  • Dry Pailing is a method of storing wet or soiled nappies until you're ready to wash them. In this video, Amy explains the difference between wet pailing (soaking) and dry pailing and shows you the setup that works for her family at home.

    Thank you so much. Really helpful. Just started using cloth nappies and exactly what we needed to hear. 👍

    hello, thanks for your video. Do you find there is enough airflow with your curver pail?

      Sorry stardips, I only just got a notification on this channel. Yes, there is plenty of air flow. You can even use an open bucket- obviously the airy pails are ideal, but I've used a laundry basket for over 5 years now and it works really well :)

    Hi there, I'm planning to use terry cloth towelling flat nappies, do I still have to do 2 washes after using the Sard Soap? Thanks

      Hi, yes definitely do two washes, the first is to remove excess soiling and the second is so they are thoroughly cleaned. You can find more wash instructions on our website here :) www.clothnappyhelp.com.au/washing-101.html

    I have a silver trash can with a black insert and only has one area for air flow. Will that be ok to store my dirty diapers? I live in Japan right now and it gets humid some days.

      Hey Edna, if you're washing them regularly (eg every 2nd day) this shouldn't be a problem :)

      @@clothnappyhireaustralia8515 no I wash like every 4 days.

      @@EdnaBlossoms310 You can try prewashing your nappies each day, I wouldn't leave them 4 days without some kind of rinse out. The longer you leave your nappies the most prone they are to degradation, so if you can wash them frequently they will have a nice long life.

      Hi - this is great but I still have some confusion around when to dry pail - I know it is done before the main wash but if you pre wash a day's worth of nappies each day to prevent smell and stains, do they go back in the dry pail until you have enough nappies for the main load (another 1-2 days)?

    • @EdnaBlossoms310
      @EdnaBlossoms310 Před 2 lety

      @@cassandrabyrne8734 That sounds like more work, you still need to make sure you load your washer properly so that they wash well, if your washer is not loaded enough the nappies wont wash well.

    What about soakIng them just in water, no soaps/bleaches? Also do you have a video on washing the nappies as a lot of ppl suggest 2 washes. Is this really necessary?

    • @clothnappyhireaustralia8515
      @clothnappyhireaustralia8515  Před 4 lety +1

      Hey Kate, this is not a good idea with modern cloth nappies as the materials are far more fragile than terry towelling flats. Bamboo, for example, is easily degraded by bacteria and when you soak in water you just spread bacteria through all of your inserts instead just where the soiled part is. Elastic and the waterproof outers will degrade if you soak them, the waterproof outers in particular are glued together so are really not designed for soaking. Yes, there's wash routine videos on my channel- I hope you find them helpful! 2 washes is necessary, you need to remove the excess soiling from the nappies so that you can do the long wash in clean water. So no soak required, let your machine do the work!
