In this video I share what I've figured out and my understanding on how docking in Lightburn works. I also show how and when to use it. I'm sure there are things I may not explain accurately, but this is my understanding as of the time of this video. I've found it to be very helpful when creating designs in Lightburn. Hopefully this video is informative and you will be able to benefit from what I put together for you.

I stared the docking buttons on the menu for weeks before researching and figuring them out. Now I wish I hadn't waited so long.
I learnt rather a lot there that has helped me unbelievably Cheers Steve as always
Good to hear
Thanks Steve. I feel like I'm back in college🤣. That's some crazy stuff but I learn so much, with every video. I need some understanding of the Boolean tool.
I'm going to be doing a video this week showing how I use Boolean tool to design. Stay tuned and thanks for watching.

I apologize for the comment I made last night, I deleted it. I was very vague on the video I was talking about. January 7th 2021 . I will keep on watching your videos. You explain things much better than other laser video's out there. These types of videos should make you smile and learn a couple things and you do that. Thank you!
I would like to see them add a padding for the distribute function, that would give us the ability to do what were looking for. Great videos by the way and thanks, Bob
What I'd like to see is the ability to use the docking tools when designing off the workbed. If you have found out, unless your objects are on the workbed, the docking functions will not work.
Steve, Again thanks. Had seen the icons but no idea what they did. Could have used in the project I was designing before watching your video. Next time for sure will use.
Very welcome. Glad I could help.
good stuff, I learned a lot. Thanks for posting.
Thanks for watching.
Good Info Thank You
You're welcome
Thank you for the explanation. I did have that selected never used it. I was unclear why I would use it. Now that you have explained it and shown how it is used, I will be putting Docking into the works.
Glad it was helpful!
Man. You and Rich are the LB heroes love your vids. I find myself doing the most of my drawings in lb then exporting them to dxf if i need to use estlcam or vectric if i need to use the cnc. (After the last version update im having issues exporting to dxf with lb. Drawings are not ok, also LB need a better nesting tool i have to export things to nest with aspire *its way better* )
I agree that LB needs a true nesting tool. The current nesting is not actually part of LB. (You may be aware of that.) It's a third-party program that shakes hands with LB. But very poorly. I did a deep dive on it, too. If you search my videos, you may find it helpful. There are some unusual things you need to do to get it to work. The biggest conflict is that the third-party program gets confused by the workbed in LB. If it's included in the .svg you import, it treats the workbed like an object that needs to be nested. Even when you get the right images into the nesting tool, it's still randomly successful. They really need to build in a true nesting tool within the program. Party on dude!
Amazing video. Thks
Glad you liked it! Please subscribe if you haven't already.
Thanks Steve - A BIG takeaway for me was how to dock on the inside of a shape - bugged the heck out of me that the docking tool itself didn't do this, and I had never discovered that function of the alignment tool you pointed out.
One thing I use the padding feature for all the time is to help use materials more efficiently, especially with odd shapes. I rotate them all around and then dock to 1 or 2mm separation before cutting.
Your talking about using the padding feature to nest your shapes. That is smart. That is one thing Lightburn could definitely improve on. Their third party nesting tool only works some of the time and it's a bit cumbersome. I may try using your technique myself. Great idea.
Great Stuff!
Good info.
Thank you.
Steve, Just came across a tool that hadn't paid any attention too previously. The "Two-Point Rotation / Scale" found under the Arrange menu. Was wanting to make an Isosceles Trapezoid with specific measurements and couldn't think of an easy way to do it. The rotation tool allowed me to make complete this. Could be another way but I just couldn't of it. Maybe a subject for a video. Unless it has already been covered. Thanks,
Brilliant Thankyou
Always a pleasure. I hope the link I shared the other day about kerf was helpful, too.
@@HoboWithWood yes it was and i really appreciated it thank you
Thanks, that is good to know.
Glad to help. Just remember. Docking ONLY works with items within the work area. I design of the workgrid a lot. I wish it would work there, too. But it doesn't. But it is a awesome feature. I use it constantly.
Very good
Thanks
