In fact at that point in their life I think it would be incredibly difficult for a baby to lose more than 1-4 pounds without having to be hospitalized. But I believe it was an older child, since she said the baby weighed about 30 pounds. So, a weight loss of 2 pounds or so won't be too dangerous. But if some parents will actuallly do that for fame, I feel sorry for their kids...
I used to box for many years myself and I can tell you that excessive weight cutting especially when done on a regular basis is bad for you. It reaks havoc on both the immune systems and your endocrine systems . I'm not disagreeing it can't be done for an adult (in the case of this skit 10 pounds for a baby would be impossible) but it is bad for you.
The consolation in this is that child actors/models need to have their parents on set to ok things as they go. So they will probably just say it's ok, and when it comes to the shoot they will make a more informed decision given that it is their legal right to do so. However, that baby weight loss thing is insane.
Tbf, I think the parents had the mindset of 'say yes to everything and figure it out later', much like regular actors at audition. I dont think they would intentionally let their baby come to harm. Regardless, the fact they even theoretically agreed with any of these ideas shows such a warped sense of priorities.
