- This is a retrospective of the 1989 Toronto Blue Jays. It covers their entire season up until the playoffs where they lost to the Oakland Athletics in the ALCS. 1989 was also the year they moved from the old Exhibition Stadium to the Skydome and it has a nice piece about this move in here. I have only ever seen this video in snippets and I was elated to find the complete video in a thrift shop and decided to upload it in its entirety. Enjoy!

Something so pure and beautiful about those days. I was a real tiny kid, I barely remember the Jays at the CNE, but the SkyDome I will always remember.
The crowds were fun, everyone got along, just amazing
Amazing how these players are so down to earth, nice, humble and if they have ego (like most athletes do), they don't show it and never seem condescending.
Today's athletes are spoiled clowns that get paid tens of millions for potential, not actual performance.
RIP Old school Toronto and sports.
I was at the Boston game where they came from from 10-0 to win 13-11. A few years later when I moved into my first apartment, I was intrigued to learn that the suite number was also 1311.
I still say today even in 2022 Skydome is a beautiful landmark and state of the art construction

I worked at the SkyDome for 5 years back in the 90s. Before security cameras and swipe cards, any regular person in the hotel could've taken the service elevator onto the field

Even as an O's fan, you have to tip your cap to this Blue Jay team. Most teams after firing the manager early in the season would roll over. Not here. Cito Gaston not only exceeded expectations but he eventually became the greatest manager in franchise history. The funny part about that pennant race was that the O's and Jays did the same thing almost every single day from mid-August on. One day they both won, one day both lost. It always seemed like they were tied or Toronto was one game up. Those three games, any one of those three could have gone either way. But the Orioles "Why Not?" had to end at some point, and I'd rather have it end against a team as well respected at that time as the Blue Jays with the passionate fans they have. (Although the O's got their revenge the next year by knocking the Jays out on the last day even if they were already eliminated)
VHS Resurrection, I wish that you had Blue Jays - The First Decade: Mission Impossible (1986). I've had many, many great baseball VHS tapes and that one is the best one.

Tell me you have so many more of these! I’ve been looking for all these Jays “season review” tapes from the late 80’s early 90’s. Ironically I have this Sky High one, but 90 and 91 would be SO appreciated!!
TJSoups I don’t but I’m always keeping my eyes open for any jays related stuff. I have the 1993 World Series tape but because it’s still sealed, I’m reluctant to open it. I’m going to see if I can find them this week.
The VHS Resurrection Channel is that the MLB World Series tape or the jays 93 tape? I THINK both are on here, tho I’ve got both so I’ve never really paid close attention to who has uploaded what as far as those tapes go. Anyway, keep up the great work!!

I was at that earthquake. The real quake happened in my trousers. I just lost control.
The year that started it all. If it wasn't for '89 they never would have developed into the team of '92 and '93.
Here's an interesting stat, if the Jays won the AL East in 1987 (and they came very close) they would've won the East every other year from '85 to '91
Not to mention 1993 too....
Wasn't '87 the year the Jays had the second best record in baseball but didn't win the East because Detroit finished ahead of them?
@@superx9619 Detroit had 98 wins, Toronto had 96. George Bell led the AL in RBIs, Jimmy Key was 1st in ERA and Tom Henke had the most saves. Have no idea WTF happened.

I don’t know why they would sell the seats right in front of the outfield fence at Exhibition.
The North Grandstand (General Admission) seats at Exhibition Stadium actually were very good. As long as you got to Gate 6 early, you could claim great seats between Sections 34 and 37.
My favorite spot was in Section 35, on the aisle, and parallel to the runway. There was a roof that covered you from the sun and the rain. The closer you got to the left field foul line, while staying in fair territory, the better!
Once you got to the Batters Eye Screen around Section 40, then it became problematic. Luckily, I was always there early enough to claim good seats!
49:37 toronto's consolation is that they have fallen to the team that went on to win the world series
And actually gave much better fight than the Giants did in the WS. Jays were heavy underdogs going in but managed to take a game and keep most of the games relatively close.
