  • VDNKh is a Moscow park famous for outdoor and indoor attractions. It was built to represent the countries part of the Soviet Union and exhibit their achievements, and now it's a great place to enjoy both winter and summer in Moscow, Russia. (2018 vlog)
    VDNKh (or VDNH) is among the best places to visit in Moscow, although few foreigners know about it. It's worth seeing the gardens, the fountains (if they're turned on!), the Space Pavilion, the Cosmonautics museum and for kids, the aquarium (Moskvarium).
    In this vlog, after VDNKh we also visit Ostankino Tower and hotel Ukraina, one of the Seven Sisters.

      Please don't give up on Ostankino TV tower!I once tried to visit and had some problems with ID check,security etc. I gave up then and still regret it.Hope one day I'll visit(I'm local btw).All you have to do is pick the right time and right weather.I recommend evening for the best view .You can buy tickets through the website.Also there is a spinning floor restaurant in the tower-totally a must-see experience.Too bad it needs booking though.There's also an interactive multimedia complex and a souvenir shop.

    Hello, dear Renata!
    Maybe you will be surprised to discover that Russians never say “na zdorovie” before drinking a glass of vodka. “Na zdorovie” means “let it be good for your health”, and it cannot be used any time you want to use it, but in a few certain situation:
    1. The main case when this phrase can be used is when your guests are at your place and they ate something that you cooked for them and said “Thank you” to you. In response you say “Na zdorovie”. Actually it means the same as "you are welcome"(in answer to a thanks for food or refreshments).
    2. "To your heart's content" . "Кушайте на здоровье".- Eat to your heart's content! ( Eat for it were good for your health).
    3."Do as you want at your own risk" (sarcasticly). You want to jump off the roof? -Na zdorovie! (Go ahead! Do as you want!).
    The similar but correct phrase when sharing a drink or proposing a toast in Russian is "За здоро́вье!"(Za zdorovie) with "za" rather than "na." The difference in prepositions makes the difference between the phrase meaning, "To your health!" (za) and "For your health," (na). "Cheers!"
    I hope this will be helpful :)

      All of that is completely correct with one minor correction, though. ‘Za zdorovye’, although grammatically correct, is not something people would normally toast to either. Instead, when there’s a need for a generic toast, people use nonsensical one-liners: “Budyem” (let us be), “Vzdrognem” (let’s shake it up / keep it popping), “Poekhali” (let’s go), etc. The closest equivalent to the “zdorovye” (health) toast would be, “Budyem zdorovy” (let us be healthy). All of those toasts are normally preceded by “Nu” (“well”/“so”) :D

    "Na zdorovje" is a kind of answers if someone says "spasibo" ("thank you"). An another option to answer is "pozhaluysta". People use "na zdorovje" as "cheers" only in stupid American movies. Russian people NEVER say like this! They can use the phrase "vashe zdorovje" or "za [your or somebody's] zdorovje" as "cheers" if they drink something. "Vashe zdorovje" is equal to "I wish you to stay healthy"

    • @Setras
      @Setras Před 5 lety +11

      The "cheers" sounds "za zdorovie" not "na zdorovie". Means "for good health" like in "i wish we have/get/maintain the good health". "Na zdorovie", instead, means "have this and get a good health", like the food you get will make you feel better, unlike the "cheer" one, where they only wish to have/get a good health, but the alcohol itself or the drinking process does not give the good health.

    My grandmother (and many old people in the 70s and 80s) to thank for the meal (Thanks), always answered Kushay na zdorovye (Eat for health). It was about eating. This means that the wish that the food you eat is good for you. This is a very ancient wish. In the old days there were no refrigerators and that to save food people had to put a lot of effort. For this reason, not always the food was edible or useful. Therefore, they wished for health at the time, they say, the main thing is that there should be no harm from eating.
    By the way, when a person sneezes in Russia, they also want health. They say "Be healthy". On the wish of health in this case it is necessary to say "Thank you".

    • @RenataPereiraTV
      @RenataPereiraTV  Před 5 lety +2

      Loved to hear the background on "na zdorovye", thank you very much! So I'd also say "na zdorovye" when someone sneezes? That's so interesting, as, in Portuguese, my native language, it's also like this. We use the same word when we want to say "cheers" and when someone sneezes, both meaning "health".

    ... at the far end of VDNH there is (was?) a "secret" gate that leads to the magnificent Botanical Garden.
    The Tsytsin Main Moscow Botanical Garden of Academy of Sciences was founded in April 1945, and claims itself to be the largest botanical garden in Europe.[1] It covers a territory of approximately 3.61 km², bordering the VDNKH Exhibition Center, and contains a live exhibition of more than twenty thousand different species of plants coming from various parts of the world. The garden also has a scientific research laboratory and contains a rosarium with twenty thousand rose bushes, a dendrarium (arboretum), an oak forest with the average age of the trees exceeding 100 years, a Japanese garden and a greenhouse of more than 5000 square meters.

    "Na zdorovie" is not "cheers" at all, it's a worldwide mistake. It is more like traditional form of "you are welcome" after doing something good for someone but translated like "wish it would be good for your health". But if it's toasting people usually say "za vashe zdorovie" that means something like wishing "let your health be good".

So probably same goes for slovak and polish speakers, and those spreading around the world Im sure thats how some confusion and assumption took place
