything else. I had so many tomatoes! One exception might be a raised bed where tomatoes were companion planted with a garlic crop where I used bone meal & potash. I need to check the numbers, but those 2 plants produced loads of tomatoes too. I'll expand that style of fertilizing to more tomato plants this year to verify the results compared to the fish-heads alone.
